Ok. Thanks. I went to class with a guy who plagiarized an entire 10-page paper. All he did was pull quotes from the web and even left the quotation marks in but did not cite references. Dude did not even change the fonts or format it. He was expelled immediately.

I did not know Golson withdrew himself. I thought he was expelled. I pretty much figured you got expelled for plagiarism.

At Ohio State it's a 1 year probabation with a lowering of the class grade for your 1st offense. It depends from school to school honestly and the weight of the assignment. Your classmate is also an idiot, so the school might of punished him for that haha.

ND to college football. LOL.

I agree with those that this is ND. I expect better from the student-athletes.

“@BGI_DanMurphy: I'm told Golson withdrawal is due to an honor code violation. #NotreDame”

“@BGI_DanMurphy: Withdrawn from the school is different from dismissed. It means he still has an opportunity to re-enroll. #NotreDame #Golson”

Best news in the past 12 hours. Still hope this train can stay on track.

I don't know. We have 2 capable veterans in Tommy and Andrew. Hopefully, one of them steps up. True freshman QBs are rarely a good idea to start.

I hope Malik doesn't need to start. But for the next couple of years he will need to be THE GUY if Golson can't comeback.

Are you saying we should be okay with this?

I'm saying it's really stupid to act like he just burned down an orphanage. I understand the high penalty deterrent to cheating but the majority of students do it so just going off raw numbers you'd have to expect about 50 kids of 85 on every college football team in the country to be cheating.

Why is it none of them are getting caught/kicked out? Why is it Cam Newton got 3 strikes? ND just continues to shoot themselves in the foot for no reason.

This sucks for so many reasons, but Golson was probably going to become my favorite ND player, ever. This list includes Quinn, Clausen, Armando Allen, Manti, Derrick Mays, Michael Floyd, Smardijiza, and Zibby.

After thinking about this for a night, I feel truly sad for all those involved....the University, the players, Coach Kelly and the staff, the fans and most of all Everett himself. If the rumors are true of cheating or plagiarism, then yes he f'd up. When is a mistake too great for a second chance? Maybe they have set a path for his return. I don't know. Maybe he won't want to return.

All I know is he a 19 year old kid who sounds like he made a mistake. I truly believe he seems like a good person and this should not define him. I hope there is a happy ending to this story whatever that may be.

I do know I will miss him playing QB at ND next year.

I read this on a SEC board and thought it was pretty funny!

A young athletic QB kicked out of school for misdeeds?

I see him in an Auburn jersey in a few years and his dad in a nicer house

Every student/athlete who participates in the Notre Dame football program, should be awarded, upon graduation, a minor in Drama. No class work necessary. The soap opera that surrounds the entire football program far exceeds anything stage, screen, and acting classes can provide. On with the motley!

Without Golson, ND goes from 25/1 to 40/1 to win the BCS title.

Notre Dame's recruiting classes aren't nearly as impressive once you consider guys who left or never arrived. QB Everett Golson now out.

Tommy is capable of managing the game. Hendrix, IMO, is the wild card. Can he elevate his game to become a real running threat and not look overexcited on every play?

Or is it just better to get Malik the experience? We'd most likely be sacrificing Big Lou, Tuitt and other seniors' last chances but with the attempt of breaking in a new QB that is always the case.

If Golson is gone for good I think we have to get Malik's hands dirty in order to save 2014.

How many drinking instances did Floyd get caught in? Who was the kid that got kicked out for patting a priest on the rear? They do seem inconsistent.

It's important to understand that there are extremely different levels of cheating. I don't know what the official ND policy is but I imagine the offenses go in this sort of order (most serious to least serious)

1a. Having another student take your exam
1b. Copying an entire paper from the Internet or another student
2. Plagiarism of a portion of a paper
3a. Using unauthorized material during an exam. (pulling out your cell phone to look up an answer)
3b. Copying answers from another's exam (think looking over someone's shoulder for MCQs)
4. Collaborating with other students on work that is supposed to be your own (i.e. discussing a take-home exam question)
5. Intentional mischaracterization of a source (saying you got info from Bloomberg when it was actually from Wikipedia)

and so on.

In my experience, #4 and #5 are extremely common at every school, including Notre Dame. Wouldn't be surprised if 75% of students did something like that while I was there. 3a and 3b were also somewhat common at ND. I'd say 15-20% of students did something like that. To kick Golson out of school for any offense other than 1a, 1b, or maybe 2 would be absurd. You might as well shut down the school.

Let's hope Hendrix can break through, which he can if we want to make a BCS game. I like Tommy, but he's too immobile and weak of an arm to make that big of a difference. Hopefully he can unleash his underdog story and do well. But that won't likely happen.

I don't think Hendrix is ready. I'm not sure he ever will be. Yes, our sample size with him is small, something like 40 pass attempts, but he is like the kid on Rookie of the Year, but without accuracy. He throws a straight line rocket, but it looks like he's really nervous and his accuracy hasn't been good.

Then again, you could do it exactly like last year. Start Hendrix and go to Tommy if need be. Probably safer than starting Tommy, having an injury (God forbid), then only have Hendrix.

Shockingly I just woke up from my bleach induced coma to find that this is still reality. Oh well, I have the other 3/4 jug to finish.

Yes, but enroll how? If he were attempt to re-enroll, would he get the same lowered academic standards (because he's a football recruit) that allowed him to come to ND in the first place, or would he just be enrolling as a student at that point? Because if he'll be held to the same standards as other students enrolling at Notre Dame, I'm not holding my breath.

I think Tommy has Coach written all over him. I say let Hendrix and Zaire duke it out and Tommy should start learning from Kelly and come in and save our asses when it is needed.

I'm really amazed that some people here seem to think that ND is somehow "in the wrong" for expelling(I guess?) a kid who cheated on a final exam. I guess it is just a sign of the times, or maybe I am getting older than I think; but since when did it become ok to lie, cheat, and steal our way through life? I'm only human, and have made bad decisions many times in my life. But I always knew, when making those decisions, that there could be severe consequences to them. I accepted that those consequences could come to fruition, and I might have to pay a steep price. It's called being accountable. We don't have to be perfect in our lives, but we do need to be accountable. And that includes the starting QB at Notre Dame. This is a big blow to the team, but it's not like we are doomed to see a repeat of 2007, fer Chrissake. The defense is, and always was, going to be strength of this team. We could very well still make a BCS bowl, with this defense. Tommy Rees will most likely become the presumed starter, with Hendrix backing him up. With this defense, we can still win 9 or 10 games.

This is ND doing it right! You got caught cheating? You're out. You're the starting QB? That's nice; you're out. Almost all of us proclaim to be proud of the fact that ND does it "right". This is one of those times when you have to stand behind what you profess to be your morals.

Ironic that others would get all excited about a "post of the year." This highlighted in my opinion is not just a post of the year, but one of the all-time great posts! It is honest, truthful, and accurate. And it is an unencumbered view of the way the world works, no cynicism, sociopathy, or neurosis here!

Yeah, baby! (This is really insightful IMO).

If Golson comes back in 2014 like some people think he can, does anybody know how his eligibility would look? Does he lose a year for this?

This affects how good we will be next season. But I really dont see how this will have any impact on our recruiting. If anything, it simply shows that the school takes academics seriously and everyone is accountable. That is not a bad thing. That cannot hurt us.

For all the kids Spurrier may get with his little speech, there are at least two moms like Louis Nix and Stephon Tuitt's out there!

We have heard that he may be back as soon as this summer. We have no idea . . .

I'm 95% sure he loses this year. He has no freebies since he has already used a RS year.
