I think QB are going to have to realize that we will only have one guaranteed on the roster in 2014 right now. Two is a MUST and EE for anybody we take will be very beneficial. We are in a tough spot but its not as if top flight QBs haven't had another freshman come in with the before (Florida, Texas come to mind). We will get our guy/guys and be fine.

I can't really get excited right now about a commitment from this guy. I just feel like we are replacing the loss of EG with this guy. I know that's not how it is, just how I feel right now.

He's got elite tools but he's yet to put it together even at the HS level. Kyle Allen is special and is more of need than ever but I would love to see Dawkins come as well as a long term project because like I said the tools are there he just needs how to properly use them.

That said Dawkins cannot be the main get at QB.

Very true. One may not even get a redshirt because with EG gone we basically will have Zaire in 2014.

We could have Andrew in 14 as well, technically.

I don't care what his release looks like or if people think he sucks.
In a perfect world he's just depth behind MZ and a buffer for a top 2015 QB.
Heck, if MZ plays this season, I could see ND start to gain momentum with all the top 2014 qb's since there would now be a two year gap between them.
Get him aboard, coach him up, and let's see what he can do!

We need both Allen and Dawkins. Rees is a SR. and Hendrix may not be back. Has a year's eligibility left but will have degree and may move on. That just leaves Zaire.

Frankly I'd worry that taking the commitment of a player who jumps because Golson's "gone" may well lead to a decommit down the road when Golson comes back (which still seems a most-likely scenario at this point).

I say take him as an Athlete. Give him a look first at QB but if he doesn't cut it, move him to WR. He looks like he has the talent, size, and speed for that.

I agree but if we are possibly going to take 2 QB's this year, he probably won't scare off a recruit like Allen and he has the potential to get better.

Personally I'd prefer we waited on taking a commitment from him him, at least until Allen visits on the 10th of June. It's not as if Dawkins currently holds a ton of other offers and there are other players like DeShone Kizer who are similarly talented and are hoping that we will offer them.

Pity this didn't happen a couple of months ago, we could have put ourselves in the picture for Morgan Mahalak who committed to Oregon recently. Maybe we still could try and sway him...

Actually his rankings look pretty similar to Johnny Manziel's coming out of high school. We don't know enough to say who has the potential to develop.

Dawkins made himself look a little foolish. Everybody on twitter congratulating him for the commit and looks like the staff does not want to accept the offer yet.

He must be disappointed, frustrated or i do not know.. I think he did not expect that decision by the staff and he was 100% ready to commit.

Pretty unanimous from all sites that we're gonna wait on taking his commitment until we've talked to Allen or he has visited. So more than likely this situation will be on hold for a couple weeks.
