To a kid who isn't an ND fan it's not that simple. BK and Mora will both be talking to him, both saying that they aren't interested in leaving, both saying that the other guy is.

Most believe the coach they commit to is the one that will be there all 4 years. Just wish some would see the future a little better.

I still think we are going to pour a glass of that fine Vanderdoes & Fitch scotch whiskey.

Not feeling to good hear. Want to but don't. Great fit and great player. Just to late and too far. Prove me wrong Fitts

I just wished we would have made a bigger push for him earlier on in the process, oh well. Things may change but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Man I wish we could steal him. I was thinking that if we snagged Fitts then Matuska becomes a flex guy who can start out his career at OLB and then, if necessary, bulk up to DE down the road or stay trim and stay at LB. It would be almost like getting two players. As things currently stand, our DL depth is thin and Matuska has to play DE.

I am cautiously optimistic here though that may be misguided. I will say 60/40 to UCLA

Where would Fitts even play for us? He seems like a pure 4-3 DE to me

3-4 DE, primarily as a run-stuffer. Though he's a little underweight, he's very strong. With a redshirt-year under Longo, he'd definitely be able to contribute.

We're gonna feel the loss of KLM next season on standard downs. A recruit like Fitts could help fill that void.

We'll miss KLM's leadership but Sheldon Day is going to be better than Kap by the time he leaves in my opinion. Don't think their will be that big of a drop off between the two even next year. Day is ahead of schedule for a freshman.

Don't forget that we have a fresh off a redshirt, Jarron Jones as well.

He may well be, but they were very different players last season. ND's defense made huge strides against the run with Ethan Johnson and KLM at DE. Both were 6'4'', 300+ lb. run stuffing monsters. When EJ left, we didn't miss a beat because of Tuitt.

Day's listed at 6'2'' (which is generous) and 285 lbs. He's an explosive pass rusher, but I don't know whether he has the length or the strength to be a consistent contributor on standard downs. I hope he proves me wrong.

Jones will be getting reps but i don't think he will be pushing for a starting position. The entire defensive staff this season raved about how far ahead of schedule Day is, and they redshirted Jones. That to me means that Jones works into rotation this year and potentially starts next year after we have more attrition on the Dline. Day will be starting DE.

I guess I just can't see him bulking up to the ~300 pound range that our past DEs have played at. Just basing on pictures of him, his frame doesn't look like it can support much more weight and still be effective athletically.

He's 6'4'', and has the width to carry 300 lbs without too much trouble. As mentioned above, both Ethan Johnson and KLM were similar.

He's not a speed rusher; he's just really strong and has a good first step. Perfect type of DL to bulk up into a run-stuffer.

Kap was 225 coming in if I remember correctly... Sheldon Day may be pushing 300 next year depending on how Longo decides to have him lift. I bet Kylie could be 270 coming off his RS year. If he gets to 280 that should be heavy enough to be in the rotation, and much like Kap he could be 300 by the time he leaves.

A big problem some people are having is they are stuck in the Weis concept where they see no one developing post HS. This is why we hired Kelly guys. He can project the development of guys years out and recruits accordingly.

I think KLM has spoiled peoples' expectations re: bulking-up.

Not many players gain 60 pounds of quality weight while in college. A few do, but it's not a matter of Longo, it's a matter of genetics.

Kap weighed 20-25 lbs less than Fitts coming in. Fitts could hit 280-290 and be effective. 30-40 lbs is not a lot to add over a college career, especially for linemen.

Kona has gained more than 60 pounds I think, Tuitt gained about 30-40 from when he came in, and I'm sure there are others as well. Fitts is listed now at 245 and may be more but gaining 30-40 pounds would put him in a really good spot to play end in a 3-4. You don't get too many high school kids come in and start college at over 280 that play DE.

Will visit SC when he gets back from Utah on Sunday. He is going to school in LA one way or another. I still think it will be UCLA.

Wonder if we have had our in-home yet. I know he is out of school so I figured it would make the most sense to visit him in the morning / afternoon and then make the trek to EV for the night.
