For the record, I was one of the "Schutt Idiots" and still am. I think Tommy will be a great defensive tackle, but that doesn't mean that I ever doubted Day.

I'm not sure that many, if any, of us Schutt sympathizers didn't want Sheldon... we wanted both!

Here is the point. Day is a DE. Not a DT. He is quicker than a hickup, faster than a New York second. He has outstanding lateral movement and real power off the ball. His use of his hands is more advanced and capable than with any recent recruit.

If Sheldon isn't a DT, then we really should have picked up a defensive tackle in the last class...no?

The thing that we don't know, and might never know, is if ND told Day they were only taking one DT. If they said that, and he was about to commit, how are you going to turn around and take the commitment of another DT? That's some Urban Meyer bullsh!t (he did that to Ian Williams - that's how we got him). Not saying it happened, but it happens all the time and it's very plausible in this case. In hindsight, it looks really bad of course b/c of all the drama of that class, but at the time, we were worried about not having enough spots. And if you only wanted one guy, you go with the guy you feel is best. In this case, it was Day.

I agree, having Schutt wouldn't suck, but I think Day is the better player...

Right. It seems to me that DT is an overlooked need in the class of 2013. We don't seem to be in on anybody. Maybe Augusta, but I don't know how strong his interest is.

You never can enough defensive lineman. If Schutt wants to come then take him. He is a guy that would seem to play strickly inside, where Day is versatile and can play both inside or out in this defense. Two different styles of defensive lineman that can both benefit the 3-4.

Just for the record, no one is claiming that Schutt is somehow coming here. He will undoubtedly be suiting up for Urban for the next four years.

Our loss, imo. Top 10 DT and he really wanted to come here.

Sheldon is totally boss though. I hope no one takes my thoughts as digs at Sheldon. I wouldn't trade him in for Schutt, I just wanted both of them.

Your right I don't know I was thinking he was a Penn St. kid. I do agree that I would've love to have them both, but the way they're raving about Day and the possibility of him playing this year as a freshman with the depth that we are building in the trenches speaks volumes of his potential. Damn I can't wait for September to get here!

Day really is huge for us. His versatility to slide inside is gonna prove to be invaluable! That said wish we could have gotten both, I'm just greedy when it comes to DL.

Every time I think of Day and what could be, I think of Trevor Laws.

Tommy who? Sheldon will be a force. Mark it.

Tell me, what true freshman in recent history could step in and play as solid as long as Sheldon did against Purdue. His hurry was awesome. It would be conflation to assume any comparison with Stephon, but Sheldon was a force before his time on Saturday, and it looks as if offensive lines will need to bring their A game evey week.

Really excited about Sheldon. He was playing better than Tuitt did as a Frosh last year which is really impressive. He does an outstanding job already not allowing the OL to lock their hands on him and gets a great push on his bull rush. It will be interesting to see if he gains any weight and moves to DT after this year.

Day came in very polished. He will be a good player. He doesn't have the upside of Tuitt though.

True but not many people have the upside Tuitt does. He might be one of the most athletically gifted big men in all of college football right now.

Hopefully Day continues to work his tail off this year. We are going to need him to replace old man Kap next season.

Remember the days when we had zero Dlinemen? Yeah, I do. I like the change.

Didn't Ethan Johnson and Kapron both start as freshman?? That's pretty sad...these guys right now are elite prospects but it's never good to have freshman playing on the Dline --- shows you are pretty thin and/or the upperclassman didn't develop to play up to standards.

If shembo could use his hands and shed through blockers like day we would be the best front 7 in the nation. Everyone compared Schutt to Zorich and I seen zero resemblance. Schutt plays slow off the ball and bad pad level. Day in contrast has some of the best hands I have seen.

We have the best front seven in the nation. Part of it is having day contribute like a seasoned vet-ter-en in his third game. Springman doesn't suck either. Kidding. Springman is scary in the middle!

I almost puked when I thought he tore his ACL for a bit there.
