Interesting stuff for sure.

I would offer that since this is an anonymous and open internet message board, no one can really expect to dictate what others should/shouldn't post. (Mods excluded of course, mostly) From my own experience, I read posts that are irritating and I have this overwhelming need to respond. I mostly talk my self out of it because it's an anonymous board and wasting time wading into a discussion that rarely gets resolved in a fruitful manner is just, well fruitless.

I appreciate the diversity here and really appreciate the Notre Dame info this site provides. As big of a fan I have always been, there is no question I am better fan since I began reading IE. Now there's good with the bad, the good far outweighs the bad. Discussing x's and o's, or the value of a recruit is good stuff. Discussion in this thread is just hyperbole because someone feels slighted or belittled.

I would hope, and expect, that no one can get any real sense of validation or improved self worth because you feel you have won an argument on a message board. Now, put everyone in the same room, face to face, and you can feel validated but i expect most of these little dust-ups would never happen. People tend to be not so tough in person.

I've now contributed nothing to a subject that is just part of the nature of the venue. I may ban myself for at least a moment.

Go Irish!

Haven't been a member that long but this **** is annoying. Do you ever talk about football?

If it's annoying you; the door is over there. No one is forcing you to stay here and read it. If you do choose to do so, however, you will come to the realization that dshans (intentionally or not) has often lightened up a tense moment with one of his grammar corrections. It's almost become a game on IE. If you don't like the game, you don't have to stand around and watch it. But don't stand there, of your own free will, watching the game and complaining about how annoying it is.

I'm not suggesting that you leave. IE is not new: it's been around a while, and there are some pretty tight-knit associations on here. Like any other new "group" that you find yourself in the midst of; it's not a bad idea to observe the dynamics of the group, before complaining about it.

GB may suck at spelling but he summarizes a lot of crap I don't want to pay for.

Gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

I like the post about "trawling." I have always believed that you are only being trolled if you allow your self to be.

Would it not be impossible to be a troll if no one gave an emotional response back?

Just like those who constantly give ALLGATOR the moment of glory he insists on creeping around IE for when you say, "Fvck You ALLGATOR before you even post."

He has trolled you so hard that he is trolling by not posting a single keystroke. To him, I say, well done.

EDIT: However, I am upset that my subscription for the Hawkins thread was changed to this debauchery.

It's douchery....JUST SAYING.

Cut the pretentious crap, guys. So what if someone misses something from time to time.

If you wanna cut someone down, do it when we discuss football. Otherwise, you're just picking a fight and quite honestly, deserve all the hate that comes your way for being such a nitpicker.

So bash people for their views on Harrison Smith or Lane Kiffin going for two when the game was already outta reach.......Lord knows I got hoe-checked on those.

ha... I didn't read what it was, but didn't you make a bunch of perceived racist comments in a political thread? I bring that up because you seem to not have a problem with starting fights about politics, race, etc, but you draw the line at grammar? Good to see that you have your priorities in order.

Anywho, what some people arent understanding is that Dshan's comments are suppose to be comedic relief. He has been doing it forever and it's part of his persona on here. Some of you need to take a chill pill and learn how to take a joke. Dshan has corrected me a ton of times and it usually turns into a hilarious exchange. It only comes to this when you get all butthurt about it and start being a crybaby.

Although I personally find Dshan's posts funny, I can see why it would irritate some. The reality is, subject matter and univiersity aside, this is an internet discussion board.

Unless I've missed something, there are no grammar or spelling bylaws that govern this place. Let us also not forget this is a place for opinion and debate. Long and short timers alike should be able to express their thoughts, but also respectful to each other if nothing else.

Perhaps we need an "Ignore Spelling/Grammar" button. Since we don't have one right now, I recommend you ignore it if you don't like it. Feel free to complain, but know that complaining just fans the fire, clogs up threads, etc.. That said, the folks like me (that could care less), will sit back with popcorn and laugh at all of this entertaining behavior.

They may have been "perceived" that way, but I assure you they were not "racist". And giving your opinion on politics -- in a political thread mind you -- is a far cry from the nit-picking we're talking about here.

Giving your opinion in political discussion is not the same as calling someone out for spelling in a recruit's thread.

My opinion??? I don't think I have posted a serious comment in the political comments in months. Most of my posts in that thread revolve around Honey Boo Boo and Binders Full of Women.

I assure you that you don't know the first thing about my "political opinions", but if you are saying that irishpat hasn't made very insensitive comments in threads outside of the political threads, then you are dead wrong.

Insensitive? Maybe. Racist? No.

Again, just because a handful of people viewed them that way, didn't make it racist.

And my inital comment about nitpicking grammar wasn't really a dig at you, but the topic in general.

And if you think that nitpicking grammar, and heated political discussions are comparable...then there is no hope for this country. So you don't give a damn about politics, but you care about grammar usage on a football website?

I meant the general "your", not you personally. Like "putting your hands on someone is assault". General statement.

I'm not trying to bust on you, Pat. I actually like you, but that is neither here nor there.

My point was that you don't care about being "insensitive" to other people's beliefs or disrespecting them, but you draw the line at the meanies that correct grammar as a joke? If I had to call one of those "douchey" it would certainly be the offensive comments, especially when they are outside of actual political threads.
