mcglinchey is a future tackle as is elmer....the others i project is interior guys...could be wrong, but that's how i see them hitting their ceilings imo
No way...Bivin and John can play inside, but McCogvern stays outside no matter what.
Right, most people seem to think that if one of the tackles moves inside it will be Bivin. At least that's what I remember reading in the spring/summer after those guys committed.

With his long arms he can play either right tackle or inside as a guard or center, which ever position he ends up he should be able to play well.
I think a move from tackle to guard, accompanied by more fire and passion when he plays, and I think he will prove any naysayer wrong and be a stand out player for years to come.
What criteria are you guys basing these assertions on? Simple height? At 6'7'', Bivin is the 2nd tallest OL commit in this class, behind only McGlinchey at 6'9''.
I think this is what I recall reading:
In The Film Room: Hunter Bivin
It's free so I guess I can quote from it:
I believe there were other, similar articles, but I won't be able to find them now. If you are skeptical though, Whiskey, I can see why. I don't think I've ever heard of a 6'7" guard.
Like Whiskey, I'm curious why you think McGovern could be a guard, rtrn2glory. I haven't heard anyone saying that McGovern, Elmer or McGlinchey will or might play anything but tackle.

the film i've seen from mcgovern and the camp scene highlights showed that he looked like he isn't elite in space, which is a huge requirement obviously at tackle. however, he has a great motor and a mean streak and is just agile enough to be a good puller. that's what i'm basing it off of....i think his ceiling is on the inside, but i'm not the one making the decision, which is fortunate. plus i think it's easier for the way we recruit OL to find guys that can play tackle rather than interior dudes...we've been blessed with some studs this year in bivin and montelus with at the very least mcgovern being a swing guy that can play inside or out, much like bivin, but i project him on the interior as well.
Thanks. Interesting take.
nice way for saying your a dumb a**??
that's just my opinion
height is the last thing i considered personally idk about the others.
Pretty sure he was being sincere. Lighten up, Francis.
I think a 6'9" kid is going to stuggle inside.
McGovern plays with the athleticism and playing strength needed to dominate as both a run and pass blocker. Has the height for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition with a long frame that should support additional body mass over time. Playing out of a two- and three-point stance, we see very good initial quickness and first-step explosion. He has strong hands and is able to knock defenders back on their heels with his first punch. He plays with a flat back and is able to gain an immediate advantage on first contact. When single- or double-team blocking, we see the ability to roll the hips and sustain due to his blocking base and persistent leg drive. Does a very good reacting and adjusting to movement. He plays in space very well, showing excellent flexibility, agility and balance. He is productive as a trap blocker. He gets out of his stance, clears the line and demonstrates the ability to locate and adjust his blocking angle on the move. He gets out in front, displaying good downfield aggressiveness. We see the athleticism needed to reach and consistently get a hat on active first and second level defenders. McGovern has the athleticism and physical tools needed to make all the run blocks at the next level. His long arms, quick hands and nimble feet should be assets in pass protection. He sets quickly, showing good bend with the ability to slide and stay in front of pass rushers. He gets his hands up quickly working for placement and extension, and has the athleticism to recover and get out of trouble. He is a tough customer who finishes with a nasty attitude. With added bulk and improved playing strength, McGovern could challenge for a starting spot immediately.
The athleticism and long arms screams OT to me.all of that scouting report translates more to guard than tackle imo.
Notre Dame should be very happy to get these 5 young men...They could all be stars!i think everyone of our 5 has the chance to be elite...depends on how they work and translate their skills to the college game.
imo montelus has the biggest upside, but ill leave it at that.

That's true.
I just don't know why you and everyone else on this site have him as the lowest or on the lower end of ND OL prospects. Personally, I think he will end up being the best of the bunch. Not to mention he is the only one with a Alabama offer...wait a kid from Illinois with an Alabama offer!?
Lol, thanks Whiskey. I was being totally sincere. I haven't seen much film on McGovern and I am far from an expert on O-line play. I appreciate your perspective, rtrn2glory. I certainly wouldn't have repped you for it if I didn't.
True but since guys like Elmer committed soooo early, perhaps judging offers is not perfect.
Either way, their offers are all terrific.
The big offers for each of them:
Elmer: Michigan, MSU, Stanford, Wisconsin
McGlinchey: Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, MSU, Penn State, Wisconsin
Montelus: Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, West Virginia
McGovern: Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, West Virginia, Wisconsin
Bivin: Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Wisconsin.
Wow. Bivin actually has offers from nine SEC schools.
my perspective is usually meaningless, but thanks none the less. O line is prolly the hardest position for me to evaluate just cuz i don't know how good the guys are lined up across from them, which is surely why we don't see a lot of freshman starters at O line across the country cuz it's so hard to move from high school to college.
no harm done!!
Thanks for the backup lol.To backup Sherm on this, when I said I don't think he's our BEST OL prospect, I was referring to Elmer. I think Elmer looks to be the best prospect. That being said, I think McGovern's athleticism puts him as a tackle, and I think he will start at tackle for us. I think Bivin could end up being one of the better guards in the nation, but I don't think he's a better tackle prospect than those two guys. Having watched McGovern a lot in high school, he was a huge land for us. Alabama wanted him pretty badly.
