I have read this statement several times and am astonished every time. You do realize that anybody can be rascist, right? Being a minority doesn't mean that you are exempt from it.

If Zimmerman targeted TM because of his race, then it's not like his latino heritage changes the racism exibited.

I am not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that people are stupid for thinking that Zimmerman is a white man? Are you saying that Zimmerman isn't even white? Or that non-white people cannot be prejudice against African Americans? Or are you just having a laugh that the lines have been so blurred. I agree with most of those points. I also feel bad for the whole of the Zimmerman and Martin family.

I will be honest. In my mind the pussies responsible for this are not being held accountable. I don't care if the homeowners association I belong to has a former City Atty as president. Everybody should know better. These are rules that everyone should abide by; no one with a CCP can patrol armed; and, that no one with a propensity to use their gun can even be on the patrol.

IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THAT YOU DON'T LET DELUSIONAL GUN HAPPY FUTURE FELONS OF AMERICA GO OUT HUNTING FREELY WITH GUNS.

Everyone that was a member of that homeowners association should be charged with negligence.

I am absolutely amazed at what I read on this thread page. Now Zimmerman has a broken nose? And serious injuries? When did that happen? Because it wasn't introduced into evidence.

I think I read somewhere where Zimmerman said he was punched in the face 24 times and then repeatedly had his head bashed into the sidewalk. The injuries depicted in these photos do not match Zimmerman's story. The back of the head, it seems to me, would have sustained far more damage if he head was repeatedly smashed into the cement.

ACamp, I can see why you were confused now, my hypotheticals were not directly in response to what you said, they were more me trying to explain why I had said that GZ having injuries to me is not the most critical part of this case. I was trying to show scenarios where a person could invite confrontation and then possibly forfeit the right to claim self defense. I think the jury could potentially see that here even with injuries.
The final statement about people saying this was only an issue because of the media etc... was not directed at you specifically.

You must admit this whole case is so absurd. I cannot believe how the old lines are being drawn up when non of the actual events or facts follow. I think those with property need to find a new game. i agree. He looks like he fell onto the back of his head and got scratched by a cat from those pictures. TM must have been hitting like a girl.

As long as we are being open minded about it, Zimmerman did shoot a kid who wasn't doing anything wrong. That kinda thing does tend to generate a little outrage -- particularly when the police didn't seem to do anything about it for a month or so. So, the rebuttle to "unfair" reporting is to dig up "unfair" stuff on the other side to counter with? Silly me, I thought that it is either right or wrong. My mistake.

Yes. But if you remember...he was a "white" guy at the very begining. Then you had the big "oops!!" moment and he suddenly became "white-hispanic" (which I've never heard of until this case)

I suppose at the end of the day, it's Zimmerman's story vs a dead guy. Dead guys don't talk. Therefore, case closed.

Had someone seen everything up to the point of thhe shooting? Might be a different case. But I don't see how you can convict him for Murder on the evidence presented.

Keep in mind though that the jury still has to BUY Zimmerman's story. If he gets on the stand and presents muddled testimony that contradicts itself, the jury could conclude that he is lying.

Zimmerman killed a kid. It is his burden to prove that it was in self-defense, not the State's to disprove it. He has to be convincing on the stand or he absolutely could go to jail.

Zimmerman had an opportunity to testify and tell his story. In April, Zimmerman waived his right to a stand your ground pretrial immunity hearing. Both Zimmerman and his attorney want to avoid the witness stand. Too much of an opportunity for prosecution to find out what really happened on that night. Leave this case muddled for the six that have to decide its outcome.

Where did the above picture come from? Because it wasn't taken by the police. It wasn't included with the photos taken by the crime techs.

That being said, this isn't proof of a life threatening situation. There isn't even proof TM did this. And of course the huge gulf in the GZ story is even though this looks like a minor beating, not enough on its own to use deadly force, it would have been enough to leave GZ DNA on TM, if TM did it. And there was none. I can't get over that.

I'm pretty sure that most reasonably intelligent human beings new that Zimmerman wasn't a white guy the first time they saw a photo of him. I knew I did. I'm unaware of this "oops" moment that you are speaking of nor of it's relevence.

Still... what point are you trying to make? Regardless of his race, if he targeted TM because of the color of his skin, then it was an act of racism that is no better than if a white dude did the same thing.

But I hope people realize that people from Mexico and various South American countries who trace (or claim they can trace) their family back to Spain claim they are white... because Spanish people have always been white. So that is the whole Hispanic and white deal.


Edit: I should add that a Spanish guy taught me this. People thought he was Mexican but he was very adamant that he was Spanish and white.

This is all true. Hispanic isn't a race. It just means you come from a Spanish-speaking country. Spanish people are "white," i.e. Caucasian. But it was very common for Spanish colonists (unlike most European colonists) to intermarry with the indigenous population, and the majority of the people we now think of in this country as "Hispanic" have both European and Native American ancestry.

But, as SoCal pointed out, plenty of people from South American countries are totally "white," i.e., of entirely European ancestry. Or if they aren't, you can't tell the difference. I went to school with apparently "white" people from Nicaragua, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru and Argentina (although Argentina is kind of an exception in that there wasn't much intermarriage there). So it gets pretty tricky when you talk about the "race" of Hispanic people.
