over/under on how long it takes for each side of the gun debate to claim that this incident supports their view?

Should probably merge this one with the other Lone Star shooting one...

They're actually decent vocational schools here in Houston, but they're also magnets for gangs and drugs.

I did a quick search and didn't see anything.

It looks like this kid was running in and out of buildings stabbing randomly. So sad.

Can't get away from the reality here--we are a society, for reasons to be discussed at a later date, that is simply LOADED THREE DEEP with Nutbags and broken people--Yet because this particular violently disturbed individual went on his rampage with a box cutter or some such perhaps ALL the victims will survive.---If he had been willing and able to use a bushmaster maybe we see another two dozen fatalities.

The kids in that school had their number come up and got lucky this time.

A very sad statistic is that since John Lennon was gunned down by a psycho what 32 years or so ago---OVER ONE MILLION americans have died from gun violence at the hands of their fellow citizens.

Irrespective of your opinion on gun laws and the second amendment one thing is crystal clear--Something very wrong, and very dark, is going on within the american psyche.

In many ways the GUN argument shields both sides from facing that reality---Right wingers claim people kill people not guns and that we all need the freedom to protect ourselves from the mania---Left wingers wallow in the proliferation of weapons of war, the lack of empathy by the gun toters and the simplistic concept that in a country with more guns then people we can somehow significantly MITIGATE the mania by gun laws.

Its a comforting merry-go round that shields both sides from facing the discouraging and perplexing reality that the american expereince , the american psyche , has grown very very sick--so sick we wage war on each other, and often in the most destructive manner possible.

IMHO its not guns or gun laws that we need--its a major dose of THERAPY and SELF-AWARENESS that address the particular anxt, isolation, hyper-individualism, & near total loss of the sense of comunity that seperates 21st century america from other developed societies, and even from most of our own past!

Prayers go out to those involved.

Can we keep the gun debate stuff in the gun debate thread. I know I have personally addressed the "million people" bull crap, being attacked buy a knife vs a gun, and the mental state of people in the US. Please don't cluter up someones death or injury with this stuff. It has its place in the other thread.

Spoken like a true ostrich and blind supporter of guns as the answer. The fact is that if you cannot speak about the DYSFUNCTION that riddles this society because it is inappropriate when people are being injured or killed---then there can NEVER be a time because people are being injured and killed by our own citizenry EVERY SINGLE DAY!----

As i said its a comforting merry-go-round to ignore whats happening as simply a left/right debate and not as the gross deterioration of the society on so many levels that is actually occurring. The canaries in the coal mine surface daily and weekly --as a society we divert ourselves at our own risk!

I was not saying not to talk about it but talk about it in the thread inteanded for it. What I am saying is it is inapropriate in this thread and would be apropriate in the other. Please read my messages before responding. These threads are for the prayers and updates on the specific events. The "Opinions/Discussions on Guns" thread is designed for the rest. Also do your research before you post. If you dig around you will find I am not just a blid follower but that I have done my research and beileve what I do based on that.

That there are. I work for HISD, and we have a lot of relationships with these schools. Coming from Indiana, it's actually nice to see a good community college system.

That all sounds nice and organized but unfortunately it still rings of an agenda.

Afterall so far by my count there are some 16 posts on this thread--there are only TWO posts that encourage prayers for victims. Thats about the same number that claim my post is inappropriate.

I suppose the posts claiming we should ban knives now---posts encouraing this incident be forwarded to the TSA--thats several posts worrying about their safety during air travel--a post about the drug influence & gang influence at that school in that area--ETC ETC ETC---

So my post which is NOT about guns but a comment on the affect mass dysfuction is having on our society is somehow inappropriate. No i don't buy that.

I go back many decades and let me clue you in---there was a time in the not that distant past when a KNIFE WEILDING mental case roaming the hallways of our colleges slashing youngsters at will was absolutely INCONCIEVABLE. In my mind after every one of these incidents a moment of reflection on why this is happening , should be as appropriate and helpful as prayers for the ongoing parade of innocent victims that fall victim to our own debased pychology.

We get it. You have strong opinions on the matter and we are not saying they shan't be heard. We are just saying to put them in the appropriate thread. I started this thread to make those down in the Houston area aware of what was going on and to express my condolences for the families. Jade has debated many a times with some of the anti-gun people on this board and always with respect and willingness to listen to the other side. If you take it to the other thread, he will no doubt be willing to discuss this further with you. Not saying you are necessarily anti-gun, but the points you bring up are also discusses in length in the other thread.

Here you go. http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/leprechaun-lounge/80636-opinions-discussions-guns.html

Here's good update. They seem to be on top of the story.

Reports of multiple stabbing victims at Lone Star College - Houston weather, traffic, news | FOX 26 | MyFoxHouston

In a statement released before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Alex Rodriguez with Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center said two patients remained in critical condition and three others have been upgraded to good condition, one of whom was discharged.

I've heard no updates on the condition of the 2 critically wounded patients. Apparently they still don't know what the kid used; I've heard speculation about a pencil even. Crazy stuff. I wish we'd hang *******s like this from their nuts.

Box cutter.

An LATimes article at 3:10 reported a box cutter with the source being student emails:

Chalfan said emails circulating among his friends included a picture of one woman, a purported victim, with a box-cutter blade lodged in her cheek
