Tommy has done great in his role, Everett gives the Irish the best chance to beat the tough teams. This thread should end, way too much bad juju. 6-0.

FWIW, Herbstreit just said on CFB Live that our O-line is not good enough to have Rees in for 4 quarters and that it'd be a major mistake to start him. Matt Millen agreed.

And Les Miles is the next coach of Michigan.

Matt Millen.

And arahop is right anyway, it's a fun, but pointless debate. The starter is who it is, and hopefully it won't matter.

How about we compare the offensive numbers from last year to this year?

Rees completed almost 10% more of his passes than Golston, and had a significantly higher QB rating.

This year the disparity is even greater.

The reason that we have been successful this year is almost entirely a credit to a much improved defense. Trying to pretend its anything else is frankly just not being truthful.

Not even close to a sufficient representative sample.

Ah another "I don't like Kelly" tangent unrelated to Golson and Rees. And, like many of your statements is baseless hyperbole.

ND has run 409 plays. 242 running plays, 59%, and 167 passes. Of those 242, Riddick has rushed 80 times. That's 19.6% of the total plays. Considering Wood was benched for the first two games, Riddick got 42.5% of his carries. Since Wood has been back he's actually carried the ball one more time than Riddick, 47 to 46. In the Miami game Wood had 18 carries to Riddick's 5.

Unlike you, I didn't guess based upon my misconceptions. Just like the guy that posted the passing stats, I looked them up because your statements sounded bogus and they were.

Like the QBs, Kelly or Martin, as the OC picks the personal he wants, is managing the backs in the game and not on a union basis. Riddick and Wood get most of the work and it's not mostly behind any one OL. They run left and right, inside and out. Then, like Hotlz used Rocket they bring in GA in spot areas not as a bell cow.

Riddick got pulled because of injury for entire second half, and I don't think we passed the ball very much beyond 8 minutes into 3rd quarter. But still agree with you.

@ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame QB Everett Golson (concussion) not cleared for practice, could "help" if he returns as late as Thursday

Rees starts this week, and Golson never takes another meaningful snap in an ND uniform.

NO it's not time to do that. Everett will be just fine! We saw the Tommy experience and the Golson one is better. If Tommy is in then the offense can Never reach its full potential.

Honestly, I don't feel good about any QB on our roster right now.

1. Everett Golson is too much of an athlete first and a QB second at this point. Some throws are diamonds, others are coal. That's fine, and it's good were getting him experience now...but the future is "now" with the defense we have we should be making a run at a national title. Not sure if EG can deliver that.

2. Tommy Rees has more experience and handles the pressure better, but I think he throws too many picks and the altercation he got into with the cops in the offseason really put him in my dog house.

3. Gunnar Kiel I am very excited about...as soon as he gets his feet wet and can actually contend for the starting job.

4. Andrew Hendrix doesn't impress me on any level.

On a related note, could you imagine what we could do with this team now and either Brady Quinn or Jimmy Clausen at QB? Holy crap.

It is ok to not be a Tommy fan but because of police incident, Really? He payed his debt to society and mentored Golson during the fall practice and the team has rallied around him, so what is the problem? If you want to say his arm is too weak or he is too slow of foot fine, if that is your reason for not being impressed with him, then I think you missed the point. People make mistakes, as long as he doesn't go out and do it again, I say forgive and forget.

Completely agree. He f'd up. He appears to recognize it and is trying to move on. Been nothing but class throughout this season. That said, there's no way Rees should be our starting QB. Golson's got more skills. And Herbstreit and Millen are exactly right. Tommy would have been on his *** 15 times Saturday, and we would have lost because of it.

And yet everyone continues to use the "6-0" reasoning against Rees, without giving Rees credit for bailing us out in half of them. Without Rees, we wouldn't be 6-0 right now. That argument works both ways.

Amen Wooly !!!!! Couldn't agree more.

If at this time last year you wouldve told me there would be a thread with someone other than HCTI wanting tommy to be starter again I wouldve thought you were crazy...

This thread reminds me of what's wrong with politics in this country. There are posters that can't seem to see any good in Rees, despite the fact that without him we may have two losses.
Give the kid credit where it is due.

he is a good reliever, but he isnt starting material at this level to be honest. I do like how he throws it up for Eifert every now and then though. Golson seems scared to do that sometimes.

I know that the kid routinely gets slammed on these boards. However the truth of the matter is that the offense just runs so much better when he is at the helm. It's just time to make a permanent change.

Bottom line is that you play to win the games. Maybe Golson will further develop and be a star at some point. Unfortunately that time hasn't arrived yet.

Tommy needs to be the man behind center right now. Especially if we have any hopes of BCS games.

DERP!

My feelings are largely unchanged.

Rees played well in the first quarter. Didn't turn the ball over. Let the running game dictate the offense.

People are forgetting how Golson looked the week before.
