While they can't pick where they're drafted, they can pick where they go to school for 3-5 years.

Exactly. And it's not like the Vikings spend 9 hours a day in December in nothing but socks and jocks practicing outside. The Miami Dolphins (ironically enough) were the last team I knew of that didn't have a dome to practice in...and that was remedied a few years ago. There's a big difference between being drafted by Buffalo, being paid handsomely to play a game you love to be a professional, and leaving there come January to live someplace else...and picking PSU (or ND) to live at year round, eating Ramen noodles, and having another full time job on top of football for 3-5 years.

Weather does matter to a lot of guys when choosing a college.

You missed the point.

I think I heard somewhere that the NCAA requires student athletes to enroll in classes at the university they attend. Might even be as full time students.

No info on that though.

True, but in the SEC enrolling is mandatory, attending classes is optional.

Weather may factor in to where Trey ultimately decides to got to college (as well as a lot of other kids across America).

Time to move on....

While I understand that it may be for some, I don't buy into the theory that it is such a big factor in recruiting. If that were the case, why do the schools up north and in the midwest get the athletes when it comes to basketball?

Ditto on playing indoors and the top top recruits know they'll only be there for a year or two.

Plus there's about 14 dudes on a basketball team, compared to 85 on a football team. Northern schools sometimes get kids from the south to come and hoop for them, but it's a lot easier to get 1 or 2 kids to do that for basketball than to get 10 or so football players a year to make that same decision.

And the SEC generally sucks in basketball. Yes, Florida and Kentucky are good but I would but Kentucky borderline in the "South."

The only way I see Trey flipping is if Reuben Foster flips to Auburn.

I get the playing basketball indoors, but they still have to wander outside for classes, go to parties, etc.. The weather in the midwest late in the college football season usually isn't that bad.

according to mike farrell ND looks to be loosing ILB alex anzalone to UF. if this does happen ND might try to contact trey johnson to fill that spot. i think landing johnson is probably slim to none but what does everyone else think, did trey have real interest before ND filled up it's LB spots?

Are you saying this, or is it being reported somewhere that we are getting back in touch with Trey Johnson?

BGI reported that we told Johnson we are full at the position, and that the only potential ILBs we are still in touch with are Savaiinea and Victor Egu. Based on that I think the Trey Johnson ship has sailed, but I don't really know what's going on with him beyond what's been reported in Tunnel Vision (i.e., what I've just typed).

no nothing being reported i was just speculating that a spot at ILB would be opened back up if we lost AA to florida. savaiinea won't be coming to ND texas a&m or stanford battle.

He's to short for our system even though he is a freak. I don't see USC making room with already wanting goodman and mcquay. Unless some other randos from there class decommitt

I wouldn't mind them letting us have Redfield.

I have a feeling we'd be all over that if Anzalone hadn't reaffirmed.

Still kind of surprises me that we aren't going after another ILB this year, as there isn't a ton of depth there. It may be that Anzalone's ego is a little fragile ... there were hints along those lines back before his last visit.

i thought i remember reading he was too short and we ended up stopping contact...don't remember where i just have this in my head...

I heard that too, but Sapp said we told him we were full. Not sure what the full story is. Doesn't really matter I guess.

ILB is our top need behind DT. If we could get Johnson on board (without pissing off Anzalone), it would be huge.

How is ILB a top need? we are bringing in two this class.

Take a look at the depth chart. The 2009 class brought in Te'o, Fox and Calabrese. There's a good chance only one of them returns. Over the next 3 years, 2010-2012, we only brought in two ILBs-- Moore and Grace. And we currently have Anzalone and Deeb committed for 2013. Assuming only one of Fox/Calabrese returns, that's 5/8 for 2013.

Even if Rabasa moves back to ILB, we're still hurting.

Ok. Say Fox and Carlo come back you have this.

Carlo, Fox, Grace, Moore, Schmidt, Deeb, Anzalone. That's 7 next year and 5 for 2014. Say you move Rabasa and Utopo to ILB. That's 7 for 2014 plus recruits for 2014.

BTW you didn't include Schmidt, but the staff really likes him.
