With all the depth, I forgot he was part of the class.

Yeah right.

On another note, if swimming test is part of football camp, it's as useless as 2 other items.
1) 40 yd. dash for OL
2) T*ts on a bull

Swimming isn't part of the football program, all ND students have to do it

Knew a few kids who failed. Its all laughs until Jaylon has to go to swim class when its ten degrees outside in January.

Great, so now ND admissions accepts students that can't do the backstroke? Wow, just a step closer to being the $EC.

What's next? Admitting louts who've never even studied the Illiad in its original Greek?

Hard to do a backstroke when you are a 230+ lb wrecking ball built for the destruction of QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs.

Man, I can not wait to see #9 streak down the field of the opening kickoff against Temple.

Love it. Totally underrated right of passage at ND.

Agreed. I nailed the swimming tests. I was a competitive swimmer starting in the 6th grade. As a little sh¡t with a bit of upper body strength I was also able to do 35 chin ups and 28 pull ups. I was also able to run pretty damn fast since it was my major avenue of defense growing up when bigger kids had enough of my wise-*** lip.

On the other hand I suffered a number of bruises, split lips and broken glasses when I tried to play basketball at the Rock against members of the football team. Hell, I even ended up in the emergency room when a big galoot, after I gave him a sweet set in a PE volleyball game, smashed me in the face on his way down. Broken glasses, an incredibly bloody gash under one eye, a swollen nose and a black eye ensued.

My point? Clearly: competence, ability and accomplishment in one area of physical pursuit doesn't always carry over to another. I excelled at handball but sucked at hockey – I grew up in Florida with no rinks around.

By the way, Whiskey, that would be "rite," not "right," dammit!!!

Love it. Totally underrated rite of passage at ND.

Agreed. I remember having to take it at 6am or something absurd during the first or second week of school. I was the first person to take the test for the day and the woman monitoring me didn't appreciate my early morning cannonball while she was standing next to the pool.

I almost wanted to fail the swimming test just so I could swim as part of pe freshmen year. Instead I passed so I took racquetball in the rock, indoor soccer at lotus, and rugby. Not bad but I could have enjoyed some swimming freshmen year.

Well, this answers (I think) my unexpressed question. ND was still all male my freshman year and the PE swim test was at the Rock, the only pool on campus at the time. It involved the class strolling, naked as jay birds, to the pool for the test and from the pool to the showers after the test.

I realize that ND has progressed a bit since then, but I doubt that they condone and encourage coed skinny dipping ...

So is the swimming test still at the Rock as it was back when I took it or do the have some fancy new pool nowadays?

Had a dream last night that I was watching the Temple game. Temple got the ball for the first possesion, and on the first play Jaylon hovers over center showing blitz. On the snap he gets through the line so fast he isn't even touched and he dives at the quarterback...who ducks and Jaylon goes over his head! He then quickly recovers from the ground and brings down the QB by wrapping up his legs. I guess I'm a little over anxious for him to get that first sack.

I tested at Loftus 20 years ago, I presume they still do it there since that is the main area for the swim team and much more conducive to processing 2000 sheep, errrr... freshmen.

Knock that swimming out first rotation Jaylon! Don't want to deal with it once the frost sets in.

Interesting, in 1991 when I tested we did it at the Rock.

My bad, Rolfs Aquatic Center - built in 1985. Would have been fall 1994 for me. I was also North Quad, maybe it was broken up between the locations.

Some people talk about how physically, brutish and imposing Jaylon was in high school; I did not see that. HOWEVER, I have never seen that kind of blazing acceleration. Not from anyone. As a high school senior, I got the same sensation watching him as I did watching Denard accelerate to the line of scrimmage.

DB athleticism in a LB's body.

Two words: Von Miller. I really do think that Jaylon can be that level of player, AKA a top 5 level draft pick.

Per Loy Jaylon swung by camp for a little and was hanging with Hood, Holley, Mouhon, & Carter. Probably wanted to check in on Noah Wezensky, 2016 QB from Luers, he apparently looked really good throwing it around.
