The Cullen kid that took first blows away the field at 210. His closest comp is 203.

Can you say performance enhancing or what?? Am I right?

His Discus throw was good for 34th in the country ( null National B-DT High School Track and Field Rankings - DyeStat.com TFX - The Internet Home of High School Track, Field and Cross Country ). That's pretty awesome. I'm curious how good he is with his technique. Either way it's amazing, but if he isn't technically strong his strength must be super-human.

On a related note, the kid who won Division II in Ohio in the discus is Anthony Shivers of Salem High School. He threw a best of 203 feet, 2 inches to win it — the second-best in Ohio history.

Anyway, I bring this up because he's going to Notre Dame in the fall to throw for their track team.

My #1 want for the remainder of this class by a long shot. I think Smith will be the best college offensive linemen of anybody in the 2014 class. Here's why:

I don't recall seeing a high school OL with that frame, that size, and that build ever. He doesn't have an ounce of fat on him at 6'6" 275 pounds, which tells me two things: (1) he's got natural physical gifts unlike anybody we've seen on the O line at ND in a long time, and (2) he spends a lot of time in the weight room. This is the type of kid who develops into a freakish athlete, and you can never have enough of those on a gootball team.

surely with his frame he should be playing DE?

Plus his athleticism, this is what I thought. IDK how they determine what's best. 6'6", 280-ish seems like a future monster 3-4 DE, but shows what I know lol.

Damn, Kid looks ready to play. If I was the opposite team I would line up about five yards away from the line of scrimmage and try to juke him when he blocks for the run. Haha

totally a freak...I mean his head is so tiny.

Kid is an absolute monster for sure. Has there ever been some talk about DE for him or are we just throwing it around? Either way to have a kid his size and strength already I say line him up everywhere and see what he is capable of. May become a one of a kind type of player.

just throwing it around man, his torso just looks too lean to that of a typical Olineman. Even ripped guys like Jake Long (3 years ago) were never like that.

All our other OL commits LOOK look like OL. He looks like some kind of freak TE experiment gone horribly right. He doesn't even move like an OL.

Jake Long is exactly who I thought of when I first saw that picture, but you're right Long wasn't that lean. Braden looks to be built more like a bodybuilder than a football player. Not exactly sure how or where that build transfers to the football field, but I know it does transfer somehow.

I love it: all of our OT commits are always pegged as OGs for a while. Now we are tlaking about a 6'6", 290 lb., consensus top 50 OG being pegged as athletic enought to play DE or TE... with no mention of OT.

We are pretty darn picky about our OTs. Sam Young must have done us in.

Hey STL, I saw your update on the Master List from 6/11 that said things are trending towards Texas A&M. Just wondering if there was an update that I missed in this thread, or if something has happened recently?

Well the relative lack of updates doesn't bode well. IIRC ND, A&M and another school (Bama?, TCU) were his top 3.

I think TCU is the third, I know his sister goes there so that could play a factor.

Can't speak for STL but he may have been referring to the fact the last 6 Crystal Ball predictions were for TAMU.

I feel really confident with Smith. I think Heistand pulls him in. If not, I think he's a Horned Frog.

Interestingly, the last 6 "Mood Ring" updates on 247 were all for A&M (6 votes for A&M and 4 for ND total). All of the votes for ND came in late March while the A&M votes have ranged from early April to early June (though 2 votes are by A&M writers, and 1 by a Michigan writer).
