ND looks really lethargic out there. Besides Knight and Auguste, no one else has really shown any energy or burst.

This was one of the worst performances I have seen under Brey. Tough game, hope they can regroup. The remaining schedule is brutal.

We always play terrible on the road.
Providence is a good team.

BUT, come. the. heck. on...

This game was over before it began.

Unreal.

Really tough to expect a great game out of them at noon on a Saturday after the past week they have had, especially considering how hot Providence is playing and it is alumni weekend there (best crowd of the year).

Pulling out the Louisville game will be really important. ND needed a good win like that to keep itself off the bubble.

Monday might be rough. They need to keep it competitive at least or their latest stretch really becomes unimpressive. Two overtime wins over a bad DePaul team, two beat downs, and a 5 OT thriller in which they played horrible for 39 minutes plus whatever happens against Pitt. Not a good look for a team that was recently an 8 seed in a mock selection committee's eyes.

I agree with this

I'm sorry, but they didn't even show up today..
I understand prov had a lot going for them. Still no excuse to be inept on offense. It was pure sloppiness. Zero urgency.

Remember what I said about them still having work to do to make the tournament? I even chalked up Providence as a win without doing my due diligence. Need to AT LEAST beat Cinci and St. John's at home to get in the tournament. If we lose either of those games we will need to pull an upset over one of the remaining teams on our schedule who will be favored over us.

I definitely agree they did not show urgency, but again I think that goes back to the week they had + the factors that Prov had going for that. Those factors combine to set up a perfect storm for the type of game we saw.

I think they are going to need a win in the BE tourney too. Just not enough going on down the stretch if the remaining games play out how they SHOULD. If they go 2-4 their last 6 and lose the first game they play in the tourney, they are going to be really close to missing out and will need some help in usual one bid league tourneys.

Just rewatched the entire game from DVR.

1.) Someone PLEASE tell Atkins and Grant that sometimes, well, just make the "easy" play. They try to make the exceptional pass way to often.

2.) When Cooley and Auguste are on the court at the same time, we need to take advantage of the Auguste mismatch. He had a great dribble drive 3pt play, and then we ignored him. There were a few times he had a guy 4-5 inches shorter than him pinned down, and the ball on his side of the court, and it's like it was too easy a pass for our guards to consider making.

3.) We really need Martin back from a defensive standpoint.

4.) We are a "deep" team from a player perspective, but not with regards to potential line-ups. Some of the combinations Brey is putting out there really limit us.

I would love to see this Monday game at Pitt be Auguste's coming out party. Let him bang with Adams (I think it's his name). Let him and Cooley play off each other in the post. I'd love to see what happens when we get away from this dribble-drive-watch offense and play through the post.

Oh, and I agree with other posters in this thread. Our 2-3 is garbage. I watched I believe Valpo play some yesterday and they played a bunch of 2-3. It was amazing how active the zone was. The didn't let the guy in the middle of the zone have his way, they moved around. They pressured.

Edit: Oh, and wanted to say this as well. Beichied will be a player (I can't spell his last name, sorry). He'll be good. But, channeling my inner Beano Cook, Zach Auguste will be a 2-time BE First Team selection.

Just try to run for 4 minutes. no Knight, Cooley or Shermanator. They certainly won't get any worse shots than they've taken so far tonight.
