Mine's not a wrench anymore, just an icon with three horizontal lines, not sure when this happened.

(Good for voting twice in polls and looking at cheeky websites.. ;) )

It's hard to educate SEC fanboys. To them if you don't play in the SEC you don't play "real" football and any non-SEC team wouldn't win a game in the SEC.

This is so true. The only guy I know who is rooting for Notre Dame is a South Carolina fan through and through and he is only rooting for him because Chris Brown went to his high school. He was with me when I went to see Chris play in high school last year and wondered how Spurrier let him get away.

There are so many people here hoping for a ND loss and an all SEC final.

I just voted again and Teo and Manziel are tied at 27%. I wonder if the Heisman people consider the fact that Johnny's parents copyrighted the name " Johnny Football" and that Te'o is just an outstanding player and person and a future ND legend.

We still have something to prove to the nation so I don't mind all the fool-chatter out there by people who have no meaning to the games at all. We need to beat USC. Tough task, but we know we can do it, maybe even control it. Then Manti will win.

The flapdoodle fools will not yet shut up just because we're 12-0 and in the title game though. We have to win that too, to create the combination of Holy Silence and the Hollow Carping of Brainless Jackanapes. The Holy Silence will be the respect finally paid to Kelly, Manti, and the Team by everyone in football who in fact IS a football person and not a media buffoon or worse. The Braying of the Jackanapes will be greeted with derisive laughter thereafter.

Mostly this will happen with "only" an SC whipping and an NC slugfest even with a close loss, but ... lets not leave anything left to do --- there's a lot of magic in this team.

I just wanted to say that jackanapes is my new favorite word, thanks OMM! :)

Manziel lost the game against LSU. Typically, you can't lose a game for your team and win the Heisman. Here were his stats:

Passing: 29/56 276 yards 4.9 ypa 0 td 3 int
Rushing: 17 attempts 27 yards 1.6 ypc 0 td

Te'o showed up in every close game ND had.
10 tackles against Purdue
8 tackles and 2 ints against UM
11 tackles against Stanford and was right there in the goal line stand
10 tackles and 1 int against BYU
11 tackles and 1 int against OU

His worst game was probably against Pitt where he recorded only 7 tackles in 3OTs.

His 6 INTs tie him for second on INTs for the year. This is for a LB! Dion Bailey of USC has the next most for a non-secondary player with 4.

His biggest problem likely lies with number of tackles because he's tied for 46th with 98 tackles. Tackles usually measure how good a LB is (though being on a crappy team causes that to a degree as well). The top LBs on good teams include Eric Kendricks of UCLA and Ryan Shazier of tOSU. Both average 1 more tackles than Te'o. Shazier has a lot of TFL and 3 FF too.

Intangibles like "leadership" and "character" are what will propel him. He has solid stats, but we all know you have to do more than just wow the voters to win as a defensive player otherwise Suh would've won. It's bs. It's especially bs because it penalizes players for staying in their lanes when offenses operate away from elite defensive players.

Yeah it was tied at 27% this morning when I voted. Not sure how a QB who led his team to two losses is tied with a defensive stud like Teo who has his team undefeated and more than likely playing for the NC game when we take care of business this weekend. It's been obvious for most of the season that our defense has carried us to victory. As of late our offense has came around finally and are rolling on all cylinders. Is John's performance last week against Sam Houston state really worthy of jumping up in the polls like he has, I should say not. Anything to pad the stats for the SEC, but looking at the body of work between Teo and John, what jumps out; the 11 FBS schools that Teo has led the Irish to victory, and the undefeated home stretch he's carried. Or John M, the two losses both being at home, and wins against the likes of SMU Mustangs, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Sam Houston State Bearkats. Oh wait, it must be the last game of the season against Mizzou, who is right now standing at 5-6, with losses to Vanderbilt and Syracuse as of recent. How can the MVP be from a two loss team who can't even win his conference? Oh wait, is it because it's the SEC and being 3rd or 4th in the SEC is like being #3 and #4 in the country.

'You play to win the game'. If you have two Heisman candidates, one with two losses and not even playing in a BCS bowl game, or an undefeated team playing for the NC game (God willing after we beat USC), and is #1 in the country, how do you not look at the #1 team in the country first and wonder, without Teo, would they have won as many games as they did, probably not. Look at Texas A&M. Without John, would they have won more or lost more games? Well with him they lost two games, without him, probably a few more, but his presence wasn't enough to lead his team to an undefeated path. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I find it hard to believe that A&M's SOS is even in the same ball park as ND's. John has 1 signature win, Teo has at least 3 with one more to go, and possibly even a 4th one when we make it to the NC game. But as Teo has stated, when speaking with other Heisman candidates, would you of rather won the NC or won the Heisman, they all said the NC. So here's to Teo winning it all even if he doesn't win the Heisman!

This year has been a perfect storm for a primary defensive player to win. Contenders keep dropping from the list every week with poor performances by the individual and team. Manti is the only player who has been on the short list since day 1, which speaks of his consistent high level of play.

Also, Manti embodies everything a Heisman winner is, except for maybe super gaudy stats. There is really no other legitimate contender besides Manziel, who is a redshirt Frosh playing on a two loss team. With a win and a solid performance against USC (another story line too) on Sat, you have to think Manti will be favored to bring this thing back to ND.

You can use Chrome's Incognito window to vote more than once.

The brainiacs at work. No SEC fan would ever think of this.

Saturday night early in the game on a passing down, Manti will come right thru the middle like he has before and lay out Wittek. That will be the defining moment that wins it for him.

A Manti Te'o tidbit, Only one FBS LB in the last 10 years has recorded more interceptions in a season than the 6 Te'o has totaled this year.

I think Manti has a legitimate chance this year. Only one offensive player with momentum and his team has two losses with minimal relevant games remaining. Being a freshman doesn't help his cause. That's as big an obstacle as being a defensive player.

Marquies Lee should be getting more attention but four losses (soon to be five) have killed any real momentum.

Manti needs to give the voters a moment this Saturday so they can feel comfortable voting for a defensive player. Maybe it's just 15 tackles in lieu of a single play but something significant takes away the excuses.

If it's ever going to happen, it's Manti, this year.

#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly on Te'o for Heisman: "My last pitch would be, win all your games. You're a defensive player. Dominate."

The Heisman was created to be given to "The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity." Seriously those are the EXACT words in the description of the award. Who fits that billing better than Manti Te'o? No one.

Remember that you can repeatedly go in Incognito and vote. I've voted 10 times today and will do some more tonight.

29-28, Manziel. Need him to crap the bed against Mizzou. Considering the fact that Aggies don't really have a defense, Missouri COULD outscore them and win.

GO MIZZOU!!

If Manti wins the Heisman I will be pleasantly shocked. I love him and he deserves to win by the very definition of the thing, but anymore it is a who is the hottest hand QB award. The fact that with a few big names blowing their own chances has made it this close. Also, the fact that he got jumped in the polling by a two loss redshirt freshman QB with one huge win and video game numbers against 4-6 palookas shows where the Heisman voters heads are. Manti's last best hope is a mediocre to poor performance by JM and a very good day or outstanding play where Musberger can say "Hello Mr. Heisman!"

I hope it happens...I truly do...but I will believe it when I see it.

Pick Six and Manti will win the Heisman for sure. he could have a quiet enough game stat wise but if he gets a Pick Six you know Herbie and Berger will say "there is your Heisman moment", and then you know it will be in the bag

Must:
Double digit tackles, a few TFLs, (could be sacks or beautiful crushing hits)

Persuasive:
Turnover of some sort

Guaranteed if happens:
All the above with a TD

The more I think about it the more I think we need Te'o to have a typical Te'o game and Manziel struggle enough against Missouri.
