What is the "uniform surprise"?

Green represents the Irish Republic, while Orange represents those in Ireland who were still loyal to England. That's why you'll always see green represent Ireland as its primary color and not orange. That's also why you should never wear orange to a St. Patrick's day parade. My friend wore and orange sweater last year and didn't hear the end of it haha.

I think BogTrotter just meant that whoever is creating the uniform should know this before they go too crazy with the orange.

Green from Patrick through Brendan and those of the Hy Many, to the Irish Republicans, Orange from William and his family, which does represents the Ulster loyalists, etc., but if you look at the flag, there is white in between. So more white, more green and less orage, because those people don't want to be represented withor catagorized as the Irish, anyway. Yes.

Good get BurningRiver. Unlike your name there is no big fukin "T" in the middle of Bogtrotter. It really is a modern compound Ainglish word.

I hope ND researches the history of the Irish flag before they plan a feature for their uniform, especially if they include much orange.

The problem is that the schools don't design the uniforms, some "light in their loafers" designer at Nike (the spawn of Satan) does.

As for that mich jersey, what else would expect? That thing will sell like hot cakes at Walmart.

Where did you get that from? Nike hasnt sponsored UM in years.
You would at least think the guy who spent the time to make that ugly thing up would research that.

the flag predates the Republic dude by like 30 years, no idea where you got your info from.

Green represents Gaelic culture and the followers of the Orange is for the House of Orange and the white for aspiring peace between both groups.

To make it simpler you could say
Green = Catholics
White = Peace
Orange = Church of Ireland

If those are the pants I am really worried that these could be gold jerseys. That would not be good

And, (****) the Hanoverians!

I don't agree that it is quite so religious as classist or political.

Dublin got into a teaching moment, and since the game is played in his home town, I thought I would add more words complements of our friends at Wikepedia. The other two thinks to note is the green is at the hoist, and it is or was the Rebel flag replacing O'Neil's green flag with a harp:

The national flag of Ireland (Irish: bratach na hÉireann) – frequently referred to as the Irish tricolour – is a vertical tricolour of green (at the hoist), white, and orange.

The proportions of the flag are 1:2 (that is to say that, as flown horizontally, the flag is half as high as it is wide). The Irish government has described the symbolism behind each colour as being that of green representing the Gaelic tradition of Ireland, orange representing the followers of William of Orange in Ireland, and white representing the aspiration for peace between them.

Presented as a gift in 1848 to Thomas Francis Meagher from a small group of French women sympathetic to the Irish cause, it was not until the Easter Rising of 1916, when it was raised above the General Post Office in Dublin, that the tricolour came to be regarded as the national flag. Meagher was the son of Newfoundland-born mayor of Waterford, Thomas Meagher Jr, however there are two theories on his inspiration for the flag; the similarly-coloured Newfoundland Tricolour credited in legend as having been created in 1843, though this seems unlikely given the actual known history surrounding the Newfoundland Tricolour, and the French Tricolour.

The flag was adopted in 1919 by the Irish Republic during its war of independence, and subsequently by the Irish Free State (1922–1937), later being given constitutional status under the 1937 Constitution of Ireland. The tricolour is used by nationalists on both sides of the border as the national flag of the whole island of Ireland since 1916. Thus it is flown by many nationalists in Northern Ireland as well as by the Gaelic Athletic Association.

My thought is we will wear our Navy Jersey with Orange/Green/White Letters (color of Ireland) against navy. With a Gold Helmet and Maybe and Orange/Green/White Shamrock. Just a guess and I think it would look alright

I think we can all agree that it won't be either of these (images found while doing a search for "Shamrock Series 2012 Uniforms). Internet's crazy; guess we'll just have to wait.

I asked the ND football twitter account when can we see the uniforms vs. Navy and they responded that they're exactly the same as last years. I then mentioned the white/orange socks and Irish flag cleats and they said “@125NDFB: @ndfbequipment apologies, I thought you were just referring to the jersey and pants, which haven't changed. No sarcasm at all.”
