“@NDatRivals: Who has "jumped out" at Brian Kelly in bowl practices? Kelly notes Jarrett Grace, Jarron Jones. "There was a number of guys."”

“@NDatRivals: Asked if he thought he could get to a national championship game in three years, "I didn't think that we couldn't."”

Good grief.....they were immediately annointed a member of the NCG after K-State and Oregon lost, and there was no debate whatsoever if they didn't deserve it over the others. Hell, there were many people saying how they were more deserving than ANYONE, ND included. Whoever posted that is trying to stir up the players.

*Gimme a break, Bama gets more love/respect than anyone, and until they fall on a big stage, it was earned.

LOL I know some SEC homers (not gonna call them Bama fans because that is an insult to Bama fan) that are saying that people are picking the Irish because that's all ESPN is talking about. ND this, ND that. I asked one if this is the same ESPN I used to watch? I am growing tired of arguing about it. Play the game and then analyze it. I can't say with any certainty the Irish win but I can say I don't see them losing by 30 like I was told earlier.

Worst part of such a long layoff:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and unfortunately, some people that are idiots like to share theirs, and there's no way to refute said opinion until the game is over. Another week and a half, keep on trucking boys!

Or even worse, one of the idiots is right, and we have to watch a team lose 56-3. That would be such a waste.

You know I was thinking, we could all show up at Rocky's work about noon, and kidnap him. Rocky could buy the beer. We could force him to stay with us and watch the game. Send a ransom note to the local beer dock. Only release him after roughing him up a little, after a ND victory, (just to get the autistic component, I mean the artistic component handled.)

What do you think Rocky? Good Idea? We will do almost anything for beer and a ND win.

I'm in. It's all worth it. Every cent I'd spend, every drip I'd drink, every thump I'd receive, and most especially every Irish score I'd see. Let's do it!

Anyone know why the National Championship is traditionally played on a Monday night? I have always found this ridiculous, especially when it lasts until midnight or later.

I'm not against a full slate of games on NEW YEARS DAY again. That felt like you were high on crack flipping through channels all day long. So much fun.

Yeah, New Year's Day used to be the best. Now they have the BCS games spread out so much that the New Year's Day slate of games is typically just so-so. I think I remember reading that once the four-team playoff kicks in, some of these better games will move back to New Year's Day. Anyone know whether that is accurate?

I think it has to do with ratings. Typically, people are home on Monday nights.

I have a question for you guys. Of the top teams, who did you want to play in the title game?

I think most bama fans wanted ND simply because of the history.

I would rather play a team that doesn't have cheating practices and horrible management of students. Stanford maybe.

NFL playoffs are on the Saturday and Sunday before... the NCAA doesnt want to compete with the NFL head-on. This year, the NCAA may have won, but they set this date long before they knew who would be playing in it.

Pretty amazing stat about Bama's running game in this article: On 35.1% of their designed runs, the RB has gotten at least 5 yards before being touched. I cannot wait to see our D against their running game. It's a matchup for the ages.

NCAAF Alabama's RB duo surges to South Beach - ESPN

The hype is a match up for the ages. But im really not sure if we'll be able to keep up for all four quarters.

Just read that a couple of minutes before you posted it. It is indeed going to be a matchup for the ages. The irresistible force meets the immovable object. Our running game is brutal and can wear you down. Your D is built to stop it and the best we'll face all year. Big, fast, shifty backs with great blocking vs big, fast, tough defensive players who don't miss their assignments. A train wreck, Ali/Frazier III, and the Crimean War all rolled into one. I can't wait.

If you can stop our running game early or get the lead and force us to pass more instead of being able to just pound you relentlessly with the run, I think you'll win. If we can establish the run early on and keep wearing you down with it, the 4th quarter may get ugly for you and we'll take the hardware home.

what'd those look like against MI, LSU, UGA, and Texas A&M.... They are talented, and as good a team as we've seen, but their stats don't mean anything because they played a weak schedule across most of the season.

Bama's and ND's SOS is about the same this season, as WhiskeyJack pointed out yesterday - both in the mid 30's.

Against Michigan, Lacy and Yeldon averaged 7.3 ypc.

Against LSU they averaged 7.3 ypc.

Against Texas A&M they averaged 4.7 ypc.

Against Georgia they averaged 7.4 ypc.

Against weaker teams, they were both usually on the bench by the third quarter instead of padding their stats.

I believe it was played on Tuesday night last year. It was weird, but at least we were entertained on Sunday night by the Saints versus Lions game. We tried to get tickets for it while in New Orleans, but Who 'Dat Nation was in full force ...

Time on the field is virtually meaningless to "average", so lets get beyond that. Those are really good numbers...no doubt, and those are really good RBs...no doubt.

As well I thought the comment was about getting five yards before initial contact...I'd gather that didn't happen alot against the teams I mentioned, and isn't likely to happen often against ND.

You said their stats were meaningless because we played a weak schedule. I pointed out that they didn't play much against weaker opponents. You asked what they did against the better teams on our schedule and I gave you their ypc against the 4 teams you asked about. As for whether they got 5 yds before contact against those teams, it looks like they may have. Their average ypc against 3 of those 4 teams was significantly higher than their season average of 6.6, so it's likely they did. It's looks as if they ran as well or better against the top defenses they faced as against everyone else. Now, will ND shut them down? Who knows. They're good backs and you have a good D. We'll see in a week.
