3 spots now. If Jamel James decommits like I expect him to, we could realistically finish with Redfield, Bryant, AQM, and Folston.

+ a surprise. I almost guarantee we'll get a surprise commit. I mean, with in the last two weeks, LaRue and Eddie V have made plans to visit. Then there's that DE from Georiga who was listed as interested yesterday. There will be a big surprise, imo.

Yeah and that bothers me A LOT. Especially since so many all talking about how this opens up another scholarship for a better player.

I don't like the thought that we pushed him out to make room for other players. But I am ok if the coaches said, "we have guys that are higher on our board and you're welcome to stay...but just know that it'll be an uphill battle." But TP didn't make it sound like that.

Hey, Rack, bud,

I think there have been too many cynical viewpoints expressed throughout this process. If we talked to an Irish staffer, they would probably feel that if you weren't there you couldn't get it right by filling in the blanks. I bet that the coaching staff made their position plenty clear to recruits over the past several years, if not since Darby, Decker, and that other D-you-know-what. I bet that the rule was clear; if you look, we look. Kelly, two time coach of the year, has his detractors. But nobody accuses him of being unclear. This probably started with the recruit. That is why it was so slow. I would feel intimidated by the talent with this class. I personally didn't like how it was always about how the family felt about going to ND, not about how Danny felt. And there seems to be nowhere in the US as far from ND as the Pacific Northwest. I don't know why that is. So I think this is something that ended up going the distance because everybody had honor, and ended as more of a relief.

As for comments of posters, sometimes it is best not to comment, because anything you say looks insensitive, but I think those were the honest feelings of some posters that felt some loss. That's all I got, dude.

Bogs, out!

We wouldn't have room for a surprise in the scenario he described.

Where is the flashing blue light? This year's surprise recruit rumor has started already!

I know this isn't going to be a popular view here, but I'm ecstatic this is over. Danny is a nice little player and I wish him the best, but others here were obviously much more impressed with him than I was. He wasn't needed anymore and there are bigger fish in the sea at this point.

I'm not ecstatic but I just can't bring myself to care. He'll be replaced by a better prospect. No disrespect to the kid, but it's the truth. Good luck!

We're very likely to gain 1-2 more spots via medical scholarships as well. I'd put the O/U at 5 right now.

Later, Danny. I don't wish you any luck because I believe that you made a bad decision and passed up the opportunity of a lifetime(especially with how we've played this year).

But hey, I'm sure you'll get to play for a 7-5 team somewhere......Say hi to Aaron Lynch for us.

Now to add another elite guy.

Your right, there does seem to be some fuzziness around what came first.

I believe it was the chicken. Or wait, was it the egg? I can never remember.

There are always so many variables that come into play. It could be that they were recruiting him as an LB, but told him they might look at him at TE after practices started, so he committed. Maybe some other schools got in his ear and told him they would take him as a TE so he started having second thoughts. I don't think competition would be the factor, because he's going to have it everywhere.

Trust me, ND isn't for everyone. I know many who have transferred after thinking it was their life's dream, because they didn't fit.

I think it was a matter of the guy seeing the studs coming in and wondering if he would ever get to see the field...which is a very valid concern for him looking at the studs ND have coming in. No one wants to ride the pine and honestly, at the schools hes looking at, he would have a much better chance to play.
Succinct and to the point appraisal of the competition situation. Opportunity to play has him looking elsewhere.

Don't think that's true at all. Christian on ISD has been tapped into this since the beginning and believes its a combination of wanting to play TE and distance.

Sorry, but the writing was on the wall for Mattingly. With the talent that we have coming in at the LB position it would be hard for him to crack the top 2 at any point in his career.

Regardless the reason sorry to lose someone who had been in the fold, I want everyone to see what I see in Notre Dame, but obviously everyone can't.

Ridiculous statement.

"He (might be) gone. [Insert justification here]." Just stop it. You sound like a jilted ex.

Shut the front door on your way out, please.

Don't come back if you're going to make ridiculous statements like that.

I guess my thoughts were accurate.

Read the thread. Your thoughts are not accurate.

May I ask why you think that you were accurate? How does deciding to go somewhere else give credence to your theory that he "isn't the kind of kid" who would flourish here?

I think the people who responded were taking exception with your baseless characterization of the kid in this way. Let me double down on that.
