This kid obviously has issues, but why the hell did he consent to the search?

Also, couldn't he have just done the supplemental draft and be making bank right now? Instead, he's aiming for pacman jones status.

The supplemental draft is in June or July, after the draft and before training camps begin. So, no, he couldn't have gone that route this year. He could, however, gone the path of Mike Williams and others-- stick around your school that fall and spring and rehab/practice/work out/demonstrate some maturity and go in the draft the following year.

Yeah. He will still go to NFL at least for a little while. He would have to completely derail to not have some team take a chance ( ie Periloux). How many of us would have thought Michael Vick would play again?

For those who didn't read the article. Mathieu stopped counting at 10 failed drug tests.

Dude's a piece of $hit. I hope he never gets a sniff in the NFL.

/thread

His coaches and admins, who were the adults in the situation, should never see the light of day, because it is clear all they were interested in doing was exploiting him.

So let's see, last week it was Auburn Piece if Sh*t University with their synthetic pot positive tests that they turned a blind eye to (1 player failed 7 consecurtive tests) now it's Louisiana Piece of Sh*t State University and the Drug Badger. Any chance someone pulls the curtain back on Alabama or Florida? Florida's players did it to themselves in a way by getting arrested 29 times during the Reign of Urb. Cesspools get insulted when you refer to them as the SEC.

I agree but let's be honest... he was an adult as well. They all need to be held accountable.

That begs the question, who is more culpable, the addict with his addiction, or someone that knows it, and feeds it, and exploits the addict?

I of course have no answers either to the hypothetical or to this actual case, but looking back at my past and some of the addicts I have known, inevitably, the enablers were worse. They had a clear-minded choice.

And I agree with you, he was an adult. But if he was like other 18-21 year olds, give me a break! What a welcome to the real adult world!

Well, having confidence is one of the necessities of a good cornerback, so maybe former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu's 2013 NFL draft party is just showing teams he has his swag back.
Or, it's a poorly thought out idea that someone should have talked him out of. Either way.
Mathieu posted an invitation to a Thursday party at SL nightclub in New York, which is "For 1st round draft pick Tyrann Mathieu." You'd have a hard time finding a reputable mock draft that has Mathieu in the first round, but maybe he knows something nobody else does.
Even still, is it really the best idea for a player who didn't play college football last year and has been trying to convince teams that he is over the drug issues that plagued his time at LSU to be announcing a nightclub party the night of the first round of the draft? Not to mention the irony in the flyer, considering Sports Illustrated's story last year that pointed out Mathieu put his NCAA eligibility in danger by appearing on flyers promoting parties.
If you think it might be fake or unauthorized, Mathieu's verified Twitter account sent out a reminder of the party:

Look, Mathieu can do whatever he wants. He's a grown man. Having a party on a big night in his life isn't wrong, and just because he has a party doesn't mean he's going to do anything wrong there. And we do hope he gets drafted and has a great, long career. This whole thing just seems like an idea that's not great for his image on the eve of the draft.
Planning a nightclub party presuming he'll be a first-round pick, when he should feel pretty fortunate to be drafted in the first few rounds after his off-field issues, and announcing it to the world just doesn't seem like the best move. About 15 minutes after sending out the party invitation for when he's drafted in the first round, a notion nobody else seems to share, Mathieu had this to add:

UPDATE: A few hours after promoting the party by sending out a link to the flyer that was on his Instagram account, Mathieu backtracked on the "first round" part of it:

Yes. Because he's got the past that tells us he won't be "doing anything"....See, there is the problem.

Maybe, instead of broadcasting a night of partying, he should just be thankful he's int he postion he's in and keep off the radar UNTIL he's drafted and paid.

I honestly think he'll be outta the league in a few years.....It's not that smoking pot is so bad, but he's got a total disregard for rules and accountablity.

idk if he'll go first round, but I have a hard time believing he gets out of the 3rd round, definitely no later than 4th imo...dude dominated the best league in the country and if he gets his act together he could be electric on defense and special teams

So did Rashaan Salaam and Danny Wuerrfel. Just saying. IMO he's too short and he's a mental midget. He'll be out of the league in 3 years.

rashaan salaam played for in the league formally known as the Big 8 if I remember correctly.

you may have the mental midget part right, but him being too short is not good reasoning for him not being successful.

if I were picking in the 3rd round and the need was there i'd take a chance.

Re Salaam I was just pointing out a guy that dominated in college and couldn't hack it w the big boys. As far as Mathieu goes, I don't see his height as the reason he ultimately fails, just another thing that will work against him. His bigger obstacle is his immaturity and lack of common sense. What's the under over on time before he fails a drug test in the league.

...the guy admitted to an addiction. I think if a team drafted him, and didn't make it mandatory that he was tested every week as a term in his contract, they sure as hell aren't helping him...He needs to know sh!t know he is being tested, and then that accountability should keep him right. Don't allow there to be luck involved.

If he makes it 3 years w/o incident...I think he'll at least be a ST player for 6 or 7 years. He seems like one of those guys that defies what he should be. I wouldn't be shocked if he started for someone next year either...

Salaam had over 1000 yds and 10 TDs his rookie season. It is well documented his inability to "hack it" stemmed more from substance abuse (ironic in this thread about Mathieu) than athletic ability.

A long running joke in Chicago was "Why does RS fumble the football? Because it isn't made of marijuana."

Maybe its me getting older, but he's a punk, the opposite of a role model and if he continues more of the same, I hope he fails miserably.
