well, IMO, Kelly would not "keep" any of his coaches from a career enhancing/fufilling position such as a HC. If the right opportunity came along, it seems to me that he would not want to keep his guys from taking full advantage of it. Kelly seems to be the type of leader who trains his staff to take that next level-commendable IMO.

Assistant Coaches moving on and advancing in their own careers is a good thing. It means the program is doing well. BK isn't going to the NFL. Diaco is going to move on if he gets the right opportunity. BK will make the next great hire for us at DC.

Besides throwing more money at him, I don't know what else Kelly could do to keep Diaco at ND... aside from naming him "Head Coach in Waiting" like Brown did with Muschamp at UT. That at least assured that Muschamp didn't jump until he received an offer he couldn't refuse (the Florida job).

Right. And you don't name a "head coach in waiting" when you've only been on the job three years and are relatively young yourself. Even "throwing more money at him" is only so effective. I mean, most of these guys earn more money than they have time to spend anyway.
No, the only thing that'll determine how long Diaco stays at ND is Diaco. Hopefully he decides he'd like to be here a few more years.

Well BK is 10 years younger than Mack so it'd be quite a long wait behind BK.

I think Diaco stays until mission is accomplished, which is National Title.

If they accomplish that mission this year he can go wherever he likes.

The opportunities this year don't strike me as great though.

plus, I think Diaco will have to hone his head coaching skills at a lesser D1 school first. Like a cincinatti, thats why BC makes sense, Not many top tier schools hand the keys to their programs over to coordinators.

Or he could do what Muschamp did at Texas; stay as the top coordinator at a national powerhouse until a blue chip coaching offer comes along. Few people have the opportunity to jump right to the top of the college coaching world, but Diaco could do it if he sticks around for 3-5 years and build a defensive dynasty at ND.

Thoughts?

Brian Kelly is the best NFL coach on the market. Polian and Kelly would be a great move by the Chiefs.

If Brian Kelly goes to the NFL I give the entire board permission to dissapprove my reputation.

Kelly's been a college coach his entire career. He's never even worked as an assistant in the NFL. I don't see him jumping to the League when he's poised on the edge of immortality in South Bend.

That said, I'm sure a few NFL owners are willing to throw a lot more cash at Kelly than he's currently making. Tough to turn down millions of dollars.

If Brian Kelly left what he has built at ND for the "dumpster fire" that is the Kansas City Chiefs...I'd be SHOCKED! The only job I could see him having interest in is the Patriots because of his Boston roots. Luckily for us that job isn't opening anytime soon.

But you have to think that ND will match those millions... How much money (profit) have me made this year? Has to be a crazy high amount.

I don't think he's going to leave but it's interesting Whitlock has Brian Kelly as his best NFL coach on the market. I just don't see Kelly going to the pro's with the way things are going with Notre Dame.

Why would you be following Whitlock on twitter? He is the definition of a hack.

CBS writer Gregg Doyel (who I usually like) called ND fans "delusional" or some such term yesterday on Twitter for thinking he won't leave for the NFL at some point.

I tweeted him and asked him why he had to create a panic, but got no response.

I will remain delusional. The NFL is a pig product. No effing way Kelly would ever entertain the NFL given the opportunities he has at ND. I am on record and will remain there.

BK will definitely be able to write his own check, especially when we win in 3 weeks. i believe they gave him a one year extension in the off season, correct? taking him through 2015 if im not mistaken. my question: does swarbrick go with the "weis extension" after this year?

If your face turns red when you yell can't coach in the NFL

Seriously speaking though you have to have a certain tempermant to coach at certain level. From kids to pros. I'm not Kelly has the temperment for the NFL.

Did he mean Chip Kelly?

I just don't see BK in that role.

Why is anyone listening to whitlock , thats just useless. Clearly he meant Chip Kelly who has all the talk about the NFL for weeks now--hell since last year. Anybody who thinks Brian will be going to the NFL is just suffering from paranoia. NOT going to happen.

I've been saying this for a while. Kelly is a perfect college coach, the type of 'rah-rah' guy that can pump kids up and make them run through a wall. As well as the kind of guy that can go into a recruits home and appeal to their Mom and Dad.

He's just not the kind of guy for the NFL though. (IMO)
