Seriously though that's just pathetic.

Can someone please clarify this for me. Tonight, Manti said he discovered this was a hoax 2 days ago. That's when the deadspin article broke. I thought he discovered this approx. 10 days after Dec. 6? Just trying to wrap my head around this whole thing; I'm sure I missed something.

Release the phone records. Shut people up once and for all. Words and stories won't convince people. I know we all say that it shouldn't matter what others think...but what is the harm in releasing the phone records showing he was on the phone 8 hours a night w/ this person?

I am behind Manti 100% in whatever he chooses to do.

Was curious why Te'o never visited someone near death in hospital he cared abt so. Hearing "it never really crossed my mind"..WTH?!

A lot of people having a problem with this part (understandably so). But I also understand why he wouldn't visit a girl he hadn't met.

RT confessed..good.

But he was paid!

Honestly the only thing that will fully vindicate Te'o is if the impersonators are criminally prosecuted and convicted. Supposedly the guy did something similar years ago on myspace? Well that is absolute proof right there.

I went to elevenwarriors (a bunch of asshats over there) a few days ago, and in the midst of their Te'o-hatred circlejerk, suggested a story very similar to what Te'o said. A lot of were all "the love of your life and you never meet her! LIES!" but....what if they were only being serious the last six months or so? DUH! I suggested that a guy a spiritual as Te'o would absolutely cling to someone who was in an accident/had cancer. That seems to be the case.

It sounds like the creeps were serial impersonators and the Te'o story didn't seriously fire up until May 2012. That is much more believable--and doesn't make Te'o look nearly as stupid--than thinking there were inseparable for three long years and he never saw her.

Still though SKYPE SKYPE SKYPE.

I think the thing we have to try to remember is that if everything Manti did in this situation made sense we wouldn't be having this conversation. Its unfortunate, but that is how we ended up here. Doesn't mean he was involved in the hoax. Any reasonable interpretation of every piece of info out right now tends to show that he wasn't involved. So if he doesn't want to release his phone records, he shouldn't. As I said before, people are going to believe what they want at this point anyways.

I don't think that's what he said. He said that he really, truly came to terms with the fact that Lennay Kekua is not a real person two days ago. It seems that he knew there was a hoax, but wasn't sure or would not accept the full depth and reality of it all.

My understanding of it is their relationship wasnt serious until after she recovered

So would u leave school/football to fly across the country to see a girl in the hospital that you spoke to occasionally over the Internet? Don't think so.

If they were in relationship before her "accident" then that would be a problem as it seems Feldman thinks that was the case

Please don't bash me for this...but still having some trouble with the narrative. I read a lot of other boards (informative ones) and this is popping up a lot - Swarbrick said Manti was going to talk about the story when he still thought she was real...

I think he meant that Manti was not sure if the girl was real and she was the one hoaxing him... Or something to that effect.

The disheartening thing is that EVERYONE wants to talk about this now, but NOBODY wants to invest the five minutes worth of gathering all the information and really thinking about it that it would take to conclude that he wasn't in on the hoax. Like you pointed out, there are facts that basically prove that he couldn't have been in on it, and nobody talks about those; and the whole thing doesn't quite sound quite AS crazy (still crazy though) when you lay out a fact-based timeline, but its easier for people to say "derr they were super steady for 4 years and they didn't meet? HOAX! derr..." than to think about this stuff fairly.

Because lets be honest: what this is to everyone else is just a weird funny story that lets them make fun of Notre Dame. Nobody REALLY cares enough to think about it critically.

When the story first broke I think everyone here hoped it wasn’t true or that Manti was simply a victim of a cruel hoax and waited to form their opinion until more facts were known. It only gave the haters of Manti and ND the fuel to spew their hate. Now that more facts are coming out and an interview was done we can start to form a better opinion. Did anyone here really think the haters would stop hating? You could almost expect that the haters would claim a cover-up or payoffs any excuse to continue to spew their hate. Jack was right when he said the biggest tragedy was the damage to Mantis’ trust in people. I hope this does not change the terrific person we know Manti to be and it will not change our love for ND.

ESPN altered the story a bit:

A group of people related to Tuiasosopo showed up at the team hotel for the Discover BCS National Championship Game in Miami. Te'o said he knew they were at the hotel because the group took photos in the hotel lobby. Te'o said it affected his play in the game, where Notre Dame lost to Alabama 42-14.

Previously said someone claiming to be Lennay.

Thanks for the explanation; I just missed a few things and my head is spinning.

@HCTI: It's 2:00 am and I'm commenting on this. I've been following this all week. Just because I have less than 10 posts doesn't mean I'm not 100% behind Te'o. I just didn't understand his statement. C'mon man.

It could have been a "final acceptance" sort of thing. "Holding out hope" had ended.

Was it just me or did espn come off looking like a bunch of ambulance chasers who were very disappointed to hear the TRUTH. I'm so glad 'cub reporter Jimmy Olsen' cleared things up for me-really laughing out loud at their comical behavior. What a piece of work they are. Lastly Manti shouldnt have misled Dad-that always comes back to bite you but what else could this kid have done. At least espn can keep their handle of entertainment network because tonight they certainly were tap dancing juggling entertainers. This report by them came off like a Saturday Night skit. Schapp deserves a comedy award for his role as cub reporter jimmy Olsen.

The worst thing about all of this is trying to argue with people who know nothing about it, or say things that they are so convinced are true. "He knew about this on Dec 6th, why was he lying?!?!" "He did this for the heisman and publicity!" etc. etc. etc. Sometimes I engage and when I give them facts, they come with more BS. I have found life to be much easier to ignore these morons and be at peace with what I know, and what we know, and everything will be fine.

Love you guys. Go Irish.

I lol'd:

@PeytonsHead: Manti Te'o allowed @ESPN to interview him, as long as there was no video, and limited audio. So, does this mean he's dating them now.

Not sure I understand this. I'm not a huge Schaap fan because I think he can come off as smug, but I thought he did more tonight to give Manti a fair shake than anyone else has so far. What's your beef with how he handled it?
