I am a 49ers fan, so my guys won't have it (and that's quite alright because we're gunning for the Superbowl). However, not only do I live in Kansas City, my brother is a big Chiefs fan (and it appears highly likely they'll have the first pick). So, I was just wondering whom you all thought they should take. Keep in mind, this is the same team that hasn't drafted a QB since 1983 (Todd Blackledge) and hasn't won a game with a starting QB THEY drafted since 1987. So yeah, they're highly overdue on actually being real men and drafting a QB in round one if it's called for. The problem is, there is no Andrew Luck or RGIII at the end of the rainbow this year.

I have been thinking about it and personally I wouldn't take either Matt Barkley OR Geno Smith as neither have truly impressed me. Barkley not at all, Smith throws up gaudy stats against subpar defenses. In truth, and partly because I am Notre Dame faithful, I'd take Te'o just because he really seems like the next Junior Seau only with better coverage ability. But, #1 overall seems even too high for him. You could make the case they could trade down and still take Te'o (which they would replace Justin Houston with), but who would trade up with them with no solid "he's absolutely #1" guy on the board. Thoughts?

Actually, Barkley does impress me, and I think the Chiefs should draft him. But I do agree, there is no a RGIII/Luck type. But you never know what will pan out...

Is Jadeveon (Sp?) Clowney available? If so, that dude is an absolute freak!

I think a defensive player goes first. Jarvis Jones has made some noise for number 1 pick contention. Along with any of the the elite DE this year, most notably Mingo from LSU (although he's doing alright, nothing eye popping this year). Te'o and Star Lotulelei are both gonna be top 10 picks but I doubt either a MLB or DT goes first. Although if Te'o wins the Heisman then I could see a team taking a shot at him with the first pick.

Only a sophomore, so no.

Edit: I know being a Junior isn't the criteria. Must be out of HS for 3 years.

Star (wont try to spell last name) from Utah is Haloti Ngata Jr. Any team should be happy to get a guy like him.

Jones or Lotulelei are the defensive impact players I see going early. Maybe the DT from Ohio State is in there also. Clowney is only a So., so he will be back at So. Car. for another year.

Chiefs could take a defensive player in first and then hope Tommy Rees is still there in the 2nd. That would entail rolling the dice, though.

What do you think his draft standing (supposing he remains healthy) will be next year?

Probably a lock for top 5, if not first overall. Right behind him will be Tuitt. Two of the most dominant young DE in a while. Really it may depend on who has the first couple of picks next year. Only exception is that Clowney is a pure 4-3 DE pass rusher, while Tuitt could play any position on a 3-4 or 4-3 Defensive line. All in all though, Clowney will almost certainly be first.

Browns need to win maybe two more games to take Manti.

As for the Chiefs, Barkley is the logical choice.

A little off subject, but what about Marquise Lee in the year that Clowney is eligible? That man is a monster!

I can't see Lee going #1 in 2014. He doesn't have Megatron size (who does though), and receivers are a dime a dozen.

There's no doubt that KC needs a QB. You can probably expect new leadership next year (or at least my friends who are Chiefs fans hope so), and often that coincides with a new franchise QB. Barkley? Geno Smith?

I'm not sure who else is out there. Seems like a relatively weak year for Quarterbacks.

Geno Smith might not be a first round pick, just saying...

Matt Barkley will be the first pick in the draft. Mark it...

As a Jaguar fan, I've thought about this a time or two. If the Jags have the number one pick I'm hoping for Jarvis Jones. Kid is a monster.

Manti Teo better not go to Cleveland. He deserves much better than that

Always depends on the team but usually a team picking first has no QB. The Chiefs need one badly and can rebuild the team starting with a good, young QB. Barkley will be best QB for them. Landry will be top 10. Unless they go other position first and grab a guy like Geno with the 33rd pick.

Lets take the blinders off here for a second. I've looked at many mocks, and haven't seen Manti higher than 13. Most have him going in the 20's. Love the guy, but he isn't going number 1 overall.

Also, people saying Geno wont go in the first round. Please, Weeden went in the first round last year and he was what 29? Geno will be a top 20 pick no doubt. If my Vikings could draft him and get a 2nd-3rd pick for Ponder I'd do it in a heartbeat.

As a fellow Viking fan, you are think like a crazy person. At this point there is no way Ponder doesn't get another year. Vikings will draft WR, DT, or LB in the first.

Obviously, I know it isn't going to happen. If you think Ponder is the right person to lead us to the promise land good for you. In my opinion he isn't. The worst mistake the franchise ever did was winning that meaningless game in Washington last year, and losing their chance in changing the franchises direction for the next 15 years and getting RG3. But oh well, prove me wrong Christian, I'll gladly eat crow.

Also, I'm on board with Keenan Allen, Kawann Short, or by the grace of god Manti is the first round. So we can agree on that.

GO Vikes!

McShay has him #2 on his big board right now. Everything I have been hearing projects Manti as a top ten pick.

Both Kiper and McShay have Manti in the top 5 on their board, Kiper actually has him #2. There is no way Manti falls to the 20s. I think he is probably a top 7 pick based on the lack of QB talent this year and there may only be 1 or 2 defensive players picked before him ( Mingo might be one that goes before but he's not having a great year). I just don't see this draft being that good this year with very few high level OT or QB talent who usually fill up a large portion of the top 5 or 7 picks.
