Woodson started his Heisman with sweeping these awards. Manti's count: Best linebacker and best defensive player are not minor. Sportsmanship award doesn't have the clout yet, but they obviously do it when they anounce the award to influence the Heisman.[/QUOTE

Yeah the sportsmanship award is a nice feather in your cap when going for the Heisman. I don't know if he will get the nod or not to be honest with you, but Manti really does deserve it! If its ever going to happen, this is the year!

If you notice, a lot of the votes they have in already are mainly from the south and I don't think I saw any former Heisman winners votes on there. So let's hope that Manti can get a bunch of votes from the west and past winners!

who do you think O.J. Simpson is voting for?

I'm surprised that they are leaving Te'o and Klein off of some of these ballots. You'd think Te'o and Klein would be getting more 3rd place votes then what they are. The old fellas that they are saying the would leave a freshman off, must not have turned thier ballots in very eary or pretty quite about it. Manti will make up a little bit of the gap, but I just don't think he'll get it.

Even thought Manti is the definition of the what the Heisman Trophy is about, well according to the Heisman Trust definition. The meaning now is who has the best stats and flashiest player.

That means no Heisman curse for Manti when he gets to the big leagues and Johnny Football will possibly get arrested, again, and lead the SEC in turnovers next year.

I'm going through the list clicking on the names that are clickable because it leads directly to the article/tweet that the person reveals who they voted for. I clicked on Brandon Marcello and he says he will reveal who he voted for after the ceremony yet Stiff Arm Trophy lists Manziel as a #1 for his slot. Am I missing something?

I'm seeing that too. One guy voted for Montee Ball #1. Stuff like that drives me nuts. There should be a vote on who the finalists should be and then vote for those 3. One guy had Manziel, Klein, and Jarvis Jones. Two had Marquise Lee. Just wasted votes.

I don't think it's a perfect science. Good catch though. Hopefully there are more mistakes in our favor

Based on the way this site works, they are collating all of the publicly declared votes, but not everyone indicates who their #2 or #3 are. An example is Blevins: he tweeted that the Heisman trust prefers that voters do not declare their votes, but "JFG (Johnny FootBall) is hard to tackle; Sooners get their chance"; he doesn't state who is his 2 and 3, so I apparently that they just count a #1 vote for Manziel

This stiffarm website has a lot of #1s for Manziel but doesnt have a 2nd or 3rd place vote on those ballots.... so they're giving 3 points to Manziel but 0 to Manti from those ballots.

Also, a lot of the current publicized votes have been because of campaigning. There are like 900 votes for the Heisman.

I think it'll continue to get closer.

I am telling you guys, picking the Heisman vote for at leasth one site is all about trying to bolster their credibility for picking JM early.

USA today shows something entirely different.

First of all, I love that this thread was started in september. That is awesome! Secondly, I'm hoping (even though this might not be right) that all the previous ND winners will put Manti #1 and leave JF off their ballots. And again, I know that is probably wrong but I think Manti deserves it way more than JF and it would be a shame to lose to him, of all people.

I would imagine they'd give Manti a #1 pick and not give Manziel one to help equal the score between both.

I"m kind of suprised that a few guys didn't get a little more recognition but I guess thats what ESPN does. They highlight who they like and it falls from there, ie Geno Smith in first 3 weeks.

Not to rain too much on the Heisman parade in general but about 5 years ago i realized the entire Heisman voting system is a complete joke. i worked at a small newspaper who covers local sports and not college football. It was discovered that a guy on the staff who hadn't covered a college football game in 30 years still had a Heisman vote and he revealed who he had voted for in the past. It was usually obscure guys like an offensive lineman no one had ever heard of.

When some reporters heard of this they decided they, too, wanted to get Heisman votes. So they applied for one. I figured they would be laughed at and never get a vote. The one guy was an assistant nighttime local sports editor and never covered games and by his own decision would write college football columns once a week. The other guy would occasionally cover college football games for an average team from a mediocre conference and was in his first season doing so and fresh out of college. I was shocked when they were promptly awarded votes.

I hope Manti gets it and thinks he deserves it more than Manziel by far. To me, though, the best college football player in the nation this year is Marqise Lee followed by Manti followed by Jarvis Jones or Colin Klein. If you look at stats Lee is far superior to Manziel. If youre looking at the best player from a Top 5 team in the nation then it's Manti clearly.

But if manti doesn't get the award let's just remember that while there are some really qualified voters for this trophy, there's also complete jokes like the ones I listed above.

Alabama center Barrett Jones wins Campbell Trophy -- the academic Heisman. #NotreDame's Te'o was a finalist.

Congrats to Barrett! He's a good kid and part of a great o-line.

Agreed, and not to get too far off the thread, but Barrett can not handle Nix alone... No center has this year...

"IF" Nix can require a double team here and there, hopefully per series, and control the gap our LBs will have a lights out night.

That's all we can ask for.

Anything above and beyond will be phenomenal as we are playing the best OL in CFB.
