I can tell you this coming from someone born and raised in Indiana and now living in Alabama. IMHO there is no comparison. I live in Birmingham which is the wealthiest and most advanced city of Birmingham which still is not close to places like Chicago, NY, etc. However, there is tons to be said of living here. There is absolutely NO comparison on females between Alabama and Indiana. The weather is night and day (I think I have worn a jacket 3-4 times this year) better. The food isnt even comparable in taste. The South is very religious compared to the North (surely you have heard of the Bible Belt?).

Yes education wise Alabama cant compare. Clearly there is a lack of integrity in Saban's program. If I had the choice, I would take ND hands down but I feel that way towards any school in America with Stanford being a close second.

But seriously, dont knock it if you havent tried it. And if you have tried it, you would NEVER knock it.

Do not underestimate anything about Alabama or Mr. Saban. There are plenty of good things about Alabama the state, and the university.

In my opinion, Alabama is the best football-only school right now and Saban is the best coach BUT...

It is unapologetically a football factory. If you don't get with the program or fit-in you will be chewed-up and spit out. One year scholarships is what most kids are guaranteed. Put your head down, do exactly what you are told, and you will likely be fine if you stay healthy. If you thrive, you will be considered among the cream of the crop by pro scouts based on Saban's reputation.

If you stay long enough and chose to spend your time well, you can get a decent degree from a decent school, but that is really an afterthought. It's not the $200,000 dollar education that normal students compete for, but its fine. That's all well and good if you are headed to the NFL, but its football: people get hurt, struggle with injuries, play 2 years in the league. Having a diploma from an elite college is a big deal in life, and Alabama cannot offer that. Still, a lot of 5-star recruits just don't care.

Because it is a Southern football factory there are going to be a large number of kids who would not be in college but for football. Having a high percentage of your friends being unprepared for college makes focusing on school much harder. However, the discipline is pretty decent within--thanks to Saban--so you probably aren't going to get in real trouble like you might at Auburn or FSU.

Alabama is culturally Southern in every sense of the word: Protestant, a more socially conservative. If you are an Evangelical Portestant you are going to find a lot of like-minded people (many of our more religious recruits are Protestant, not Catholic, and may even be slightly suspicious of Catholics--although ND does a great job open people's eyes in that regard). You also will find a lot of familiar people if you come from the country or a really small town. Some people fit into that mix and others really don't at all. No doubt, they are going to introduce you to Barrett Jones and a couple of other kids that would thrive anywhere, but the culture still is what it is.

Tuscaloosa is not close to any big, fun cities, although it provides adequte nightlife for poor college kids who just want to act stupid with a beer in their hand and lots of girls around. If you are desperate you can get to Birmingham, Gulf Port,New Orleans, Nashville, or Atlanta.

In short, it is the perfect school for some kids (think A.J. McCarron), but lots of kids walk away thinking, "NOT FOR ME." think Ishaq Williams). The fact is USC, ND, and Alabama really don't have a lot in common. And it is easy to understand why kids pick one over the other.

Chris Zorich

I remember a photograph of Eddie Vanerdoes standing next to Zach Banner. Banner dwarfed Eddie, but those broad shoulders and trunk of Eddie's stood out. Immediately, Eddie Vanderdoes reminded me of Chris Zorich.

He posted a picture from LA yesterday on his Instagram. Wonder if it was from previous trip or if he was actually down there....

Zorich is listed at 6'1" on wikipedia which may be generous. EV is listed at 6'3" on this thread which may be an understatement based on what I have seen of him. The thought of a bigger Zorich makes me smile.

Zorich played considerably lighter than Eddie is now.

I want to make one point: Eddie could play standup linebacker. He has the speed and agility. He is over 300lbs.

Eddie is going to be phenomenal Dlineman in college and yes he did play standing up in high school but I don't think he has the speed or agility to play stand up LB in big time D1 football.

I respectfully disagree. Have you watched his tape? He is incredibly agile and moves well laterally. He can also change direction pretty quickly. I definitely think he could play standing up (and be somewhat effective), but his upside is clearly at DLine.

I agree that he is extremely athletic for a 300lb guy but we dont want stand up LB's being somewhat effective. Love this kid and his potential but making plays in space at the collegiate level is another ballgame.

Let's just stop with the "stand up" crap....

He's not playing D1 LB at 300 lbs. Ever. And looking quick on film against HS talent and then trying to catch guys like Devon Gardner are two totally different things.

Note that I said could, not should or would. He's clearly a NT like I said in my post.

I mean people were talking about Manti carrying the ball and I get jumped on for this? Crazy.

It'd be an interesting experiment, but I doubt there is a 300 lb person *in the world* that could play BCS-conference linebacker at a functional level.

I think the closest you'll get is Mario Williams at about 290 as a 'tweener

OK say he doesn't commit to Alabama this upcoming weekend. What would you guys say our chances are? Im going with a 50/50 chance between ND and BAMA

Eddie is not a nose tackle. Eddie could play division one linebacker. I didn't say it would be an AA move on his part.

Obviously someone with what looks to be nearly 4.8 forty speed, is at a disadvantage playing at an elite level. What started this off was: "Eddie could play standup linebacker. He has the speed and agility. He is over 300lbs. " There are a lot of 4.8 sec 40 linebackers out there, but this kids lateral movement is unbelievable. And he is not a nose tackle. Exclusively as a nose tackle would be a waste.

No one need to argue these points or threaten others with negative reps. Everybody needs to just cool down and try to understand one another, shake it out, and realize NSD is a week away. Just relax, all.

And Mario was garbage when he moved to LB in Wade's system last year.

Can't cover. As "quick" as everyone thought he was FOR AN END, was slow for a LBer.

Nobody can hear anybody around here because of the simple aural impediment, they are so full of themselves. Deadens sound waves.

I would get that much more excited if he didn't visit Bama. Maybe I'm crazy but when recruits visit and then don't take another visit they were planning on, I tend to get optimistic.
