Just speculation, but he could be going against what his parents think the best decision is. Simply put, his parents like Notre Dame and what it would provide for their sons future. It may be likely that Hood cannot see past a female he believes he could have a future with, but his parents think otherwise. They know that it is not likely that a relationship started in high school will spring into a lifelong romance, and thus future decisions should not be based on this. Like I said, just speculation, but would partially explain why the parents are out of the loop.
Hood has been all over the place... here is a chronological:
Start of recruiting until Mediwest tour in late February: ND is leader/where he thinks he wants to go.
2/26 after completing Midwest swing: "Said that basically he is still considering UNC but will almost surely go to ND, Mich, or OSU... and that while Mich and Ohio might have narrowed the lead ND had that he considers it narrowed "only because ND had such a big lead to begin with.""
3/10: Visits North Carolina, they vault to being #2. Says he wants to slow things down. This is where negative recruiting in earnest starts about distance.
3/10 - 3/22: Not going to make it to Notre Dame spring game as planned, UNC #1, quotes about his parents wanting him to stay close to home and the pressure of doing so, says it will make him happy to stay close to home for them so they can make it to games. Parents have a great relationship with UNC staff, he wanted to commit to ND but parents told him to hold off, will decide in summer. He also says to some reporters that he is going to eliminate all schools that aren't nearby... including ND.Shortly after that, Loy... while still working for the UNC site and Sapp for ND... says Hood wants ND but parents don't, and that Hood still names ND the leader. He gone? He stay? Sets up a visit with parents for April, and Whiskey and I do a massive thread cleanup of posts that could be offensive to his parents.
4/26-4/28: Visit to ND with parents.
4/28: Commits... where he always wanted to go and got parent approval. Emphatic that distance might "suck" but this is where he wants to be, is shutting down recruiting, will only visit ND, and is super excited. From this point forward he is a HUGE recruiter for ND for Nelson, etc. and is all-in for the Irish all the time on social media. Also apparently breaks up with girlfriend right after commitment? Maybe something to do with distance... who knows.
5/13: UNC stops by his school and says they will still recruit him hard.
6/4: #RollToilet... also tweets about ND grad rates, etc. and why ND is awesome.
7/11: Talks about trying to EE at ND.
8/2: Miami offers and Hood tells them to spend their time elsewhere as he is fully committed.
8/11: Deletes all social media and goes dark.
8/20 Decommit. Distance.
So between 8/2 and 8/11 everything went to hell in a hurry. Strikes me as either: 1) Girl. 2) ND admin. Those are the two quantities in life that are always an unpredictable kick in the nuts. I'd guess #1.

If she doesn't want to date a potential ND star, I say f*** her.
That's probably what got Elijah into this mess.
Oh well. If he doesn't want to play for ND then he can kick rocks and play for shitsy UNC. On to the next one. Done stressing over recruiting.
Elijah Hood decommits from Notre Dame
States that distance from home is a major factor of this decommitment.
Also, IIRC, his gf dumped him or something like that very soon after his commitment to ND. So... there's that.
Teenagers are fickle.
Is he really an option?Tom Loy now puts Nathan Starks to ND in his Crystal Ball.
Tom Loy now puts Nathan Starks to ND in his Crystal Ball.
It happens.
My simple question is this... How is it that UNC still have a football program after everything that they did under Butch DAVIS?
Anyways... Take the time to reflect young Elijah and find the right answer for you, that you should.
Women can wait is all I can advise.
Everyone who knows anything says Starks is a non-take.
I hope they're wrong.
