Ah that explains it. Allen's a great player and I'm sure no one meant any disrespect. I would LOVE to have gotten him. Hope he has a great career.

You snooze, you lose. The vast majority of these kids have been on campus already, met the coaches, some players and know what ND or the other schools are all about. If this winning continues (and there's no reason not to think so) you'll see this happen more and more. Kids will want to come and will commit earlier. Those that want to play the waiting game or love the attention will get left out.

I was really hoping to get Allen but I have to agree with this statement.

With the amount of information available online about recruiting everyone knows the recruiting situation at every school. If you have an offer and are even moderately interested in a school it's crucial to ask your recruiter what the timeline is like and if it starts getting close to the end sort your options out quickly.

I know making a college decision is a big choice but deciding between 3, 4, 5, or even 10 schools doesn't need to take a year. I think a lot of these kids just wanted to see how ND was going to perform on the field before they committed. I understand that but that's the risk you take.

Yeah, I guess that's right. The only thing I find troubling about decisions being made earlier is that a lot of kids don't have the resources to take visits until they take their OV's, and then they get busy with their HS season so they might not be able to visit till December or January, and by then it is often too late.

But that may be irrelevant here because Allen is apparently not one of those kids; he did take unofficial visits. ND just didn't blow him away I guess.

Odd. Given his connection to OSU, I assumed he was a strong Buckeye lean. Particularly with how hard Meyer has been poaching Oregon recruits.

Ah, I just answered my own question. He clearly didn't have a committable offer from Meyer.

Never loved this kid as much as others. Best of luck to him at Oregon.

He always said if the Ducks offered they would shoot to his top group. Guess 'the top group' meant 'the top of the group'.

I thought it was going to be Stanford after he went through all that to get his application done.

These kids must be really, really confident in thier skills and ability to avoid injury. Could anyone imagine a normal student turning down a free ride to Stanford to go to Oregon. It's not like Stanford stinks at football anymore.

UN-BE-LIEVABLE.

Seriously. Dumb move.

But it means we don't have to play against him, so go Ducks!

Glad he's not at Stanford.... somehow, someway he would've turned into an All-American if he signed there.

He probably cares more about track then anything else which is the reason for selecting Oregon. I know Stanford has a good track program as well, but the Oregon program just has this aura about it.

Wonder what the aura looks like in a job interview? :)

Stanford's degree value is roughly 7x greater than Oregon's. That's a very expensive aura.

He either couldn't pass SU admissions, or he got some very bad advice. Hope it's not the latter, as he attends my (high school) alma mater, and he's coached by our own IrishMoore1.

Please. If he was into track, he'd be taking his talents to Tallahasee.

Stanford v Oregon is not even a comparison academically. I'm pretty surprised he would pick Oregon over Stanford but it isn't unfathomable. The kid has to go where he feels comfortable and Stanford just may not have been the right fit (or he couldn't get in).

Can't you make this argument for pretty much anybody who doesn't pick ND/Stanford/Vandy/Duke (and surprisingly not Northwestern)?

To an extent, but it's usually not this extreme. For Caucasian football players, Stanford offers the best degree value in the nation, while UO is the 6th worst. You rarely see a kid choose a school like UO over Stanford this late in the process; that's why I suspect he couldn't pass SU admissions.
