1 seed minnesota lost in the first round in a semi-upset to Yale (semi because Yale would later win it all) and wisconsin got destroyed in the first round.
The most impressive team was PSU. PSU was in their first season of Division I NCAA Hockey and they knocked off half of the B1G in their first season. Beat ohio in Pittsburgh, state and wisconsin on the road. That is really impressive.
Trouble with college hockey is that, in any one game, the sport is so random.
And a one-loss-and-out setup like you have in the NCAA tourney, or even the later rounds of the CCHA tournament, can mean a really good regular season goes up in smoke because your opponent scores a cheap goal, has a decent goalie and sits back playing defense all night. The best team often doesn't win.
But of course that means it's always competitive, and fun to watch.
Either way, isn't the CCHA toast now? It's too bad. I grew up watching Hockey East and it's a great conference. But ND-Michigan in hockey was a great rivalry, and playing the likes of OSU and Sparty was fun, too. Proximity breeds hatred, especially in a parochial sport like hockey. Hopping in with BU and BC and Maine and UNH, great as they are, just won't be the same.

I must say that I am upset by this news. I understand the viewpoint of the rivalry not doing much for us in recruiting(theoretically) as opposed to a Texas per se. However, this game is more than that imo. It is two states battling, two storied traditions, two midwest powerhouses that have created a great series. I think the nostalgia of this game for the fans, the past players and the future ones is something that in my mind should warrant this series to stay in place.
I also think indirectly, we battle with Michigan for recruits and as they become more of a national recruiter as they have the past couple of seasons(New Jersey) comes to mind, we will have much more of an advantage if we are beating them down every year as opposed to them going 9+ wins every season because their schedule allows it.
As a fan...Get these ****ing guys back on the schedule!!![]()
Good read. Knew some of that from books and such, but not all of it. Thanks for sharing that.
That article only makes me want to beat them even more. I understand not wanting to provide any ratings or revenue to their program but if we continously beat them... we will slowly devalue their brand. At the same time osu will be waxing their *** every year. Would love to beat them up...I mean badly. Like run the score up badly. Just my opinion.
If you still want to play the meatchicken skunkbears, read this:

hahaha..... so true. Let it go. I've been over them since forever.
Hoke calling us out in the off-season,
I've made it a personal mission to inform the masses that skunkbear traditions are rooted in bigotry. It's disgraceful.
I think it is humanly impossible to dodge Hoke. It ain't happening.
My Google skills are failing me. Do you know a source for either of the bolded? Sorry for the blast from the past @IrishLaxI've been hearing the same buzz for months too. Not with detail on who Michigan might schedule, but that Michigan was going to try to cancel the return trip to ND in '14. This seemed amenable to ND because we need to drop one more team somewhere to accommodate the ACC schedule for that year.
This is what made the "chickening out" comments really odd, ridiculous, and head scratching. Michigan called in the first place to get out of the '18/'19 games. ND agreed without any rhetoric. Brandon makes public comments about likely having to drop ND with the 9 game conference schedule. Everyone was on the same page at this point... understanding the difficulty of OOC scheduling with conference realignment.
ND exercises the out clause to terminate '15-'17 because we knew we were about to have scheduling constrictions and didn't want to be locked into anything... a break was already scheduled with MSU; and Purdue is quite up in the air. Basically, all of our current arrangements with the Big Ten are in limbo and this was the easiest one... because of the specific out clause... to handle up front. Once ND joined ACC and details came out, I heard more than a couple places that Michigan in '14 was likely to get dropped in addition to ASU to make room. Why? Because Michigan wouldn't want to make the return trip and ND needs to get out of another game somewhere so it's a pretty logical match. But then Hoke goes and runs his mouth? Makes it seem like he hasn't been clued into everything OR maybe it was just brilliant posturing? Paint ND as the "chickens" so that if you win this year you can drop ND and replace us with a "better" opponent at home (Brandon loves his home games!) and the entire fan base laps it up as straight truth. I can see a whole bunch of Walmart Wolverines running around "Hah! We showed you! AND we're dropping you because you're not GOOD enough for us! But you dropped us because you're SCARED!" It'll potentially be unbearable.
The question becomes what if ND wins? Now Hokes comments make it really... interesting... to back out of the game then. Maybe they still go ahead and do it and the real genius is that by calling ND "chickens" first you're effectively preemptively saving face.
It's too bad that ND... by virtue of having no film at all on Michigan and the new offense with Gardner... probably gets beat this year as the D gives up 21+. At least that's what I'm predicting. Film = gameplan = big advantage.
Don't argue with an idiot.....he/she will only drag you down to their level. My Google skills are failing me. Do you know a source for either of the bolded? Sorry for the blast from the past @IrishLax
Arguing with a dumbass Michigan fan.
Well there goes half of the engagements on this board.Don't argue with an idiot.....he/she will only drag you down to their level.
Couldn't agree more! 🤣Well there goes half of the engagements on this board.
