Our defensive line was LIVING in the Michigan State backfield. As soon as the ball hit Maxwell's hands he was under pressure.

Also, Shembo shook off an early bone-head penalty and had the game of his life. Props to him.

We are tackling really well.

I noticed that as well; once hands were on someone, they were going down. Just a couple of over-pursuit plays, but man this D looked SEC-esque. (Probably had more to do with it being MSU, but still).

Just my observations. when we play someone better. How long do you wait til you replace him with someone that has more experienced ?? passing game still looks lathargic. Are we gonna just sit there ??

We just beat a TOP 10 team. Golson has a running ability that no one else does on the team and he can run on the throw. Sorry ND didnt win by more for you.

Tomm Rees would have been sacked 7 times tonight. Jesus, noone gave us a chance this week, and we dominate a top 10 team on the road. Golson is getting better every week, is anything ever enough for some people? Golson's athletic ability kept MSU's defense off balance all game, they could not pin their ears back and attack. Tommy Rees wouldve been eaten alive. No team is going to get after us like MSU's front 7. Golson is going to continue to grow and get better

I feel it would have been a wash. EG made scrambles TR could never dream of making. TR probably would have hit those two bombs for touchdowns though.

Think I would have chanced it for the 2 touchdowns .

Seriously? Rees has absolutely no track record of hitting deep balls (other than hoisting up wounded ducks and letting Mike Floyd go get it).

He's also never played in a big game without turning the ball over. He's also never scrambled for a touchdown.

Newsflash: We aren't going to play a better defense all year

I must be getting trolled right now...

It's great to be an Irish fan tonight! I'm so proud of our team! They played their hearts out and were relentless all night! Great win! I think we proved that we are relevant and we are a team to be taken seriously! We are ND and we are relevant! Go Irish!

May god bless Manti! He had a heck of a game with a heavy heart! My prayers go out to him!

Meh, Diaco has been there for 3 years. It's the players we now have. Sure, he's recruited some, but success breeds success. We keep this up, they will keep coming.

1. No turnovers
2. LBs finally able to defend the short passes
3. No turnovers
4. Punting for field position
5. No turnovers
6. O-line getting the job done on the running game in the 4th quarter
7. No turnovers
8. Freshman (Day, Shumate, Russell)
9. No turnovers
10. Coaching. Finally some play calling to deal with over aggressive pursuit. On the D side, just seemed like everyone was always in the right spot.

Did I mention no turnovers?

Yeah, serious. You must have missed the part where I said Rees couldn't scramble.

Barkley looks like he wants to cry in post game interview. Reps, Tree.

Herbie was almost speechless choking on ND praise.

Not true. He was effusive about how well they played ALL night long, particularly on Defense.

He just said that he had been as hard as anyone on ND but thought the team could be very good this year. Even mentioned how Kelly had reshaped the team image starting with the defense, even though his forte is the offense. Just like Lou did in 1986, he took over and got the ship righted by starting with the defense and tailoring the offense to his team's strengths.

Kelly seems to be following the same pattern, as well. I just cannot wait to see Lou and MM go at it tonight!! Talk about choking on any type of praise for ND!!

GO IRISH!!

Against strong running teams I feel good and hopefully by the time we play the better passing teams our secondary will be even better

Yes Ill admit the turnover problem . but thats it. Dont get me wrong. He had signs of looking great. My question is when we are behinde are we gonna let the kid finish? or put someone in thats been there. That has proven he CAN get the job done. I could have taken a nap in the third and most of the 4th Qtr.

It feels good to see this much pressure on a QB against a really good team. It is refreshing.

Didn't miss it, cause it's not there. I just said I thought he would have hit the two long throws.
Based on what?

Golson threw for more yards tonight that Tommy did against MSU last year. Would Rees have hit Goodman for the touchdown? Would Tommy have scrambled in for the TD? Oops, looks like we didn't score a touchdown tonight...

Sometimes you just need to shut the **** up.

There will be plenty of time for post game analysis. This is not the time. It was a great win.

Go Irish!

Rees can't hit long throws, thats why he is wearing a red hat. oh and he can't elude pressure. that throw to goody last week was a floater. fyi: yes it was complete and i did cheer.
