Tommy Rees and Carlo Calabrese arrested

I will more than likely ruffle some feathers but when you get as old as I you really don't care.
If you are happy for the arrest because you think it opens the door for the qb you support. Well, you must not have a lot of faith in your guy's talent. So maybe Brian Kelly shouldn't either. I agree, with some posters. It is a shame If he is guilty, he should be punished and I am sure he will be. But if some of you are celebrating a persons demise so that more games can be won this season you are a screwed up individual.

I am an old guy too. I am not happy to see anyone suffer the perils, so to speak, but I have come to one conclusion. There are several circumstances that effect these posts: some posters haven't a clue as to what they are saying so you cannot determine that they are that mean spirited; younger people who are used to texting and all the social media hoopla are worse and worse communicators than their parents and grandparents, (I lie somewhere in between) who were bad enough; and most people who post on sites like this have the passion and get real excited. Sometimes they say things that wouldn't even think of at another time.

Like yesterday. My daughter has this dog from hell, a puppy really. Luna is a boxer mix. Mixed with what else is the question. Anyway, Luna is convinced she is human, and she just gets things going. She runs the show and is incredibly fast. Well I came home yesterday to see her running through the house, coming toward me at top speed with a pair of underwear twisted around her snout and ears. As I walked forward I wondered what would happen, well at the last minute she veered to her left to go through a door opening into another room. Only thing is, someone shut the door. She hit it head on with a thump. Well she got up and looked at me in her most dignified manner and walked off. This is how I see posting on the internet in the first place . . .

A case in point: No one quarterback on our roster is remotely like Jamarcus Russell; and tallent over discipline? Can you say Denard Robinson? I want you to take a look at how often he makes the correct reads. He11, his two biggest wins beside ND last year, with OSU, the ball bounced off the receivers helmet, (in double coverage) into the hands of the wide open receiver; and VT, where he threw into double coverage so often the defenders got tangled up (more than once) and it resulted in a walk-in touchdown! There comes a point where you take talent, less major behavioral problems, and let it work it self out.

And Tommy was making all the right reads? Really? Sure...pre-snap he makes solid adjustments, but once the ball is snapped how many "good reads" does Tommy makes? Let's be real here...why was coach Kelly more red in the face this season than ever before? Probably because Tommy looked the part pre-snap, but made some of the WORST reads possible when the ball was in his hands.

We have a VERY small sample size to compare the three QBs because as a whole, we have really only see them play in two games that would count as a fair comparison. They all played in the Blue-Gold games the past two years, taking on the exact same competition:

Tommy (who you'd think understands the ND offense and defense like the back of his hand) was 7-14 against the exact defense he practices against every day. He threw 1 INT and 0 TDs. His reads were horrendous, and he did nothing to prove that he was better than the other two QBs in this race (who were facing this exact same competition in the exact same game). Oh and had 1 yd rushing.

Hendrix was mediocre going 4 of 9 with 1int and 1td. He made a terrible read on his int, which we cannot afford this season. He also rushed for 13 yards on 2 carries, which gives a little more dynamic to his play. Apparently his reads didn't look any worse than the "expert" Rees...

Then we have Golson. Playing against the same defense that Tommy and Andrew were playing against in the EXACT same game. 11 of 15, 120 yards, 2 TDS and 0INTs. 30 yards on the ground as well. I guess when you put all three guys in the same situation and let them battle it out you really see how bad Golson is with his reads

So we put all these guys in a scenario where they all play against the same defense with the same offensive weapons and one quarterback destroys the other two. We can talk about his mind not understanding the game, but in every single thing I have seen of EG, he is absolutely elite! His high school numbers were much better than any of these other guys, through 2 BG games he has been the best QB on the team. I would be willing to bet anything that Golson starts game one AND we don't see any "special packages"...the kid is the real deal. Jump on board the Golson train because we'll be riding it for the next few years

If Tommy starts in Dublin, we can be certain EG will get some snaps as well. Tommy may start in Dublin but I would be shocked if he starts in Soldier Field.

Kelly doesn't have any easy options, but here's what I think. He should suspend Tommy for the Navy game, either officially or unofficially. Give Golson 2 solid quarters to play and Hendrix the other 2. If they both shine, then whoever looked sharper is your starter. If one shines and the other screws the pooch, then you've got your starter and your #3 after Rees. If they both screw the pooch, then you start Rees the next week and tell them both "you haven't earned it yet, so work harder."

Kelly's not being paid as head coach to make easy sociological decisions. He MAY suspend Rees for some games but it won't be to "give himself an excuse" to play Golson or Hendricks. Assuming that he suspends Tommy for one or more games, that will be a "Tommy Rees" decision. If this were just some PR strategy type of affair, then Coach would likely not suspend him at all, because the ultimate PR gaff is losing games, and suspensions take away your flexibility and weapons. If Hendricks would "go Dayne" on Coach, and Golson got dinged or completely boggled, Coach would want Rees to game manage a win.

What timing of what release?

SI, ChiTrib, Etc all ran detailed articles on Rees' scheduled court appearance on the day it took place.

Feel free to post a link to the "release" you speak of.

Ok so it wasn't a "release," but he wasn't suppose to be in court until today. I would have ran down and pleaded guilty with the news that broke yesterday too.

Notre Dame's Rees pleads guilty to two charges - South Bend Tribune

According to a clerk in St. Joseph County's traffic and misdemeanor court, Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees arrived for his scheduled Tuesday court hearing a full 24 hours early.

No you wouldn't. You would have been too busy posting to think a day ahead.

Even if Rees was only following the play drawn up by his legal "coach", he showed up to play ahead of time, made a good read of the field, executed flawlessly, and made a humbling public statement.

He'll probably get chided here for not showing enough swagger.

Thanks for the SBT link.

Whoever Kelly starts I hope it is with a 1- QB system not this Golson for 2 quarters & Hendrix 2 quarters. I haven't heard the news about Golson being late for meetings until now...seems like the kid needs to mature. I hope he starts Hendrix, I think ND could've beaten Stanford last year if Hendrix started. Rees needs to be suspended for the year.

He was late once. Not on a regular basis

The rumors of his demise (maturity) are greatly exaggerated.

No, he was late more than once according to someone I know who knows the players, and maturity has definitely been a problem. And most of the team wants him to start, so they wouldn't be saying this out of spite. That one time was reported because it was the coach's convention (open practice) and BK had to explain to everyone why he was being held out of reps. Hell, check my Rick Neuheisal thread...I ran into him in the airport on our way back to L.A. after the clinic and he told me as much.

Hopefully he's already put those issues to bed, cause he'll be needed desperately this year.
