Is the idea behind the rule change to fatigue the wrestlers (three minutes, instead of two), and thus perhaps break some form and cause more action?

The old format was essentially a best of 3 - 2 minute matches. The best thing about this is that you get rid of ridiculous rules like the ball grab and somehow rewarding a winner when the score was actually tied.

World Team Trials start today (good luck to Buster's cousin). Looking forward to the sick 74KG bracket.

I'm rooting hard for Humphrey, Bergman (obviously), and Dlagnev. Fortunately they are all favorites.

Reece Humphrey wins! JD Bergman wins!

JD won in dominating fashion too, so I'm told.

Two of my former HS teammates are competing. Both are ranked in the top 6 in their respective Greco weight classes (66kg and 96kg). Anyone know where I can find complete results?

Thanks. He came in 4th, losing to Ellis Coleman 4-0 in the semis and Kendrick Sanders 3-2 in the 3rd place match.

Does that leave him out of the World Championship? Is it only the 1st place winner that advances?

No shame in losing to the Flying Squirrel. Yes, only the champ at each weight goes on to represent the team at Worlds. Although, they do take multiple guys for training partners.

I know we're getting into football season, but for wrestling fans, an important vote is just around the corner. The Man, The Myth, The Legend got some front page pub on ESPN.com yesterday. Great read for all.

Reece wrestled here in Indy for Lawrence North HS. He wrestled the same time my two youngest boys wrestled in HS. I got to see him and his older brother wrestle quite a bit. I don't know if it's still on the web anywhere, but the was a video of him when he was at Ohio State where he made the sickest move I have ever seen. If you can find it you will know what I'm talking about.

Still a competitor. As I've gotten older and have 8 grandkids, I can relate to a lot of what he's going thru and feeling. There will never be another Dan Gable.

Indiana has done a bad job keeping their top talent in state other than Angel Escobedo. You put a team of Escobedo, Alex Tsirtis, Humphry, and Andrew Howe together, and Indiana would have been a top 5 team.

You're right. At one time it looked like Purdue might be getting a pipeline going, but it didn't last. Jake O'Brien went to Purdue but he didn't stay. He got visions of MMA in his head. Alex did fairly well at Iowa. Fair or unfair he never met the hype or expectations some had for him coming out of HS. What I remember of him most of all, was how smooth of a wrestler he was. He made it look effortless.

As a person that wrestled in the state of Iowa for 7 years, this make me sad.

Nothing that I can say that hasn't been said already, but this is a travesty.

Never mind, it's on like Donky Kong!

Don't despair. They added wrestling back to the Olympics.

Great news for all of us wrestling fans.

Still need to get it added back as a core sport, so we don't have to go through this voting crap every 4-8 years.

I think that will happen. Rule changes to invoke more action instead of tie-ups should help.
