Are we really going to compare Joe Flacco to Trent Dilfer. Because if that is about to happen, ill just leave. Look I understand he isn't Peyton Manning, Tom Brady level. But he is 28 and just won Super Bowl MVP. There would be a line of teams willing to pay him whatever he wanted to play for them. Ravens did what they had to do.

Oh lord, no. I'm certainly not comparing him to Dilfer... I'm just stating, sometimes Super Bowl QBs do grow on trees.

I'm in no way comparing those two. Lol

This cant be serious. Cleveland, Jacksonville, Arizona just to name a few. Super Bowl winning quarterbacks don't just grow on trees.

And all these teams have more holes then swish cheese. Neither of these teams could afford to spend that money on him when they have a lot of needs.

This is how I look at it.

QB's I would definitely take before Flaco
Brady
P. Manning
Rodgers

QB's I would probably take before Flaco
Brees
E. Manning
Roethlisberger

QB's based on Potential I would probably take before Flaco
Luck
Griffin
maybe Wilson

QB's on the same level as Flaco
Matt Ryan

So that puts him somewhere between 7-12 on the QB list for me. Sounds about right. He is a good to very good QB but Flaco is not an elite QB.

This contract is a joke, no doubt. Balt will be feeling this one for years to come. However, anyone who can say with a straight face that Flacco isn't a good QB needs to have their marbles checked. The dude isn't elite, but he's far from average too.

That's a lot of money for a guy whose never thrown for 4K yards, never had more then 25 TDs in one season, has had only one year with over a 90 rating, and benefitted with a historical great defense.

Whatever though, not my money and good for him. Pressure will kick in if he can't live up to at least his career averages.

And somebody please remind Mark May that Flacco backed up Tyler Palko and had 1 career completion in his Pitt career. Calm down big guy.

Comparing Flacco and Dilfer isn't fair. Dilfer was much better than Flacco.

You can't truly think that, right? Dilfer won with the 2nd best defense ever. Flacco had an aging defense, made tons of plays in his playoff run, and made nearly zero mistakes. I agree with a couple of posts ago...he's probably about the 7th or 8th best QB in the league. Too much money for him, but better than losing him.

Joe Flacco Game By Game Stats and Performance - Baltimore Ravens - ESPN

No comparison.

Flacco is very good.

In NFL with hard salary caps I can't see how this is smart.

This isn't the NBA with the Bird Rights rule were teams can go way over the salary cap and resign their own players. The Ravens will lose players because of this.

Most important position in sports...you've got to lock it up. Again, overpaid, but they couldn't lose him. Who could they possibly get that would be as good or even close? Nick Foles?

Rhode is being facetitious. His hatred of Baltimore is well documented.

It just saddens me that a team would pay this much for a Top 10 (bottom end of that Top 10) QB. He is way to streaky to be given this kind of paycheck. Flacco does throw one of the best deep balls in the NFL, but he simply does not produce the stats, as someone has mentioned, to garner these wages. For Baltimore's sake I hope this works out well.

I get that QB is such an important position but here is my question:

Did the Ravens even try to pay him less or did they just break the bank without even negotiating?

I think they tried to pay as little as possible. But, you know, he just won the super bowl. He played without renegotiating his deal before the season, which was a gamble. He won.

I understand that, but Dilfer also played for Baltimore. So I couldn't quite tell...

My bitterness doesn't extend back that far. I should clarify that as much as I am being facetious, I also really don't think this Flacco contract is good for Baltimore.

Think he meant Jim Caldwell. Both lifeless corpses on the sidelines, easy mixup.

I'm pretty sure Jim Caldwell called the offensive plays for Baltimore this season. LOL. He did do it from the box though.

Being a Bucs fan, I was hoping Morris would be better.

Fellas.....You're worth what you can get someone to pay you.

It's not about "deserving" it.

Good for Flacco.

I can see the payout. For one, he pretty much dominated in the playoffs. For another, all the guys in the league a lot better than him are a bit older, save maybe Aaron Rodgers.

Not that I would necessarily choose him 1st in Madden, but Super Bowl + QB play + Expiring contract = payday.
