I hope they just obliterate the program now. Not just a "X years" death penalty, but like completely and totally donezo. How could a community be so incredibly myopic and tone deaf?

This. To the Penn State faithful, the trustees are heroes. To the rest of the country, the delusional board is up there with the Paterno family in teaching the rest of us lessons on how to make a pile of sh!t smell even worse and stand even higher.

Penn State just had another 2013 defection: MD ATH Zach Bradshaw. Michigan St. will almost assuredly land him now.

We are PSU

Do the kids who are still currently on the team have a deadline as to when they can transfer out without penalty?

You sir were WRONG, he committed to UVA. Actually I just wanted an excuse to use this gif from yesterday.

And yes, he scored a 0.

Wow, I am surprised at both the commitment and the dive. Thought he would go to his father's alma mater after the decommit. Guess staying closer to home was more important. Mea culpa.

Never understood why mods everywhere were saying that (I know, easier said in hindsight). Always thought there was a stronger chance of Maryland or UVA getting him... looks like it was the Wahoos.

I hope that the BOT does file a suit in federal court. That way all those who refused to talk to the Freeh investigators will be placed under oath and forced to answer. That might include all the uppity ups at PU and 2nd mile, the state attorney at the time no charges were filed, who is now governor of the state, and many, if not most, of the BOT. They might even look into the mysterious disappearance of the prosecutor who was investigating this mess a few years ago.
And all those who are clamoring for "do process" will get it in spades. When they get real due process, they will regret it.

...and one should always expect due process...rather they want it or it is deemed publicly convenient really shouldn't matter.

Maybe someone else has a different legal opinion from my own, but it seems to me that the NCAA has little to worry about here. The NCAA acted on the belief that Erickson was acting on authority granted by the BoT. Even if he didn't have that authority, the NCAA reasonably believed he did under apparent authority in agency theory. If the BoT or players have a gripe, it is with Erickson, not the NCAA.

As far as Paterno goes, dead people can't be defamed--this is settled case law. And estates cannot sue for defamation on behalf of the decedent, which is what the family would seem to desire so they can continue to profit on the Joe Paterno name.

As for the recently announced player's appeal, they were not even "involved individuals" and have even less of a claim for standing than the BoT members or Paterno's family.

You seem to know alot about this...cool...my question...(all moral issues aside which address rather PSU should be doing any of this) Can't this be appealed / the NCAA be sued simply based on the NCAA's own conduct if PSU thinks it to be unjust/arbitrary/lacking support of precedent/prejudicial or in some wayout of line?

My opinion would be that PSU has waived this argument by signing the consent decree. Section II indicates that they accept they have violated the Bylaws and Constitutional requirements of being an NCAA institution. They also waived all rights to any further process that would otherwise be granted under the Bylaws, including appeal or judicial process.

Penn State conclusions - NCAA.com

It just seems to me that the only thing anyone could possibly argue is that Erickson overstepped his bounds as agent for the university, and based on statements from both Erickson and Peetz, I don't see that argument going too far.

This, and everybody from PSU needs to shut up because criminal charges are not a done deal yet, correct?

Dorian Johnson decommited today. Their recruiting class is falling apart. They've fallen about 20 ranks on Scout & Rivals.

I have a feeling their offense 3-4 years down the road will be Hackenberg feeding Breneman on nearly every play. Which might work considering that's what O'Brien did with the Pats.

I still dont think those two will be signing with PSU on NSD. Maybe Breneman because the injury might have scared some people away, but I personally think both will decommit eventually.

I don't see Brady and Belichick walking through the door anytime soon.

I'm not saying they'll be THAT good, just they may have a decent offense a couple of years down the road. They're still gonna be terrible either way.
