So you need to be told to keep your "disappointment" to a minimum on a public Internet forum that is consistently perused by recruits' families and current players families?

I and anyone else on IE, obviously didn't need to be told anything.

No one's said anything bad about this recruit or his commitment.

So why RhodIrish even brought it up was beyond me, but if he going to make a claim and state it as fact (i.e., 'it's never OK to show disappointment in someone committing'), and it's wrong or at the very least too ambiguous to know what is being said, yeah, I'll ask for clarification or state why I think it's wrong, which IMO it is in this instance.

People need to be called out when they make crazy statements. Opinions? Fire away, but don't play it like it's an absolute.

Moving on.

I don't think he'll get a 4th star based on watching his film. And this has nothing to do with stars; I think Bobby Okereke, fellow 3-star, is a stud.

Bonner plays both ways, he never leaves the field. Not a bad TE prospect. Poor film, but comparisons to Josh Dawson, Se'von Pittman and Tyriq McCord may not be exaggerations.

I don't think he was offered based on the film. The ND coaches were impressed by the way he dominated at the camp. I will take the first hand observations of Diaco and Kelly ahead of your intense scouting of the film from last season.

You can always admit you were wrong when that 4th star drops.

So you think he'll get a 4th star because the ND coaches saw him, first hand, in camp?

I'll gladly admit I was wrong when he gets his 4th star, but I don't see it happening.

He's a low 3 star, currently. 247 = 83, 247 composite = 83, rivals = 5.6.

Are you truly confused? He kicked a$$ against our 4 and 5 star recruits in front of the coaches and they forget more about football every day than you are ever going to know. Just remember to acknowledge your ignorance when the 4th star drops.

Stop pissing on the young man's thread. This 3 star v. 4 star banter is resulting in some really poor posts.

Yes, some guy who has never watched him picked 3 stars out of a hat...but wait, you previously said you were not basing your opinions on the stars. Hmmm

Please follow premise.

YOU: You said he will get his 4th star.

ME: I said I doubt it based on watching his film.

YOU: Then you said 'our coaches saw him in person'.

OK???? You do know that Brian Kelly doesn't attach stars to players, right? Lol.

There are guys that aren't heavily recruited or highly regarded by scouting services that end up being great players and guys that are highly decorated high school players that don't amount to much. Yes, more highly rated players turn out to be good, but there are enough exceptions that I think its dumb to write off a guy because they come in without a ton of stars next to their name. I know that deferring to the coaches can be seen as a cop out to like every player that your team recruits, and I'm certainly aware that not every player we recruit will become a star. But expressing disappointment over a commit is not only a bad look and surely disheartening for the kid, but also done without the proper basis to form an opinion.

I agree with everything you said until the last sentence.

When film is the only thing us mere mortals get to see, it's absolutely fine to form an opinion based on that. And it's exactly that and nothing more, it's just a person's opinion based on what they see.

Of course, the coaches know more, have seen more, etc. But we're not the coaches and we're not fortunate enough to have access to all recruiting tools.

Nothing wrong with having opinions on recruits, film, camp clips, etc.

I actually saw a talented pass rusher with incredible discipline for a high school player. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps rising and gets the 4th star.

You maybe right, but he's very far from it on 247 and rivals. I'm not the one who brought up stars, so I couldn't care less, but just saying he has a long way to climb (83 on 247, 5.6 on rivals).

I disagree. You don't know anything about football or recruiting. You are not even entitled to an opinion because you know so little. (Not just you, but everyone here and on every other college football board.) So you (or anyone else) expressing disappointment with a commitment is just an ******* with an arbitrary opinion.

You don't have to be excited, but it really isn't your place to have an opinion. It is the coaches' job to bring players to the school and your job to root for them once they get here.

It's a message board, what else are people going to do? I'm not one to criticize recruits personally, and I don't like it when people do it, but people can look at film and express doubt. Happens all the time, not just on this thread.

Our coaches aren't perfect and while I LOVE this staff, they have made mistakes. When Ty Golfingham was recruiting 2 and 3 star recruits, fans had a right to question it on message boards. When CW was chasing stars and getting players that didnt necessarily love football, people had a right to question what they saw on film. And when BK recruits a guy like David Perkins, who people here in town KNEW wouldnt pan out at ND, its fine for them to write their opinion on line.

And believe it or not, there are people on this site and others who are pretty dang good at evaluating film, and I enjoy their thoughts, good or bad.

Again, I don't like it when people rip recruits, but this is a message board, and if someone doesn't like a kid's film, he should be allowed to express his opinion as long as he doesn't go over-the-top or start attacking the kid. I think your post, while coming from a good place, goes way over-the-top in restricting people's right to offer opinions on message boards...

Yea I agree.. He won't get it based on his film because I'm sure sites are past evaluating it but if he continues to camp it's def a possibility. He apparently went toe to toe and beyond with our own 5* Nelson and 4* Bars.

But now we're getting into the whole transitive inference thing lol.. Which is actually how a lot of opinions are formed around here.

Either way, when I compile what I liked from his film, the fact that he dominated at camp and that the staff trusts his potential.. I'm all smiles.

edit: Plus he's a life long fan with a 3.8 gpa.

That, plus since he's committed, there's not much incentive in bumping his rankings.

Like I said, I didn't see great athleticism or strength, but that film was a year ago and what he did at the camp obviously earned him his offer so good for him.

Back in my days ('03-'06) kids from the Parkway schools were known to be tough. We had crossed them in camps, other sports, summer programs, and they were just brought up in a different manner. They didn't always play the best ball but they played hard in everything they did. From 7 on 7 to weightlifting tourneys to wrestling, these guys fought. On top of that, a good group of people. Have made several friends since HS with Parkway kids because of the experience in competition against them.

If they still raise them like they did back then (not that long ago) then we just picked up a big skill guy that will grind everyday and be someone that can represent us on and off the field. Will he be the next best thing to play for ND? No clue! If he is what Parkway always represented in my eyes, he will be a damn good teammate regardless of how he ends his college career. Worst case scenario, IMO, is he is good enough to earn mop up time and coaches rave about his work ethic. But what do I know. This is just a hunch. Good pick up if my opinion mattered.

Are u talking all of Parkway or just Central? Cause West and South are weak and North is a bunch of thugs but aren't good. Central is a very strong program though.

All...

Some have better crowds than others but then again, it's your take on the people. To me, ALL of them were a solid set of "tough cookies" that played hard regardless of the sport or competition.

As far as programs, I couldn't tell you where they stand. I meant overall as athletes that played hard for 4 quarters whether they were getting the asses handed to them or not. "Thugs" as you put them to me are from Jennings and inner city schools who aren't even recognized as an institution. Yet still have kids that can be upstanding citizens with great intentions but classified as the rest because of where they are form. Were not on that subject so it doesn't matter, but I think I get your point. ALL of the Parkways were respected when I was around, regardless of "Thug" labels or not.

EDIT: I am from the St. Chuck area and we were considered "Thug" because when we actually won games. we went and broke up the other schools parties by fighting all the other teams. In reality, we were just punks with no direction. Lol

Yeah I was probably a little harsh in North since we had a little rivalry with them the last two years I played.

I was trying to make sure you didn't think I was bothered but it was a doozy! You're good man. You're right in that they are separate in the schools and players but without throwing fully where I came from, they we "ok".

I think you would agree that if STL mended the Parkways, The Zumwalts, the Howells (SP?), the Jeff City schools, the Hazelwoods, the "STL Public League"... and put them in one conference, we would have one hell of a line up! They all cross paths but its so broad that people are left hanging on 2-10 teams that they just can't show out. Desmet was always on our schedule with Munir and Paddy but I always thought they were over rated. Yet they had tons of 3 star talent to dominate. (Tons of respect to both those guys BTW) but they were Mizzou material not ND. Yet, we had Weis.

Food for thought: at this time a year ago, Ezekiel Elliot was a mid 3:s: on 247 and other services. Missouri might just be laughably under-scouted. STL sent me film of a dude a couple months ago and his ratings != the film on any level... like it was a joke where he was rated at for the plays he was making/his measureables.

Yeah but Alabama offers (not committable) another low 3:s: OL from St. Louis and instantly he becomes a 90 Rating 4:s: . Raymond (the kid i sent u) visits Bama and what do ya know? He's now a 90 Rating 4:s: too :rotflmao:

It's hilarious how arbitrary some recruits' rankings are.

I WANT to use != in my posts, but then I get all OCD and refrain on the grounds some people do not know != means not equal. Programmers unite!

Props on your bold usage.
