So on the flipside does it bother conservatives that the GOP consistently puts a black face on societies ills and uses racist imagery? Reagan gave us black welfare queens. Bush 1 Willie Horton. Dan Quayle rap music. The GOP in Orange County publishing photos of the first family as chimps. The Obama playing card portraying him as ape like. Anyhow, there seems to be a GOP racecard as well.. Kind of reaping what they have sown in that regard. For the record I do not believe all Republicans are racist. The party as a whole does however, seem to look the otherway when it comes to a lot of this dispicable stuff.

1. Reagan never said his Welfare queen was black. You assume that. Which actually makes the left, racist.

Here is the quote:

"She has eighty names, thirty addresses, twelve Social Security cards and is collecting veteran's benefits on four non-existing deceased husbands. And she is collecting Social Security on her cards. She's got Medicaid, getting food stamps, and she is collecting welfare under each of her names. Her tax-free cash income is over $150,000."

I fail to see where he identifies her as "black"?

-Willie Horton? Really?? A guy who committed robbery and murder? And Bush was simply brining up the furlough program and pointing out the obvious. Had nothing to do with color, until of course, Jesse Jackson got involved.

-As far as the Orange county thing, yeah, that was stupid. Dan Quayle was targeting Rap music not because of race, but because of it's link to violence. especially back in those days.

to further what pat said... the left is magically exempt from this?? How many times do minorities on the right have to be attacked by leadership on the left in simply despicable ways before anyone... anyone... on the left speaks up about it?? Denying Allen West his 'blackness' for coming to his own conclusions??... the racially angled attacks on Justice Thomas...??? Members of Congress stating that any African American who does not fully support the first black president is "an Uncle Tom suffering from Stockholm Syndrome" (Tell that to my proudly black brother in law who also supports the tea party) ... saying publicly that those who oppose Obama "want black people hanging from trees"... comments on the left about the president's lack of a "negro dialect" ... all of this is complete garbage and also racist in nature...

point is, this is in no way exclusive to either party... there are idiot morons on both sides

To tell the truth I had to do some googling to learn a bit more on a few of them. Obviously the last two that you list a very overt forms of racism and makes me sick that those people would do that. The Reagan welfare queens seemed to imply race by using an example of someone from the south side of Chicago which was not necessary and probably was calculated and would've been wrong if that was the case. The Willie Horton was a real life example that pertained to Dukakis. Would've been bad news for Dukakis even if Horton was white. Was their a white person that they could've used instead and was Horton used specifically because he was black, possibly. I'm not sure if anyone can speak definitively on this issue. The Dan Quayle/rap music one seems a bit of a stretch.

I think everyone concedes that their unfortunately is still racism in this world and their are many times the cries of racism are justified. What I think most people find troubling and frankly insulting is that is seems to happen very frequently these cries of racism are overused, especially as it relates to Obama's job approval and the approval of his policies, many of which I find troubling.

So I was just pointing out some examples off the top of my head. Again I'm not arguing about who does what. I am making the point that the GOP (since it cooked up the Southern Strategy back in the 70's) has consistently put a black face on societies ills. The mythical welfare queen just happened to be from Chicago's south side. Ok total coincidence I suppose? Why not West Virginia? Willie Horton, sure he was a bad man. He was also black. Quayle specifically singled out a black female rapper and a overwhelmingly black art form as destroying America or something equally stupid. Why not Vanilla Ice (he totally sucked)? Why not Hank Williams Jr.? He sings songs about doing coke and popping pills. Then there's the macaca quote from the other dude awhile back and the overtly racist examples pointed out earlier. Sure one isolated incident does not a trend make. There are however, all kinds of examples one can point to of the GOP engaging in race baiting, intentional or otherwise. Of course it does not excuse other forms of stupidity. I'm just curious why so many of the self righteous elements of the GOP tolerate and or encourage this stuff? Frankly I think all this along with Tea Party insanity has helped the GOP paint it's self into a corner.

Obama's game plan to win this year.

1. Subtly make issue of race and claim all Republicans are racist
2. Wait for "birthers" to bring up claim of Obama not being born in Hawaii and claim all Republicans are racist and crazy
3. Wait for media to bring up Muslim issue, claim O s a m a Bin L a d e n (can't believe that those two words were banned) victory and of course claim all Republicans are racist.
4. When asked about any policy issues, claim that you find that line of questioning racist.

Dude, google was not the source. It was the Wall Street Journal and a study by some guy from Harvard. Anyhow, the animosity directed at this particular President based solely on his ethnicity is pretty telling as well. Something like 1 in 6 Americans still believe he's Muslim. 41% of Republicans think he was born outside the US.

Rubio isn't going to make a difference with the Latino vote overall. Maybe the Cuban vote in Florida. Very different than the Latino populations in the South West, which you're probably aware of.

Miller - funny
Bluto - great points

Bluto - re: race- Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell & Condi Rice don't count b/c they weren't raised by single mothers and do some blow. Dems made Thomas out to be an over sexed black man to be feared. Condi single handedly neutralized Khadafi, that whole thing must give her the creeps.

I would trust any of those three alone in a room with either of my children. Can I say the same of Al Sharpton, Charlie Rangel, Louis Farakan or Jesse Jackson (ok probably Jackson)?

I'd love someone to find Biden's quote about Obama being clean cut and articulate.

Last I checked, Lincoln was Republican.

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Since we're on the topic of race the best episode I ever saw of Geraldo other than the time he had GG Allin as a guest was when he had Tom Metzger and this Black Nationalist from Detroit, both of whom were gearing up for the coming "race war". See everyone can agree on somethings some of the time. I'm pretty sure that was the episode where Geraldo got his nose broken. Haha. Is this off topic?

Thanks Rizzophil! I get in discussions like this all the time with my conservative friends. At the end of the day we drink a beer and have some laughs. Anyhow, found out one of my Mom's cousins from Chicago has a home in South Bend so me and my brothers are going to try to swing some tickets for a game this year. It'll be my first time seeing a game in ND stadium. Maybe I'll run into some of you all there. Go Irish!

Oh man...not sure I want to dive into those waters. People tend to get irrational and overly emotional with that subject.

Sadly, it's more like:

What if Wal-Mart forced CVS to sell guns to drug cartels, completely lost track of them, denied anything ever happened, then admitted it happened, but then refused to say anything about it to Congress, including who knew about the program.

And what if millions of Wal-Mart supporters showed up calling any inquiry into the progam a "partisan witch-hunt"?

For those that are making the ridiculous "Bush did this" comparisons (because that's what you've been trained, yes trained, to do on everything critical of Obama)
