This is gonna come across harsher than its meant, and I don't know all the info regarding this situation or the recent transfers and such either, but as a fan if drugs and cheating were ok with me inside of my football program, I woulda became a fan of another team.

So you'd be a fan of an SEC team

Standards didn't hold us back last year. Plagiarizing (and getting caught) is one of the worst things someone could do in college. Definitely not blaming the standards on this one. This is all Golson

I'm glad that your diploma won't be tarnished from Golson then, must be a huge relief for you. I'm glad your ND degree kept it's academic prestige and value.

Wow, from a purely football perspective this turn of events will rock ND for some time to come. In the span of 2 months, a position of strength and bright future has evolved into a position of .....???? The whole nature of their 2013 offense and gameplanning just blew up.

Here's another question.... I heard rumors about ND admin being anti-Kelly and, by proxy, anti-football after the Eagles interview.

Since then we've had 3 players forced out by ResLife/the administration (Neal, Ferguson, Golson). Coincidence? We also have a new head of ResLife. The guy who was removed seemed to be making good changes towards less draconian bullshit. Are we going back to the dark ages?

Neal and Ferguson were forced out? Maybe I have been living under a rain barrel but, can you expound upon your thesis, and provide more info on the first two?

EDIT: (I of course was catching up this morning after a good nights sleep. Best I had in a while actually. I mention this because of the stress some are feeling with the situation. Do an inventory; all the pieces are still there, every thing is okay!)

A few thoughts:

I understand the anger at the "BS cover story" for Neal and Ferguson. Now that situation makes absolute sense! I actually have more respect for Neal in a convoluted way. His dismissal is related to simple arrogance, and I see those kinds of things around me every day. People of all walks of life bend the rules that they don't like until they get caught. The other shiit was kray.

I hope Daniels is okay.

There are several opportunities for a "Joe Montana" to show up this year.

And with all this you wonder why top recruits won't consider ND?

The players are STUDENT athletes. If you mess the first part up it's all over. Anyone complaining about res life being draconian needs to STFU. You cheat you're gone.

Earlier in this thread it was stated they were caught smoking pot in their dorm.

Welp guys, we always say we like that Notre Dame holds its athletes to higher standards than almost any other school in the NCAA, and it's bound to come with its peaks (being #1 in graduation rate and the BCS standings last year) and valleys (this).

We (or at least I do) root for Notre Dame because, in my opinion, it represents what college football should stand for--players are students first, athletes second. Would you rather ND ignored this and pulled some strings to let EG stay? That would've made us no better than an SEC football factory. So while I'm obviously really bummed that EG is gone, it is what it is and I respect the fact that Notre Dame is doing the right thing.

Tommy Rees after the news broke. At least we can chalk Michigan up as a win. Rees owns them.

1. My first reaction was a laugh after the past 5 months.

2. It sucks.

3. Gotta wonder what BK's mindset is these days.

4. I say we go double tight, power I all year and don't care who plays QB. Backfield of Utupo, GAIII, and mix of Mahone and McDaniel.

The ironic thing is that the level of intelligence, decision making ability and stress management required to play QB at Notre Dame is far beyond what nearly every student at ND has to endure.

Well just found out about this lovely pile of shitsroses. Smh. I had sneaking suspicions in the back of my that all was not right in the program. Now it is confirmed.

Welp, Tommy starts with Hendrix mixed in from time to time. We become the greatest running team of all time???

OR maybe BK was already hinting about this situation and his solution???? See below:

Alford and company

Alford and company

The Golson academic expulsion may dramatically affect recruitment. This morning, is that a Cheshire cat grin we see on Steve Spurrier's face? His recruitment argument, and Notre Dame's Achilles' heel, will go something like this - leave your own backyard like Everett, leave your comfort zone for supposed higher ground, and look what it will get you, academic trouble with a capital T! I can see over half of Notre Dame's 2014 targets interest going from cool to ice cold with this expulsion. Considering a Notre Dame athletic offer? You might be shopping down the wrong aisle. As a result of this expulsion, Alford and company will have their work cut out for them!
