Or, maybe they just don't like being railroaded by a 3rd year coach.

Let him walk... Big boy games being played up in this hizzy. If he's got the apples to play hardball against the University of Notre Dame, let him feel the heat back. Put the pressure on. He's no freaking guarantee to land the Philly job.

This has nothing to do with more money for his boys...it has to do with his ego getting stroked. It's becoming very obvious. My opinion, of course.

I think this is where I'm at now with all of this.

That is a reasonable position. This is starting to get silly. When you have a journalist like Jeff Jeffers coming out saying he has never seen anything like this before, than you know something maybe wrong.

That said I will keep the faith and not panic(Not saying you are).

Are you joking?

If he was fighting for the greater good (i.e. coaches, field turf, or whatever crap we can come up with), he'd wage that war in public -- by saying look how close we are!! Instead, there is just silence, while his coaching staff scrambles to keep the current class together. That reeks of selfishness.

That is why I think that there can only be two results to this "standoff"

(1) He is gone; or
(2) He achieves something monumental for the football program.

Anything less, people will be asking why he created such a fuss.

No panic here, bud. Just being a realist.

I don't get this at all. Is he not entitled to try to get what he feels he deserves for his services? I can't get worked up about all of this because I don't think there is any chance he goes anywhere. I don't think the Eagles would ever hire him, and I don't think he would leave Notre Dame to coach the Eagles. He's just trying to get some leverage to whatever extent he can, as anybody in any line of work and anyone in any negotiation would do. I don't like how his agent went through the press, but my sense is that has backfired on them and done more damage to their position than it has to my feelings.

This has been going on for two days, and people act like its the longest most horrible contract negotiation ever. Also, peoples' apparent belief that they are somehow entitled to information is astounding, as if they don't understand that sharing information publicly would damage the negotiation.

Because of the lack of info, people are just projecting their own attitudes and insecurities onto the situation, and in turn its driving people nuts. I don't think that is Kelly's problem. Kelly has to worry about Kelly, not eggshell psyched football fans.

Or a dreaded 3rd result--

He stays...but with some sore feelings and an eye open for another job that becomes available next year, the year after.

The longer it drags out, you are probably right on both sides of the fence. ND will also give him a much shorter leash, knowing that he is just out for the money, and not for the love of the university. I always felt that is why they gave Weis one more year, because he loved the University. Right now, it doesn't look like Brian shares the same belief.

I'm still hoping that there will be a damn good explanation for all of this BS.

He certainly is....as are any of us. It's our right. That said, it's not the University's obligation to wait around and stroke his poke while he's out entertaining other job opportunities. Kelly is a fine coach and did a great job this past season, but, quite frankly, it was his assistants that pulled the apple cart most of the time while he took the credit. Oh, sure he gave some cool locker room speeches and once in a while made a funny in the press, but in the end, it was his assistants (yes, it was under his direction) who did the heavy lifting. Kelly only had to concern himself with when to lift Everett when Tommy was feeling a little down or when to spell Cierre whenever he got tired of watching him dancy-dancy around defensive ends who would smoke him every time he started his "backfield waltz".

This man should not dictate what ND is......ND dictates who he his and he adapts. I thought that was one of the things that made ND special...you don't change it, it changes you.

Sheessh, BK has really gone off the deep end if he thinks that getting to the NCG makes him entitled.

WINNING IT DOES, you moron...and even then, only for so long. You wanna be a legend in college or a flop in the NFL?

Make your choice and stick to it this time.

As an Eagles fan and season ticket holder ( 9 year waiting list) 4 years with tickets, I've been watching their head coaching search everyday since they fired Reid and its driving me crazy as this Brian Kelly interview is driving you guys crazy.
The 2 college guys they interviewed before Brian Kelly were Bill O'Brien from Penn St and Chip Kelly. O'Brien was only at Penn St for a year before he decided to interview with the Eagles and Browns and he had a 9 million dollar buyout before he could even leave Penn St for another coaching job, obviously he stayed at Penn St. As for Chip Kelly, he interviewed last year with Tampa Bay and this year with the Eagles and Browns. He does seem ingested in an NFL head coaching job and if San Diego came calling he might have left. San Diego has the nice weather and a decent QB in Philip Rivers, the Eagles and Browns, have slop. I'm sure you guys know that the NFL isn't a coach driven league, its a QB driven league, if you don't have Rodgers, Brady, Manning, or Mannings, Bree's, etc.., you don't get very far, and Philly is Superbowl or bust to the fans. Win a Superbowl in Philly and you might get that statue in front of the stadium, but if you lose well ask Andy Reid, heck ask Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, if he strikes out in the 8th to 9th inning in a close ball game, he got booed.

I think you guys are safe with BK, can I call him that? Anyway in the NFL teams can interview coaches who are in the playoffs but they can't hire them, the Eagles last week interviewed Mike McCoy from the Broncos but they can't even offer him a job until the Broncos are out of the playoffs, same for Gus Bradley, from the Seahawks, he is the one the fans want. As for Jay Gruden being interviewed on Monday, don't read into that too much, the Browns had other coaches scheduled for interviews and they came out of nowhere and hired Rob Chudinski, whatever his name is.

Most of us aren't pulling to steal your coach, developing 18-21 year olds is different from coaching millionaire 27 year olds. Plus he doesn't have any NFL experience, unlike Harbaugh and Carroll who had some. At least a Chip Kelly made it known he would interview with the NFL, so did O'Brien but O'Briens excuse were the sanctions handed down by the NCAA that he didn't know about, he got a raise out of interviewing so good for him. But this nonsense with BK is just unbelievable he had to schedule this interview before the BCS championship so he probably knew about it late last Saturday or early Sunday, right after Chip Kelly spurned the Eagles. He then interviews with the Eagles and leaves the country with the only report that he will talk to the Eagles when he gets back? WTF does that mean, the administration at Notre Dame had to know, the Eagles might be doing him a favor or his agent a favor, it happens alot in MLB but it does happen in the NFL as well. I just don't get leaving the Notre Dame fans and recruits in limbo for this long and what it proves, other than he left Cincy at the drop of a hat and he'll leave Notre Dame the same way, and why 24 hours after his team lost the BCS championship.

I can't tell you guys to relax cause I can't either, but if he come's here know that if he stinks he will get crushed and run away like alot of coaches and players have, it's just our way ask Andy Reid. Although I don't see it happening, what he is doing is crappy. Until he decides, I'll keep you guys posted on the Eagles coaching search.

All of that may be true, to some degree or another, but after almost 20 years ND has finally found someone who can win here. Why not pay him a fair wage? Doing so doesn't mean that one guy is bigger than the program or the school, or that the school was dictated to. Paying people what they are worth doesn't make you weak. The shame of it to me is that he felt he had to do this to get what he deserves.

Also, I think its a little revionist and petty to suddenly take the position that "Kelly ain't **** and it was all the assistants" when he does something you don't like.

I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't get why people are taking a contract negotiation so personally.

There should be a thread for those of you who are denouncing your respect for BK and no post should be deleted so we can all reflect on it in a week from now.

I was more speaking on my behalf.... (selfish me....) lol

It just seems like some of these comments are exactly the same as they were when the story first broke.

I guess, as devout irish fan as I/we am/are that it would be hard to still be that worked up about a report with little to back it up.

Especially when an organization known for running with a story until my def grandma finally hears about it practically stops coverage on the story.

Hcti, i beg the differ.

Then tell me that I am wrong that winning the national title, and you know actually having the team PREPARED for its biggest game in a quarter century, would not give you the leverage you really need to get things done?

After the year ND had, we laid an egg bigger than any game I have seen in my 30 years of being an Irish fan.

He is being unbelievably arrogant to think that he deserves a fat raise after the way he put himself above the team and the university for the last month.

I don't want a coach who does not want to be here, because if you love this university, it will be good to you FOREVER.

BK should just move out of his home and be done with it, if this is just a money grab.

Onward to another coach, I guess.

And FWIW, I have not posted all day, so for me to hear that things have gotten WORSE is highly disheartening.

I am not freaking out. I am just saying the fact is that BK put himself first and it has come back to bite him in the arse twice already this week.

Well, now it is Sat here so I am going to bed now.

What a depressing week, to say the very least.

Folks, let me get this straight with you once and for all..

I don't begrudge Kelly for going out and making a better man of himself....Making more money in a high profile job should be an aspiration for all of us I guess. Maybe not all, but I'm guessing most of us.

It's been my contention all along and continues to be how he's handled this whole ordeal and leaves his incoming recruiting class out to dry. That is all.....It has nothing to do with the job he has done to date nor do I dislike the man. I think he's a great coach. That said, and this is my opinion only, I think his priorities are way out of whack here based on timing and approach. I hope to God that this has everything to do with he and his assistants getting their just due, but with each and every passing second, minute, hour and day....it's starting to look like it has nothing to do with that. Kelly's playing his game and Jack is playing his....End of story. If that means that they part ways and end their relationship and go their own ways, I'm fine with that. Some of you keep telling me how smart you are with business and negotiating.....Well, in my opinion, Notre Dame is only going to eat so much crap before they tell this guy to take a walk. Every negotiation has a tipping point....right, Lax? Now we'll see how serious everyone is and who's got the biggest pair.

At your expense, of course. "Incidentals" not included. Results (sorta) guaranteed.
