Only problem I see with this is, not only is site traffic and exposure good for us, but then we would probably get a million people try to join right then. Approving all those posters would not be an easy task.
Just means 3,000 people will sign up, haha
And it'd hurt to not let them join on a gameday? If that's even possible. Then let's say ND loses a game or squeaks out a game to Purdue we don't have trolls that add nothing. Honestly most then join on gamedays are trolls anyways.
I'm not sure why it was so slow. We had 4 times that many people during the NC game, and I don't remember it being that bad.

But is there anyway we can disable guests when there's an announcement like this or even after a game? It's a little aggravating to get locked out of the site because there are 3,000 guests on here. Just a suggestion.
First class suggestion. For years there has been commentary on how to increase membership. You hit a prime example to encourage people to do so.
And no there wouldn't be a crush of new applicants to process as that gets shutdown a couple of hours to a day before such an announcement/event. Those that are serious would do what they need to do on a timely basis, if "encouraged" to do so.
IE was not getting 3000 hits while the site crashed. Tough to see (or get credit for) the advertisements when all that's visible is error/connection problem dialog box.
Could pose a problem for members who aren't automatically signed in.
up the bandwidth $$$$
Just leave open the general football forums to unregistered users.
Make the Recruiting/whatever you feel like areas "Registered" only.
Na that's not cool. I lurked for a half a year before I signed up.
I also lurked for a long time before joining as well. It seemed to me at least in regards to the EV action it ended up being a problem with MaxPreps. The video uploaded well past the signing so I think a lot of us were just continually re-loading to see if we got him. Between my CPU and phone I was able to get in although it definitely took longer. IMO it seems more like a one off than a consistent issue
