Illinois fires Zook after seven seasons - NCAA Football - SI.com

Opened with 6 wins; closed with 6 losses. Got whipped by Minnesota 27-7. Zook's winning percentage at Illinois is 11th among the 13 coaches that coached more than one season.

Zook finished 34-51 at Illinois. He took the 2007 team to the Rose Bowl and lost to USC. Last season's squad beat Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

With six wins the Illini could still go to a bowl game. It would be their first back-to-back bowl appearances since 1991 and '92.

Zook came to Illinois in 2005 after being fired in his third season at Florida. He replaced Ron Turner, now an Indianapolis Colts assistant coach.

The 2007 season was Zook's high point at Illinois. The Illini were Big Ten runners-up and upset an undefeated Ohio State team in Columbus that was shooting for a perfect season and a national title.

But only two of Zook's Illinois teams finished with winning records, 2007's 9-4 squad and last year's 7-6 Texas Bowl team.

I don't mind that much. For being a UM fan, I find that he's generally here to talk football and not troll about UM beating ND.

I like his contribution. The scoreboards are annoying but he knows his spot pretty well here.

I wonder if Luke Fickell from Ohio State or Tom Bradley from Penn. State would be interested in this job? Both are coaching at their Alma mater, but both will probably be shown the door soon. I think it would be awesome to try and rebuild The Fightin Illini program. The have some good history with Red Grange the galloping ghost. What do you think?

I find the fact that they dropped 6 in a row after starting undefeated hillarious. Especially because the people that have given me the most **** about the irish when they lose are illini fans.
