Vanderdoes

And one of either:

What a dreamy end to this season.

It's the first Wednesday in February. I am imagining with you, it's glorious!

Who we do end up with is anyone's guess but we damn sure couldn't be in a better position to finish stronger than 2011. That was the Mecca of classes in my book!

I think we finish top class consensus.

Anyone else?

Hope he's assuming AQM is a silent and therefore already part if the class, otherwise wtf?

And for the record, I don't buy he's a silent commit at all.

Rutgers not going to a BCS bowl ought to help with the New Jersey boys for sure.

This class is better.

I was happy with our current class but with a couple possible departures I love that the guys we may be replacing them with are beasts

i love these types of discussion:

i think we end up with:
AQM
Redfield
and one of bryant/folston

(and "lose" mattingly and james)

and in other matters:
c wood gone
both carlo and fox come back

In that case, we've got at least one more spot, and probably a 5th due to Nichols' inability to stay healthy. So you've got to pick #s 4 and 5 as well.

Well it looks like we just our space for the Dream Team. AQM, Redfield, Bryant, and Vanderdoes. #onecandream.

But in all seriousness I hope that Danny and Jamel have very successful careers wherever they end up.

My class grades so far:

QB: normal need: A
RB: strong need: D (possibly nobody!)
WR: strong need: A- (great, quality depth, but no superstar)
OL: strong need: A+ (I know there are higher rated guys out there, but I love ours)
TE: normal need: A- (great pick-up, but we are spoiled here at Heuerman Univ.!)

ST: normal need: C (good call not to panic and sign someone)

S: slight need: C (This changes to an A with Redfiled)
CB: strong need: B+ (I love who we got, but still no one intimidating)
MLB: strong need: A
OLB: strong need: A+
DE: strong need: A (this changes to an A+ with AQM)
DT: normal need: C

Overall: A- so far. This class will get high rankings, deservedly so, but I think we really need a big-time RB, a big-time WR, 2 big-time CBs, and 2 big-time DEs to be a great class. If everything finishes as expected, I'd give this an A. But I reserve the A+ for a class with a true nose tackle!

My class grades so far:

QB: normal need: B+ - and rising
RB: strong need: F - we have to pick up TF (B), TI(A), or GB (A)
WR: strong need: B+ - B+ due to depth, with A+ potential
OL: strong need: A+ - all going to a post season showcase. Would have like to see a true C
TE: normal need: B+ - could have gone A but the loss of potential depth with DM hurts a tiny bit

ST: normal need: D - need a good foot. Not a huge failure, just is what it is for ST

S: normal need: D - not a have to have, but we need a good one. A with MR
CB: strong need: B - great potential, but would love to get a lock down. A+ with another stud.
MLB: strong need: B
OLB: strong need: A+
DE: strong need: B+ - this changes to an A with AQM
DT: strong need: F - A+ if we pick up EV. We will need to overload 2014 if nothing this year IMO.

Overall: B+ so far.

Off: B+ so far - QB with tremendous upside, depth and serious stud potential at WR, quality TE, terrific OL haul makes for a well rounded O with the exception of RB. TI or GB would push the O to A+, and overall to A

Def: B so far - Potential at DBs, but no studs out of the gate for this haul. MR, MA, or PW could push the DBs over the line. DE will be super with AQM. DT IMO was a big need which we'll likely overload on next cycle if EV can't be captured. Huge OLB gets, medium ILB, but overall LB rating is incredible. Would love to be surprised and pick up IS. Picking up AQM and MR pushes the D to an A, and A overall.

I'm confused by some of these grades. How is QB anything but an A+? Kelly convinced the #1 dual threat QB to be the 5th man on our roster at the position, behind talents like Golson and Kiel.

Low grades at RB? With our current commits, we're already 7/8 at RB/ Z WR. Not exactly a position of "need" as far as depth goes. Our RBs are light on experience, but there's a ton of potential there between Carlisle, GAIII, McDaniel and Mahone. Not to mention that we're still in contention for several elite RBs.

Low grades for ST? The only specialist one could even make an argument for this year is a Punter, and since the staff decided to pass on one, Brindza must be looking pretty good in practice. There are plenty of teams who don't carry 4 specialists on scholarship, so there's no reason to fault our staff for this; particularly with the scholarship crunch this year and next.

The only position for which the staff deserves an arguably low grade is DT.

Edit: I forgot Safety. With the 3 CBs we have coming in, Shumate very likely moves back to S in 2013. That puts us at 7/8. Still lacking star power, but fine on depth. Redfield will top us off perfectly. Certainly not deserving of a low grade.

I give BK and A+ for getting MZ, but MZ right now relative to this class IMO is B+. #1 dual, debatable. IMO 1 or 2. Why I say B+ is the film I watched early on (very inconsistant in terms of accuracy) gave me pause. What I've seen since shows incredible improvement, hence the B+. I'm overall a hard grader. No trophs from me for participation. Regarding special teams, IMO we should be looking for that stud leg either this year (would have been nice) or scramble next year. No big deal, but I'm huge on ST. It's an area (not just kicking) I think too many teams de-prioritize. I'm actually more concerned about coverage on KO/Ps, and blocking KO/P returns. Assuming we take the redshirt off some of the CBs, I'll be happy if we can get a frew more fast, hard hitting, hungry young kids gunning down folks.

Zaire's composite rank on 247 is #1 dual-threat QB; 247 has him at #6.

Let me turn it around on you. Which QB could Kelly have recruited to get an A+ from you? A very talented RS freshman just led us to the title game, there's a 5:s: #1-ranked QB sitting behind him, and this year's veteran #2 is returning in 2013. That depth chart is tough to sell to any top QB, since early playing time probably isn't happening. I don't think we could have done better this year.

Great point Whiskey! Zaire is very highly ranked compared to Mr Golson. You couldn't ask for a better prospect in this situation. Plus Zaire gets the benefit of not being thrown into the fire with the quality depth at the QB position.

You are money today brother!

I think Mattingly stays west coast. Definite top 3 class. Watch out for Bama and Florida to fight it out for #1. Good chance Bama lands Dee Liner here soon.

Again, the B+ is relative only to MZ. Not rankings, existing depth chart, etc. or BKs accomplishment. I don't think there is a QB out there honestly in the DT category I'd give an A+ too. Kelly gets an A++++ for getting him, and the QB situation with him is A++++. I'm just grading MZ on the eye test (film), right or wrong....
