wow what an honor, with all those great players! Way to go Hunter!

So glad to hear how well our linemen are doing! We need them next year.

Bivin, Elmer and McGlinchey are all getting rave reviews, and Montelus at least is physically college ready, although apparently he struggled a little in one-on-ones (but who doesn't struggle against Bigelow). Very exciting.

hes also been hurt

Per Herm Edwards:

On four-star offensive tackle Hunter Bivin of Owensboro (Ky.) Apollo, a Notre Dame commit --
"He's a good player. He's actually our best offensive lineman. We've talked about having him playing tackle (Bivin is at center this week)."

Herm I guess said to Keith Niebuhr of 247 that Bivin is one of the top 5 players down there.

Nothing can compare to the Stanford oline class of last year though.

I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see how they pan out...

You're right though, as far as rankings go, that OL class has to be one of the best all-time.

...which, if they pan out, should end the debate over how long stanford stays elite. Not sure if thats a good thing or not.

I hate to be unbiased and all, but Texas' offensive line class is the cream of the crop. I love our guys, but the ratings favor the Longhorns big time.

Ohio State had a scary offensive line class in like 2006 or something. I think they had three five-star lineman.

You're right though, as far as rankings go, that OL class has to be one of the best all-time.

Stanford's 2012 OL class:
Kyle Murphy - 5:s:, 0.9933 rating
Andrus Peat - 5:s:, 0.9847 rating
Josh Garnett - 4:s:, 0.9817 rating
Graham Shuler - 4:s:, 0.9057 rating
Brandon Fanaika - 4:s:, 0.8953 rating
Nick Davidson - 3:s:, 0.8811 rating
Johnny Caspers - 3:s:, 0.8382 rating

AVERAGE RATING - 4:s:, 0.9257

Notre Dame's 2013 OL Class:
Hunter Bivin - 4:s:, 0.9500 rating
Steven Elmer - 4:s:, 0.9370 rating
John Montelus - 4:s:, 0.9340 rating
Colin McGovern - 4:s:, 0.9270 rating
Mike McGlinchey - 4:s:, 0.9027 rating

AVERAGE RATING - 4:s:, 0.9301

Ergo, ND's 2013 OL class is superior to SU's 2012 OL class. Sherm is embarrassingly wrong, and should apologize immediately.

Yeah those stats show Stanford's class is better. SU just had two extra guys than us that were ranked lower. Their top 5 > Our top 5

Stanford had 3 OLs ranked highest than our best...

Yeah those stats show Stanford's class is better. SU just had two extra guys than us that were ranked lower. Their top 5 > Our top 5

First, I was being semi-facetious.

Second, it's still true that our 2013 OL class has a higher average rating than Stanford's 2012 OL class. They had 3 OL ranked higher than our best (Bivin) and three ranked lower than our worst (McGlinchey). Larger disparity in quality. They also brought in 7 OL in that one class, which is never ideal.

Do I honestly think our 2013 class is better than their 2012 class? No. Murphy, Peat and Garnett are already playing, and will likely be 3-4 year starters for Stanford. But with the 85 scholarship limit, efficiency is important, so our current OL class (with its higher average rating) is definitely better in that regard.

The fact that we're even comparing our O-line haul to Stanford's of last year is amazing. That class was unreal.

Interesting fact, I believe all of our O-line commits committed BEFORE we tore it up this year. Obviously recruits became more interested in us as we excelled on the field, but the staff sold our program to these O-line before anyone knew that would happen. Excellent job to all involvved.

Let's see what bumps our guys get after all this.

Right, this discussion may be a little premature. Not that I necessarily think any of our guys are going to get boosted to five-star range or anything, but I'm pretty sure Elmer and McGlinchey will get bumps. Elmer is criminally underrated by 247, and McGlinchey has drawn rave reviews at Semper Fi. Bivin has drawn raves at UA but he is already pretty highly rated.

Nkemdiche is a monster, but both Grant Hill and Bivin look real solid holding their own.

Bivin was definitely one of, if not the most impressive offensive linemen in that video. I was surprised Pocic got dominated a couple times as well.

Nice Video Defense has a huge advantage on that. No run assignment. Pin the ears back and go after it.

They should have a run blocking drill to see if the DL can handle the OL going at them.
