Hey, wait a minute, I thought Denard Robinson was going to win the Heisman this year.

There have been some hypotheticals being tossed around on IE for a few weeks. I have one more:

A) Go undefeated but lose in the NC game
B) Lose 1 game (OK or USC) but win the BCS Bowl
C) Lose 1 game (OK or USC), lose the BCS Bowl, but Manti wins the Heisman.

I know everyone will say if we lose to OK or USC and lose the BCS Bowl game that he would never win the Heisman. I'm just curious how important him winning the award would mean to this community. I'm not even sure what I would pick, but I do know his speech would be incredible.

Don't think Manti has a shot at the Heisman if we lose a game.

I think you missed my point; Would you give up wins for him to win the Heisman?

No, my reasoning?

Because he wouldn't give up wins for the award, so I won't either.

Being a captain of a National Championship team is way more respectable than winning a Heisman imo. I don't care about the fame associated with the Heisman.

But, a championship and Heisman wouldn't be too bad. Lol.

I want both!

But if I have to choose, it's winning that I hold in higher regard.

Wont the Heisman be awarded before the National Championship game? Or even the start of bowl games for that matter?

That's what I thought. Kind of strange that they do it that way, but that's how I remember it being too.

While I am all in for this, his stats just won't bear out to make it past the QBs and RBs of the world. Add in that only 1 D player has won it, and that was really because of exceptional special teams and occasional offensive displays. Manti is strictly defence. Here are his stats:

59 Tackles, 9.83 per game, good for 26th.
Tuitt is the only ND player listed on TFLs.
Tuitt is only ND player listed for sacks.
3 Ints, good for 14th nationally
2 Fumbles Recovered good for 8th.

While you and I and anyone that watches him play can see how outstanding a player he is, on perhaps the best defence in the country, those numbers are not going to have voters swayed.

On college football live they polled their people (first time this year) and it was:

1 Geno
2 Klein
3 Braxton Miller
4 Manti Te'o
5 DeAnthony Thomas

But they also pointed out Te'o is getting more votes and merit than Tyrann Mathieu was at this point last year. They think if we lose 0 or 1 and he continues at this pace he will get to NY

Just saw the ESPN fan vote for Heisman. Manti is #2 behind Geno Smith. I want West Virginia to knock off Kansas State so we move up...but maybe Geno has a bad day to achieve that

I think it's also helping Manti that there aren't many offensive players who are playing incredibly well. Geno Smith is the only name I hear coming out of commentators mouths every 10 seconds. Manti is playing great, but he is also filling a vacuum.

The reason Teo won't win is obviously because he doesn't play on offense. I think it's total bs what the Heisman has become. The advantage that offensive players have over defensive players is deplorable. If the ball is not in your hands on almost every play you're looked upon as insignificant in the discussion. The problem is, there are so many things that great defensive players do that go unnoticed just because the ball isn't in their hands. Offensive players are looked upon as the ones who take charge and win games for the team. As far as I'm concerned, I would hate to see how this season would have played out without Manti. If you go by position, please tell me who plays their position better than Manti plays linebacker.

+1. Also consider that a solid offensive player relies on a supporting cast to get it all done. It's hard to be a lights out QB without a good O-line & receivers and most RBs wo't do jack without good blocking. But a great defender does so much more on his own. In fact, top notch defensive talent usually shines more when they are picking up slack (luckily, Te'o has a great supporting cast and doesn't have to do it all himself). So if we're talking about great individual effort, great defensive players should be right up their with the offensive stars.

I can't understand why Collin Klein is getting so much attention this year. He's a solid player, but he has nothing close to Heisman performances, IMO.

Who is ? Not to much to choose from and until they get beat today they must talk about someone.

If K-State shuts down Geno does that make Manti the Heisman favorite? (repost from betting thread)

Knocked off a top 10 OU team and well on his way to beating WVU. He has KSU ranked #4. Before today, he had 7 passing TD to 2 Ints and 10 rushing TDs. 1 passing and 3 more rushing TDs at the time I made this post. Over 1,000 passing and 500 rushing yds before today. Klein definitely deserves to be near the top of the Heisman list right now.

I think Geno should have been dropped after last week, but this loss to K State should seal it. Hopefully Manti moves up to #3 or better.

IMO it should be:

1 Klein
2 Te'o
3 Barkely
4 Miller
5 Smith
6 McCarron

Honorable Mentions: Doege, Thomas, Manziel

Probably forgetting someone

The fact that he's even in the discussion this late in the season is incredible. Just another reason Manti is one of the top 5 (at least!) ND players of all time.

I agree partly. Because I love the kid. I hope he does win, even though I don't think he will. I am pulling for him. I also believe that he is truly one of the great players in ND football lore. I stop short of having a top five because there are so many great ones. He may indeed be, But, I find it difficult to forget the 7 that won the Heisman when considering the Top 5. Truthfully it doesn't matter. He is a tremendous athlete with a lot of heart, he is the whole package. I can say this; he has no reason to be embarrassed when discussing him with the all time greats at ND.
