1. Rees can't be counted on for four consecutive quarters of play. This in no moral judgment on him, just an empirically justified conclusion. He reverted at times yesterday to the pre-2012 Tommy. It's clear Everett Golson is our starter, and why.

2. I simply can't understand why Hendrix only the saw the field for two plays, especially given that Kelly decided to run the ball in the second half. Hendrix ran for 12 yards on his first play and completed a pass on his second, and only other, play. Why didn't Kelly play him more? Sorry, but I'm faulting Kelly on this decision. What, Tommy hands the ball off better? C'mon, man!

3. Our team was flat yesterday until well into the second half. We are a much better team than BYU and we let them think we weren't. That's to be expected, I guess, given the context of this game being sandwiched between two bigger games. Still, the team has to really re-focus this week.

4. Nix had two consecutive facemask pulls late in the game, only one of which got flagged. I may be wrong, but I think it was because he was gassed. Why doesn't he get more relief?

5. Thank God for Theo Riddick. He was unbelievable. It's not too far from wrong to say that he won this game. Just imagine if it had been GA III on that 55 yarder. Their no. 6 would have been sucking wind as George crossed the goal line.

6. BYU came into the game no. 3 in the country against the rush, and we put up almost 300 yards rushing on them. I think it might have been closer to 400 with Everett.

7. We can't beat every remaining opponent on our schedule with defense alone. If our offense doesn't show up big-time next week it could get ugly.

8. Brindza has had his one allowable off-day. No more, baby.

9. Golic? No comment. A weak link who would probably never have seen the field if his name was Jones. I think we'd have been better off letting a younger OL get game experience this year.

Conor is waiting in the wings for his chance and when he gets it he's not coming out. Golic grades the lowest each week of all the offensive lineman, but when the team is 7-0, the staff is just letting this ride. He's def much better at run blocking then he is pass blocking. Hopefully we can somehow maintain proper balance against OU so he isn't exposed too bad.

I had very similar thoughts following the game.

- As soon as BYU took Eifert away, Tommy seemed to revert back to inaccurate throws and questionable decisions. IMO, we are still lucky to have him as a back-up but yes, EG is def our starter.

- Watching Theo's legs churn while he bounced off defenders and moved piles was incredible. The kid has been so reliable this year.

Oklahoma has only faced one solid defense this year in K-State.. We can absolutely step into Norman and punch them in the mouth. Kelly will need to open up the playbook and bring something fresh to this game. Let EG run and throw wild.

I hope we can get to Landry Jones early and smack him in the mouth b/c he will fold like a tent. Get on the board first, Tuitt pile drive Jone to the chest like we saw Stanford do to Tommy early in the game last year and this game w/b fun.

Golic did make some good plays. He is doing his best. Where do you find the coach's player grades for the game?
I would have liked to see Hendrics play the entire second half. As mentioned, he can hand the ball off with the best of them. If the game plan was to run the ball only in the second half, this would appear to me to be the way to go.
Lou Holtz said earlier he thought "Notre Dame has found their quarterback" after Hendrick's play in an earlier game, showing his skills as a running quarterback.
As near as I can tell, his only fault is throwing passes to the linebackers.

I'd have to kill you if I told you.

GA3 would have never bounced out of the pile and kept his feet turning the way that Theo did. (not a knock on GA3, but Riddick ran about as hard and as determined as anyone I have seen in an Irish Jersey lately)

This news was great to come home to since I had to quit watching. I dont know if maybe getting a scare from BYU would maybe be good so when OU comes out and scores it wont be such a shock but I dunno. Ill take any win but I really wish we couldve had a miami type win going into norman instead of this.

Actually, I think this kind of win was good for us.
We played so flat and sloppy in the first half. Might have started believing the hype. And based on post-game comments our players know it, know how close they came to pissing away a special season, and know they're better than that. In years past we would have been happy with the win but the vibe yesterday was definitely not happy. Plus we'll get a little less love in the polls/national conversation.
All that sets us up nicely to come out with a big chip on the shoulder against OU. Like someone said, score first, smack Landry Jones around, and we just might pull a huge win.

GA would have been a TFL or no gain at best. The defense stopped when they assumed Riddick was stopped. But he didn't stop, he kept churnin'. Those that knock Riddick for getting chased down neglect the energy he expended getting through those tackles at the line. With a 3 foot hole and not getting knocked down and having to get back up, he's gone.

What a tough game, you guys do realize that it was against a very solid opponent in between Stanford and Oklahoma right? Now that we have that established, I loved the rushing attack and will love it even more with Golson in there. Gotta clean up the Field Goals and the redzone play calling and execution but other than that the defense stepped up again and the three headed monster at TB looked great again! Hats off to Tommy for playing an almost error free game, tipped passes are disasters waiting to happen. We are a very good team and looking forward to watching the boys give Oklahoma everything they got!

I'm with stl. BYU is a tough opponent. They exploited our young secondary twice. I'd rather it was them than OU or USC The pass defenders got schooled twice but it didn't cost a victory only their pride. Bruising that can be a growing experience. They embarrassed themselves but dug in and shut BYU down.

Your quit watching habit because ND is trailing would have prevented you from seeing most of the greatest games ever played. Army, USC, The Snow Bowl, The Cheerios Bowl, The Chicken Soup Bowl, The Game of The Century(both of them, OSU and MSU) The Bear Bryant Games, FSU '93, Rocket's Returns v Schembechler, so many great memories ... You'd have never seen a Montana game. The first Montana. You would have missed The $4 million Tackle when little Ivory Covington hit Army's 240 pound TE going in for a score to win the game and knock ND out of a bowl. Covington didn't just hit him, he drove him back to end the game for an ND win!

And you'd rather see 66-0 over a losing team.

I don't think we came out flat. We had a very good first drive and could not finish. We came out flat after that. I don't want to blame Brindza. But look all you do is kick in practice you better make a frickin 28 yard and 40 yard FG. Nix first "facemasking" was not facemasking. He got the collar. I thought the second one was 100% facemasking in real time. But I saw the replay and it look like the first one. Either I saw it wrong or Nix facemask earlier.
