BROOMS! 16 In A Row

BROOMS! 16 In A Row

German took over the MLB Lead with win #16.

Happ then won #10 and didn't give up a HR!

NY only had 7 hits today. Sanchez had 3 including an HR. Gives him 10 against Baltimore and joins Torres in double figures HRs against a single opponent in a season. Achieved one before by Gehrig and Ruth in '27 against the BoSox.

The BoSox knocked Cleveland out of 1st place in the Central while TB fell to SB. Rays now 10 behind.

The Opener Magic Went Poof!

The Opener Magic Went Poof!

Green's been magic but not tonight.

Loaded the bases before getting an out then gave up back to back HRs, the first one a grand slam.

Loaisiga, one of the long time IL NY pitchers, relieved and gave up a 2 run HR to the 3rd batter he faced.

Rough start, 7-0, Indians 6 hits, 3 HRs in half an inning.

NY got 3 singles in the bottom 1st, Urshela got the RBI. Gardner walked to load the bases but Torres missed an opportunity to half the deficit lining out.

Loaisiga settling down?

1-2-3 3rd.

He's thrown 56 pitches in 2.2 innings, 4 hits, 4 ER, O BBs, 4 Ks, 2 HRs.

With 56 pitches he's likely done.

I have thought of something the Yankees can do with Happ.

Have him throw a lot to Judge in practice, so Judge can get back into the swing of hitting a lot of home runs.

Tanaka wins #9, 3-2. Worked 6+, 83 pitches, 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 solo HRs.

Urshela, 3-4, .342 passing LaMahieu.

TB lost 2-0.

Solid day from Tanaka, not sure why Boone had him pitch into the 7th. He ended up taking him out with his shoulders slumped which was very predictable.

How many times has Boone been booted this year? Stop arguing balls and strikes.

And C.C., still on the IL, gets tossed too? I mean how the hell does that even happen?

CC off the IL and back in mid-season form, strikeouts and long balls. Gave up what seems to be the usual 5 runs. Bullpen didn't hold the line and the offense has a bunch of opportunities but came up short too many times. LaMahieu outhits Urshela for the higher BA.

Tampa wins.

Rays finally took the M's, 7-6 on a bases loaded wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th. Rays 9.5 behind NY who plays Oakland tonight and .002 points higher than Oakland for the 2nd wild card slot.

Rays travel to Baltimore for a series.

Rays win again. NY's losing streak reaches 4.

A Dodgers sweep could make it a race.

Despite the Yankees 4 game losing streak this series is getting ink as the World Series Preview.

A team struggling to score runs while the pitching staff gives them away.

Paxton (9-6, 4.53 ERA) v Ryu (12-3, 1.64 ERA). Not much of a matchup.

Ryu got knocked out in the 5th when the Yankees batted around, Gregorius Grand Slam doing most of the damage. Earlier Judge and Sanchez parked ball in the left center seats. Meanwhile Paxton's allowed 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 7.

7-1 NY in the 5th.

TB beat the O's earlier.

Gregorius slam off Ryu, Yankees hit 5 HRs, rout Dodgers 10-2
AP
LOS ANGELES (AP) Didi Gregorius hit a grand slam off All-Star Hyun-Jin Ryu and added a solo shot to help the Yankees set a club record for homers in a month, and New York routed the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 Friday night in a matchup of the two teams with the best records in baseball.

Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres also homered as the Yankees ended a four-game skid. They have a major league-leading 57 homers in August, their most in any month.

Starting on five days' rest, James Paxton (10-6) allowed two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings to win his fifth straight start. He struck out 11 - one off his season high - and walked none.

The teams' first meeting in three years had a postseason feel, even though neither club looked the part. The Yankees' pinstripes and Dodgers' blue and white uniforms were cast aside on Players' Weekend. The Yankees wore all black and the Dodgers donned all white with player-chosen nicknames on the back.

The sellout crowd of 53,775 saw a potential October preview between two franchises that used to battle in New York before the Dodgers moved West before the 1958 season. They've met 11 times in the World Series, with the Yankees winning eight titles.

After scoring just nine runs in dropping three straight at Oakland, the Yankees (84-46) cranked up their offense early. They led 2-0 in the third on the homers by Judge, who has gone deep to left field twice in four days after not pulling a homer previously this season, and Sanchez.

Ryu (12-4) opened the fifth by allowing consecutive singles to DJ LeMahieu and Judge. After Torres grounded out, Ryu intentionally walked Sanchez to load the bases.

That set up Gregorius, who launched a 90-mph fastball into the right field pavilion for his fifth career grand slam. Gio Urshela doubled to chase Ryu before Brett Gardner's RBI double off Adam Kolarek made it 7-1.

Ryu struggled through his second straight sub-par outing. The left-hander came in with baseball's best ERA of 1.64, but he gave up seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings, his shortest outing since June 28. He struck out seven and walked one.

Ryu was coming off a 4-3 loss at Atlanta in which he allowed all four Braves' runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Torres homered with two outs off Yimi Garcia in the sixth for an 8-1 lead.

Gregorius homered in the ninth.

The Dodgers' run of three straight wins and five victories in a row at home, including consecutive walk-off wins, came to an abrupt halt.

The Dodgers' runs came on A.J. Pollock's RBI single in the third and Kike Hernandez's RBI double in the seventh.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Yankees: 1B Luke Voit (sports hernia) was 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout in his first rehab game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Dodgers: RHP Ross Stripling (right biceps tendinitis) tossed 35 pitches in a bullpen session.

QUICKEST TO 100

Sanchez became the fastest catcher in major league history to 100 homers in his 355th career game. He surpassed Mike Piazza, who did it in 422 games with the Dodgers.

UP NEXT

Yankees: LHP CC Sabathia (5-7, 5.01 ERA) starts on five days' rest. He's failed to last at least five innings four times this season, including in three straight games for just the second time in his career.

Dodgers: RHP Tony Gonsolin (1-1, 3.00) makes his fourth career start against the Yankees.
