Downloading Music - Alternative to Itunes?

I'm looking for a program that I can download (not stream) music on.

I'd rather not pay $.99-$2 for every song, and I've heard that there's programs that you can pay one-time fees for, and download unlimited songs from then on.

I travel for work, and I need to be able to listen to songs I download without an internet connection.

Any advice is appreciated!

I use Xbox music with my Windows Phone and Zune HD.

I've always liked it. (Used to be Zune Pass). Used to be $15/mo with 10 "free" songs a month and unlimited downloading and streaming otherwise. I think they phased that deal out though...

Yeah I have a Zune.

Haha, well if you want to do this legally... Spotify and Rdio are good options as well. They have different limits on offline storage (I think Rdio doesn't have any). Probably something like $10/mo.

I guess I got scared straight back in college..

I use to have a Zune too, and did the same thing. But when I wen't away from it, it wouldn't let me keep the songs I had accumulated from the free ones on another player. They were locked to only use on a Zune. Well, unless I didn't know what I was doing, which is likely.

YouTube to MP3 Converter: Free Windows App

You copy and paste youtube links into it and it converts the audio into mp3 format. I've used it for a couple of years and it's great. No worries about viruses, etc.

this works very well for anything on youtube, i use this myself and would recommend it highly.

The torrent client suggestions are good too, I know some ppl that use uTorrent client.

Haha, well if you want to do this legally...

this is the key phrase in this entire thread.

Those youtube rips are terrible quality though. Spotify is probably the best option. I listen to most of my music on Spotify for free and then torrent stuff I want to take with me.

I would never do this, but if you want to download for free and convert to itunes, you could use mp3skull.com.

Why not put your music collection in the cloud?

Because I don't want to rely on the internet to listen. If I'm in the car, I want to have it downloaded already.

No, but you can load up your ipod for your trip and then once you get there you can download different stuff if you want.

Download this software:

YouTube to MP3 Converter: Free Windows App

You copy and paste youtube links into it and it converts the audio into mp3 format. I've used it for a couple of years and it's great. No worries about viruses, etc.

This. I can't believe more people don't know about this. You don't even have to download software. You can simply go to a site that converts it for you and allows to download.

Man, a few years ago I could litterally find you just about any album you wanted and have it downloaded with 5 minutes in its entirety just by using the google bar.. those were the PRE sopa days.

Now that that well has dried up. It's not nearly as easy as it once was.

But I used to simply go to google and type " site:(file hosting website) and then artist or song title" and results would show up directly as search pages.

Mediafire.com used to be a gold mine but that is all but dried up.

Which sites you may have success searching through google: zippyshare.com (was very good but starting to dry up.)
And sharebeast.com (the latest file hosting site I've come across, have had the most success with this one as of late in regards to searching through google)

So for example>> go to google
>> type in into the search bar " site:sharebeast.com kanye west
>>and boom links from the site for music by ye.
>>if you're looking for an entire album or something specific just add the album or specific song title your looking for.

That all being said, like anything else be carful and use caution when downloading, if you don't feel 100 percent on the link or it looks shady. Don't bother with it, I've never had any sort of issue with this method but I wouldn't advise going and downloading anything and everything that shows up in the search, be cautious of things such as file size in relation to what you are downloading, title of the file, etc.

A decent little site is I also use is hasitleaked.com which posts upcoming albums and newly released albums, the site relays when and often where an album leaks, and where it can be found with a little bit of a Internet scavenger hunt, they don't provide direct links, but provide where a given album can be found with a little search.

Spotify. You can download entire playlists/albums to make them available offline.

Best $10 I spend every month.

I also highly recommend Freemake Video Converter. Free utility that easily converts between video formats and can do the youtube deal. They could easily charge $30 for this utility.

Only if the MP3 embedded into the youtube is poor. A lot of the time it is the same MP3 from the CD and awesome quality. I have a ton of songs I pulled from youtubes and almost all of them are perfect. If it's poor quality in the youtube clip, then it will be poor quality as a download. You just have to listen to it first before pulling the mp3 from the clip.

The coolest thing about pulling from youtube is that you can get rare clips, concerts and covers that you normally can't find.
