Suspects kill a cop, they jack a Mercedes, police are after them, Suspect 2 runs over Suspect 1 and Suspect 1 is shot and killed, Suspect 2 is still on the run, there is an old man with a suicide bomb vest on right now but it's not clear who or what he is and if he was a willing participant.

Suspect 2 is a 19-year-old college student from Chechnya who has been living here for what appears to be a year or two. If I had to make an uneducated guess, I feel like his older brother, Suspect 1, was a radical from Chechnya and brainwashed his younger brother into being a terrorist. Suspect 1 was an abusive loner.

They were in a gunfight with police outside of car. The one was hit apparently by gunfire and then other guy ran him over fleeing scene.

I believe there have been reports that the dead guy and another one were strapped with explosives and a switch and I also read tumor that one of the houses they raided had something in the basement that resembled a rocket.

So as a journalism student in an endangered occupation soon to be extirpated have you chosen your new major yet or will you be camping out in a park in a couple of years protesting your student loans and grim job prospects?


I hate to break this industry secret but the media have used police scanners for 70 or 80 years. Actually a scanner wasn't required as back then had the police bands as a tuneable feature on something called r-a-d-i-o.

To the credit of MSNBC, Fox, CNN, and the ABC affliate I watched tonight they ALL noted that they had information such as names but unlike the irresponsible bloggers and tweeters they ALL refrained from "confirming" information that law enforcement had not confirmed. They all connected the dots/similarities but noted they would await positive I.D. from law enforcement.

The on site media reported that they were told by law enforcement to turn off cell phones to minimize an accidental discharge of a possilbe bomb and they complied with that directive. The "eye witness" social media crowd kept those cell towers hopping getting their 15 minutes of fame without regard for anyone's safety.

Well thank you for breaking that "industry secret" to me and informing me of grim a grim job outlook. My point was directed more about how social media was killing live TV news. But thanks for the lesson on things.
