Would it make this the most least active thread ever in a commitment lol?
Williams' composite score is 0.8609. That would make him the lowest ranked player in our class.
Since we don't need bodies at WR or DB, I'm puzzled as to why the staff continues to pursue him.

I think they like his versatility on the field and his character and academics off the field, so they figure he is a good backup plan if they end up with an extra spot. He says that he and Booker have grown really close during the recruiting process.
If there is an open spot I would take him.I will agree that he is a back up plan but it seems I like this kid a lot more than most.

Good thing we trust in our coaches ability to rank talent and not rivals, scout, espn, etc...
I present you, Tyler Eifert... 3* Recruit who just one the Mackey over
Logan Thomas 4*
Arthur Lynch 4*
Philip Lutzenkirchen 4*
Levine Toilolo 4*
Dion Sims 4*
+ 18 other 3* recruits that were ranked above Eifert.... Also, keep in mind this doesn't include any tight ends that were not apart of Eiferts 2009 recruiting class...
What if we don't fill that spot next year? i hate not having a full 85 scholarships. Why? (1) We're full at WR and DB; (2) he'd be the lowest rated recruit in our class; and (3) the scholarship would be better spent on a marginal 5Y, thereby saving a spot in the 2014 class.
That would make normally make sense, but since our 2014 class is projected to be pretty small as it is, I'd be more inclined to save the scholarship. That is, unless the staff thinks this guy is seriously underrated.
Consider the Calabrese v. Fox debate. There's no doubt in my mind that a 5Y for Calabrese would be a better idea than taking Williams.
I didn't question the staff's competence as talent scouts; I simply stated that their continued pursuit of Williams was puzzling to me, for the reasons I listed.
Then Sherm and Lucci both said that they'd take him. I asked them what their reasons were for that. That's a reasonable topic for discussion on a fan message board, no?
Lastly, pointing out one of the rare recruits who has wildly outperformed expectations doesn't invalidate recruit rankings. There are exceptions to every rule.

Kid seems like a versatile athlete and a great human being. Even if he only plays special teams his entire career, he would be a great asset to the team just for being a team player and great person. These are the type of young men you want in your locker room.
Whiskey you are looking at it solely by numbers and math, not looking at what else the person can bring to the team and the university.
Just wondering what did you get your degree in at ND? Accounting? finance? Mathematics? Statics?
Nice congrats on being an attorney. I was way off.Is this really a concern, since the 2014 class will likely only have room for ~18 kids?
I was curious why you and Lucci liked him. Why do you think he's a "great human being"?
You know I'm big on objective analysis. Three (relatively) objective stats-- our current scholarship #s at WR & DB, our projected class size for 2014, and Williams' rankings-- indicate that this would be a strange commitment to accept.
You're apparently very big on Williams' quality as an individual. I know nothing about him other than the statistics above and his film. That's why I asked what you liked about him.
Political Science, which is why I'm now an attorney.

What's your specialty?
Transactional stuff: estate planning, probates, business law, entity formation, etc.
Top 4 Oregon, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Florida State and announce on Jan. 28
Doubt Oregon would take him if it's true that they only have one more spot. He is where on our list? 6 at the highest,8-9 more likely? A lot would have to not happen for us to take him, right?
Edit: with that said, there is something about this kid that I really like. I would be excited if he ended up Irish
Oregon has 11 commits. How are they full?
