That sucks. I think he could be a much higher pick with a year as the main man next year.

Good thing we are absolutely stacked at running back for next year.

Atkinson, Carlisle, McDaniel, and Mahone. Boom!

I'm not as confident as you are. Wood>>>>>> then all of them.

McDaniel is going to be a good one. When Atkinson polishes up then he will be better than Cierre Wood. And we all know about Amir

What makes you think McDaniel is going to be so good? 1 drive against a crap Miami rush defense? I'm not so sure about GAIII, takes much much more then running fast to be a good running back. Not saying he won't get better but i'm not so sure he'll be better then Cierre. No we don't know about Amir considering he hasn't played a snap for ND and is coming off an injury. So basically we know nothing about him.

Why I like McDaniel... The kid is old school, has a never ending motor, and will hit you right in the mouth. He doesn't dance around and try to dance around people. He is a North-South runner and I like that.

Why I like Atkinson... He is already our fastest running back we have. You're right, it takes more than speed to be a good back but it's not like he has been on this team for 4 years. He still has a lot to learn and he will get better. The learning of patience and reading where the gap will be comes with experience. Like Golson, once he gets experience, watch out.

Why I like Amir... You're not in the running back rotation at USC because you suck. He is quick and will be tough to bring down if he gets in space

I agree with this.

A also think Wood should stay another year in South Bend to "be the man."

He should be "the man" this year. I wouldn't blame if for not staying. Seems like he's been dealt a ****** hand this year. Riddick runs hard but he is no Cierre.

I would just like to know what happened. This was a very odd situation all season.

I think it's going to depend on the grade he gets from the NFL. If he projects as a late 3rd to 4th rounder he would be doing himself a disservice if he leaves. If he comes back next year he will easily be an early to mid second round pick

Not going to second guess why Wood is not getting more touches. The rb I find most intriguing, assuming his commitment sticks is Jamel James. If he shows up in shape and ready to work I could see him shaking things up.

Yea I am going to need to be a little more convinced we are "stacked." Amir hasn't stayed healthy for a long period of time yet and we have no idea what Mahone can do at this level. George is fast, we all know that, but can he be an every down player? Cam had awesome runs against Navy and Miami. But it was Navy and Miami.

If Wood leaves then i'd assume GAIII is going to be the man. Hard to imagine a true freshman getting carries unless injuries occur. Like GITF stated Amir has been injury prone. I'd say Cam could be a legitimate #2 is Amir doesn't get healthy. That leaves Mahone, which i personally believe will be turning heads...

Time to start a vBookie event on Wood and Eifert.

Maybe Watt.

The draw of a NC keeps a lot of kids home, eh Landry Jones and Matt Barkley?

Very odd season with Cierre so far. I believe he has not been able to work himself out of the doghouse and I am not surprised by this announcement. I don't think it really matters where he grades out, in all likelihood- he gone.

With that being said, I am not sold on GA3 as an every down back. He is fast but he is a long strider and doesn't really look shifty. It takes him a while to get out of his cuts, and his pad level is high, so I worry that he takes the brunt of a lot of the contact. There is no doubt he is an exceptionally talented football player, but I am not sure he is a pure running back in the mold of a Cierre. I think he is a perfect change of pace back but you will probably see a lot of either Mahone, Cam, or Amir to go along with a side of GA3.

I think wood leaves. It is pretty obvious that what ever he did still doesn't sit we'll with Kelly. IMO wood has been shafted carries this year. He was a great runner in 2012 he has been good when he get touches. He needs to touch the ball at least 15 times a game. I know his stock has dropped some but I we no reason we would want to stay another year.

bk's gonna have to recruit him to stay as hard or harder than the guys he's recruiting as seniors in high school....we're already most likely losing eifert we're gonna need to keep cierre around

Is it possible everyone is just overreacting to this FB post? Isn't it possible he's just stating the obvious...FOR THE MOMENT? Think about it- at this time, he is an academic senior, set to graduate, and no 5th year invitations have been given out by BK. So, RIGHT NOW, this is going to be his last home game, regardless of what he wants.

Good point. I think we were looking into it too deep.

I'm just giving my opinion. I really think GA3 will be a solid back once he gets more reps in practice and in real games. I like McDaniel because he is physical and always runs with a purpose, you can't teach that. The secondary proved us wrong this year, maybe the running backs will prove some of you wrong next year

Nothing against Cierre. For the team's success, I'd love to have him back, but honestly, I no longer fear missing a player on this team. And I'm excited to see what the back-up and new guys can bring to the table.

I think Zack Martin coming back is more important for the running game than Cierre. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to have Cierre back and he would undoubtedly be the man if he were to return, but big Zack with one more year of experience will help to make any of the other guys a bigger weapon.

I think the next guys in on the O-Line (Martin, Hanratty, Hegarty) will be just as good as the guys they are replacing and Watt/Martin are already studs. I am not afraid to go forward with GAIII, McDaniel, Carlisle and Mahone carrying the mail behind that line.

Cierre- best RB on the team 2012 or 2013 hands down. If you argue it then you havent watched football.

Theo - damn good RB. He honestly is just running hard as hell and getting the job done. I think BK like Cwood and knows what he is gonna get week in and out with both. Its just Theo has been consistent all year and adds to the passing game as well.

I fully agree Cwood should be getting at least 15 touches a game. But at the sametime we are 10-0 and theres not much reason to mess with a good thing. Cierre is going to get paid in the NFL at some point in his career. The kid is talented and has that NFL vision. I dont think its really going to matter whether he comes out this year or next year bc he is one of those guys that wont test well at the combine, but he will turn heads once he is in a camp.

Amir - healthy = starting RB at usc as a true frosh. thats all that needs to be said. unhealthy = next man in.

Mahone - He has done well on scout team this year. He did actually score a TD in practice on the first team and took some heat from the coaches, so its a good sign if he is scoring TDs vs our D lol It will be interesting to see if they bulk him up, or let him stay that size and work his speed/agility hard.

Cam - Kid is a serviceable back. 3rd down kind of kid and someone who can fill in for a game if someone goes down. He is just one of those "RKGs". Where he might not get snaps, but he is gonna make plays on SpTeams and push the starters each day

GA3 - I think he just needs to fine tune the mental part of his game. He is still thinking a little bit too much. He has all the potential in the world. He just needs to drop that pad level, and keep getting stronger. I suspect he will be the #2 RB next year.

Jamel James - Love this kid. Right now...we are wearing teams down with Theo. Just imagine giving this kid the rock as a fresh RB in the 4th. 240 lbs of steam. Im not sure where he fits in next year esp if Mahone comes of age, but I have a feeling he may be used on short yardage. There is no reason to "redshirt" him with ND prob taking 2 RBs in 2014.

All in all you know what you have coming next year from this position. Its a good corps, but could be great if Amir stays healthy and GA3 can play like a starter consistently. GA3 is almost there. Theres a lot of talent there. And if Cwood does decide to comeback then it will be great from the start
