Are you guys seriously denying that BK had no idea what that his starting QB, who led us to a NCG, was in danger academically?

This is hilarious and if you guys are denying this, it shows you either never played collegiate level sports, or really have no idea what you're talking about.

So we should think that we are cheating because a school caught their starting qb cheating or he didn't pass academically and they suspended him?

I think you have it backwards...

Lets just hope that we don't have to vacate some wins during last season...then I'll give ND props for pulling the trigger

Golson got caught cheating, it wasn't grades.

If this was USC, you guys would be calling for an NCAA investigation because of "lack of institutional control".

This is starting to **** me off....frustrating to say the least. Our starting QB is a cheater and/or can't pass his classes?

...what?

Who would think punishing our star QB because he didn't get a grade in one of his classes is a "lack of institutional control"?

What if he was fine academically but was caught cheating, which most people are agreeing is the most likely thing that you can construe from "poor academic decisions".

Your posts make no sense here pat. You're saying we should be hit with a lack of control for punishing a star qb who was caught cheating. Or that BK should have foreseen that he would cheat. Neither makes a bit of damn sense.

I never considered Ferge a big loss...so whatever with him

But EV and the fact that Kelly didn't have a pulse on his starting QB's grades?!!?

You bet your ****ing *** that's on the staff for not keeping up. I was at an FCS school and my staff was on me about my grades. Don't gimme that ****

Pat I have agreed with you in the past but putting blame on BK is irrational down right making this thread a joke. We all know your feelings on, BK is to blame, EG apparently doesn't get held accountable for his own actions. Jesus let it go, this thread is painfull enough!

Lack of institutional control? Do you ever think about what you write before hit submit?

You bemoan the worst offseason ever, fine. But "lack of institutional control"???

The university catches the starting qb cheating (apparently) and suspends him. That is "lack of institutional control"??? Covering it up and applying no appropriate penalty would be "lack of institutional control".

Kiel, Ferguson and Neal leaving have zero to do with a "lack of institutional control". EV wanting out of his LOI has nothing to do with institutional control. Nothing that has occurred have any semblance of similarity to the recruiting violations which have plagued USC.

Seriously, try thinking rationally before you post, your posts today are just random rants from a very irrational fan. I appreciate that you are upset, but still...

Kelly and staff have absolutely nothing to do with Golson's suspension. This is all on him.

From my understanding, ND does everything possible to assist students who have academic problems. Golson may have gotten the help, but felt it was necessary to cheat for some odd reason.

It's refreshing to see a young man take responsibility for his actions. He admitted his mistakes and is more than willing to do what is necessary to get back in. I'm hoping he's not going to just sit on his butt the rest of the year and watch the world go by. I'd like to see him attend some JC and get his grades in order before he returns.

I, for one, will welcome his return to ND with open arms.

I didn't say we should be hit. Re read the posts.

I said if this was USC and Matt Barkley, and don't lie, we'd all be on the phone with the NCAA telling them to dismiss the program.

And more details are on the way...why was Golson cheating? ND players have more access to tutoring and help than most. Absurd. Don't want him leading my team next fall.

No, we wouldn't. I think the rest of us understand what it means to have a "lack of institutional control".

No I wouldn't. I'd be saying bad luck for USC, Barkley's an idiot, and I'd have begrudging respect for USC letting this see the light of day.

So pretty much exactly how I feel about this situation as an ND fan.

Sorry...at the end of the day, **** flows downhill, fellas.

I think BK is great on the sidelines, but he is clueless off the field. Either he is a god-awful judge of character, or is a tough guy to play for and doesn't get along with the guys.

This Golson thing is just icing on the cake. Your starting QB is a cheater. And you had no idea what was going on with him.

****ing rich.

I am very unhappy that Everett Golston is not now enrolled. But, perspective. Notre Dame is unique. Some universities have football and academics e.g., currently Stanford. Some insititutions have honor and discipline e.g., West Point and Annapolis. Notre Dame is the only one that combines football, academics, honor, discipline and a moral compass. It is not very unique. It is simply unique, Unique is unique.

Notre Dame is the curse and the blessing, the agony and the ectasy, the pain and the pleasure. Notre Dame will do it the right way. Period. I would rather have Notre Dame be true to its principles and never win a National Championship or win it one out of 10 or 20 years than become corrupted and win it 5 or 10 years out of 10 years.

A Notre Dame degree is significant. It is valuable. It will set up up for 50 years because you earned it whether you were a football player or not. It shows you can abide by the rules you have agreed to abide by, you are disciplined, you have got your ego in check and you can work with other people within an organization to achieve goals.

Notre Dame will view academic fraud or plagarism very seriously beacuse the players on the football team are actually students and are actually earning degrees. At football factories academic fraud and plagarism are irrevleant and "ain't needed" because the football players if they are given degrees are given joke degrees, meaningless degrees.

jimmymac your thoughts were extremely valuable and confirm what I thought - Notre Dame makes it abundantly clear, hits you over the head with a 2 by 4 again and again and again repeatedly telling you - NO DRUGS IN THE DORMS. NO! NO! NO!

This is Notre Dame's property and Notre Dame's responsibility. If you use drugs in the dorms, you are screwing up big time. You have been told repeatedly. NO!!!

Why did Stephon Tuitt end up at Notre Dame? I think it was because Stephon's mom understood that Notre Dame was unique. I might be wrong but I think it was because Stephon's mom and Stephon ultimately understood that Stephon would get a great education, that he would actually be a student and that he would be setting himself up for the next 50 years whether or not he became an NFL star. I believe other great football players will end up at Notre Dame for the same reason. I hope that enough of them will end up at Notre Dame to win a National Championship.

Of course I want Notre Dame to win every National Championship but first and foremost, I want Notre Dame to do things the right way. The Notre Dame way.

Completely agree. EG is saying the right things. Follow through, and the Notre Dame Family will welcome you back with open arms. Mistakes have consequences, but one mistake need not define you.

Golson Statement:

Dear Notre Dame Community,

I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term.

I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community.

I chose to attend Notre Dame because of its mission to develop me both on and off the football field.

My parents and the community I grew up in have instilled values in me that have and will continue to allow me to be successful in the future. There have been many lessons learned as I worked to become the starting quarterback at Notre Dame and each was a result of Coach Kelly's belief in me as an athlete and a person.

At this point, I understand how my integrity could be in question but I want to reassure my supporters that through this experience I will return a better student athlete as well as a better individual.

Lastly, I want to thank the University of Notre Dame for the opportunity already granted and also the opportunity going forth to regain my eligibility in the winter of 2014.

Thanks,
Everett Golson

Norte Dame has an entire department dedicated to tutoring athletes. I heard BK talking about it last season. I got the impression that they use a lot of resources to keep kids eligible.

Quote this post and reply if you've ever called the NCAA to report lack of institutional control by another program. Neg rep pat if you haven't.
