One that was missed is the recruit visits. Each of the athletes who sponser a player get paid cash to take out the recruit and have a good time. Most of the time the recruits have no idea this money even exists so the sponser typically gets to pocket it. In one of my recruiting trips, my sponser told me about the $$$ and asked me what I wanted to do (go to a strip club and actually spend the money , or go to a house party and split the cash evenly, I chose to pocket the cash). So I actually left my trip with $70 bucks in my pocket.

At Notre Dame??? I hope not...

.... it happens everywhere. I know REGULAR ND students who did stuff similar this. Bottom line is that everyone sells their books back at the end of the semester whether you took the class or not... so if you're on any kind of aid/book scholarship you get $$$ in your pocket... and everyone else just gets a rebate of what they paid.

The part I thought was genius was systematically choosing courses with the most costly books and then dropping them. That's awesome.

So why not remove the link and provide appropriate attribution as discussed a day or two ago in another thread?

It's not so much about the actual link...as it is that we just hate Clay Travis.

Not sure about that. Most schools don't actually give athletes their books. They're lent to them for the semester and have to be returned afterwards. You don't get to keep the books and sell them back to the bookstore.

Serious question: I don't really know much about Travis. I know the name, but don't remember reading much of his stuff or reading anything by him that was unfair or unbiased towards anyone. What's the problem with him and why do so many IE people dislike him? I really don't know enough about him to have any idea about the guy.

I don't see anything wrong with athletes selling books back, or gambling with other athletes. I make bank with my work's per diem, why shouldn't an athlete? Hell, I sold carts of stuff at the end of the semester when I had unused Domer Dollars, why can't an athlete?

I do understand not working and getting paid like you are.

The living on campus while off campus thing is pretty good though, I'm kind of surprised the allowance wouldn't go to an account with the department instead of going straight to the student.

The food per diem is no joke. A walk on I know said one time they got 100 bucks for food for a weekend. He just had McDonalds and pocketed the rest.

I asked the same thing after I was chastised for posting a Clay Travis article and no one responded. I've never heard of him before these articles so can some of the Clay Travis haters please explain?

The reason Clay Travis has a bad rep around everywhere but SEC country is that he is bonafide idiot/troll who does nothing but talk sh*t at football in the rest of the country. When Florida, the team that played the hardest schedule in the SEC and won all but 1 game, almost loses to Louisiana Lafayette... not a peep. When Florida gets blown out by a Big East team that lost at home to UCONN and got blown out by Syracuse? Not a peep. LSU loses to middling ACC team? Not a peep.

South Carolina should've lost to a middling 5 loss Big Ten team and gets a miracle last second TD to win? HOW BOUT THAT JADEVEON CLOWNEY! TOLD YOU THE SEC IS JUST SO MUCH BETTER WITH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ATHLETES!

Texas A&M, a Big 12 team for all intents and purposes, blows out Oklahoma? SEE THE SEC IS > ALL! EVERY TEAM IS SUPER AWESOME!

Alabama blows out Notre Dame? SEE FOOTBALL EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY TOTALLY SUCKS!

It's just tiresome because it's idiotic pandering/trolling. He intentionally posts stuff to rile up people around the country... and then on the other hand panders to his base in Tennessee/SEC country to keep him on the radio. But, more than anything, it's his smug style of writing that is bothersome to me.

I had no issues linking this article because it's actually interesting. The reason most articles don't get linked is because they're trolling garbage. So I think he earned the page clicks.

He has an utterly condescending tone in his writing and on air (filling his "columns" and talk-rants with phrases like "this is key," "I'm right about this," "you can't dispute that"). He shamelessly self-promotes on air and on his website. He constantly presents his "arguments" in an esoteric fashion. His makes "arguments" about something....then uses after-the-fact results to prove his argument. He isn't aware that sports, or life in general, exist outside of the sec. He is a frequent user of straw men, ad hocs, and many, many other logical fallacies in his arguments. He sees no value (or at least he does not ever express it) in anything other than money or wins-- those are the end-all-be-all purposes in life. He touts his record/career as an "attorney"...although he really doesn't possess one (yes, he went to law school, but his actual work in practicing law is not anything he should brag about). He perpetuates arguments, ad nauseam, based on what he wants to believe, rather than legitimate logic-- he draws a conclusion, then only cherry picks facts to bolster his argument of said conclusion.

In short, if you were to take the worst attributes of colin cowherd, rob dibble, and rick reilly, then constructed them into one horrendous human being, clay travis is what is born.

It doesn't matter what's being said, it only matters who's saying it.

Nailed it. This is what I was trying to say but couldn't find the words.

I should also note that I had never, ever heard of Clay Travis until this year. At some point someone linked me an article of utter foolishness and I followed his rants/writing/tweets through bowl season... I understand how he is good at drumming up hits, but there is nothing to respect about him as a "journalist" on any level. He is either the best actor/troll ever or he is the kind of completely delusional human being that I loathe for being illogical while pontificating that they are the paragon of logic and intelligence.

OK, thanks. I'd heard of him and knew he wrote about sports, but that's about it. I'm not even sure I've ever read anything by him.

It's got to be the former. Travis a master troll, which merits some grudging respect, but by the same token, one should never ever take seriously anything he says or writes.

I must also now admit, that I actually was into him/followed him/read him/listened to him...or whatever you want to call my dalliance with him. Maybe I could say, "we flirted"? :whoknows:

I specifically remember talking about him with Whiskey a year or more ago...and then even somewhat backed him up early this past season. Maybe I got swept up in the excitement of backing and bolstering another fellow Nashvillian? :whoknows:

Whatever the case, Whiskey/Lax/mods-- could y'all go back and erase any posts I've ever made on here that did anything but bash him? Then, go ahead and retroactively ban me for posts that, in any way, ever backed or defended this guy? I mean I'm not telling y'all how to do your jobs, but what in the wide world of sports ever let me get away with such disgusting behavior on here????

I'm off to now go flog myself and then wallow in pig sh!t. Please, I beg of IE, forgive me for any hint of transgression involving this dude, who shall now forever go nameless.

It happens. I've done the same with a couple of ex-girlfriends. :)

As I was reading this post, Colin Cowherd came to mind and then there it is in print (or type). Well done.
