Will be quite interesting to watch this one play out. I like the staff deferring for Allen... but man, we better not miss.

Seriously. Cali kids shows legit ND interest and all of a sudden SC is interested. Shocker, Kitten.

Pretty sure that's how USC has played it all along w/ Dawkins. He's there backup plan and they know he loves USC so it seems every time ND starts to pull away they increase their interest.

From reports it seems the pecking order may be Allen - Kizer - Dawkins w/ the staff still deciding if they want two QBs of not.

Do they honestly still think they can get Keller Chryst? I mean if he stays in Cali it seems clear he'll go to Stanford and otherwise it seems like 'Bama or Pitt (for the family connection) would be the other options.

USC? I mean I know they were up there at one point... right now they can't seriously think they have more than a 10-15% chance though... right? Is Dawkins option #2? Will be interesting to see what happens. He has interest from a lot of places but not the commitable offers.

Honestly have no idea, might want to get LA in here. There has to be somone between Chryst and Dawkins.

This is exactly what I'm wondering. Surprised USC isn't harder after Allen. In California, the next two are Mahalak (Oregon) and Carta-Samuels (Vanderbilt) in the rankings... neither has a USC offer/interest. Then Brad Kaaya (Miami) has no USC interest/offer. Then you have two dual threat guys who I don't think fit USC's scheme and are committed to Boise State/Arizona State.

And then you get to Brandon Dawkins. 8th best QB in the state with all QBs except for Chryst already committed elsewhere so USC would have to poach. Just not really seeing who their plan B and C are but you have to expect there to be one besides Dawkins. Or maybe they pass on a QB?

According to 24/7, Chryst is the only QB they have offered. All of Lane's eggs are in the Chryst basket.

If he gets more offers, he will attend other school. And i doubt the staff have a legit interest in him at this point.

Columbus Elite 11 features a deep, talented group

Listed among "Noteworthy".

Brandon Dawkins, Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Oaks Christian-[/b] Dawkins had his best showing of the spring/summer camp season by displaying excellent velocity/arm strength and a quick release. Notre Dame is the destination if the Irish decide he’s their quarterback. Otherwise, look for him to end up at Utah, North Carolina State or elsewhere. Dawkins currently is the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the 2014 class according to 247Sports.

Isn't this sort of a given? Of course he will end up at a different school since ND isn't ready to accept his commitment at the moment. But if he had a commitable offer from Notre Dame the only school that would stand as a threat IMO is USC

And i doubt the staff have a legit interest in him at this point.

I believe this to be false, he's one of the select few QBs we are recruiting.

What is the knock on this kid? Awesome stats, fits the system, amazing size, freak athlete, quick release, plays top competition. I just don't get why he doesn't have more offers.

Awesome stats? His stats according to Rivals are not that awesome.

174/283 61.5% 2135 yards 17 TD's and 11 INT. That is not my definition of amazing.

Quick release? I thought his release was really bad.

Looks to me like he kinda has a hitch in His throwing motion. He has a strong arm and a pretty high ceiling. He's just isn't very polished. Needs time to develop.

No offense to this kid, but I would like him a lot better as a complementary QB commitment this cycle, rather than THE QB commitment. Would have been more than happy to take him only him a few months ago, but now - with GK and EG gone - the thought of him being one play away from being the starter in a year or two is scary. I'm sorry.

He has an offer from Utah and ND, and. ND didn't even accept his commitment. I don't think he's going to be good, but I think he should have more than 1.5 offers.

I mean clearly Golsons stats were unreal in high school, but who really thought he would be the starter so soon? And look at Zaire. He was no dominate passer in high school. He might be under center week one. I think we have a system that makes the QB look better than advertised. The lose of Golson hurts, but he didn't lead us to the NCG nearly as much as that defense. I really think there is a hidden gem in Dawkins. And I think Kelly can mold him into a star.

Have to disagree with you there. While the defense was HUGE, there were a couple games that any other QB on the roster would not have been able to pull off wins, especially later in the year.

I think it's a good point. Say what you want about his stats, release, etc, the fact he only has two offers (NC State and Utah - can't really count ND if it's not commitable) is puzzling. The #32 DT QB (according to 24/7) is from the same state and has 10 offers. Why more lower tier FBS schools aren't after him is interesting.

I think we end up taking Dawkins as our only QB this year. He has some pretty great intangibles. Look at RG3 in high school and you'd see a very unpolished passer with amazing athletic tools. Very few offers as well. Now i'm not saying Dawkins is an elite track star, but he has the threat of running in his toolbox. I hope we give him a chance. Close shop on QB's this year and take a project in Dawkins.

Given our current QB situation, I don't think it would be responsible of the staff to take his commitment only. There is the POTENTIAL that he would be one of two scholarship QBs on the team next year. That wouldn't be a good position to be in even if Dawkins was a 5-star blue-chipper.
