The night after the Mets stop the Yankees MLB HR Streak AND win streak, Gregorius and Urshela went deep back to back to back up German's job on the mound. Yanks win 5-1.

Meanwhile O's score 6 in the top of the night to beat Tampa and the BoSox also came in second.

Good night all around!

Nice, maybe they need to give him a few weeks off every couple months.

NY v TB Probable Pitchers

NY v TB Probable Pitchers

The only game where NY gets the ERA edge is CC v Snell. Nobody saw that preseason.

Per Bergen Record:

probable starting pitching matchups:

Thursday: LHP J.A. Happ (7-4, 5.23) vs. RHP Yonny Chirinos (7-4, 3.10)

Friday: RHP Masahiro Tanaka (5-5, 3.74) vs. LHP Brendan McKay (1-0, 0.00)

Saturday: LHP CC Sabathia (5-4, 4.04) vs. LHP Blake Snell (5-7, 4.87)

Sunday: LHP James Paxton (5-3, 4.09) vs. RHP Charlie Morton (9-2, 2.36)

Happ beat Chrinos but didn't get the win. Chapmen started the 9th with a 3-1 lead and blew it with control issues including 2 wild pitches. Rays scored twice to tie but left the winning run on 3rd. Yanks played small ball to load the bases on a walk and Gardner bunt than LeMahieu drove in 2 and Sanchez cleared the bases with a 3 run shot to take a 5 run lead. Rays made some noise in their half of the 10th but only scored once.

NY won 8-4 and opened 7.5 game lead. NY is 8-2 against the Rays this season.

Chapman got win #2 and BS #3 allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and a pair of walks. Cessna had trouble in the 10th and Hale bailed him out for the Save.

LeMahieu is 9-11 with the based loaded with 20 RBIs ... and he's the lead off hitter. He's hitting .480 with RISP.

Yanks have 142 HRs. Stanton and Judge have 7.

Thursday night NY scored 5 in the 10th for the win. Friday they scored 4 in the 11th for the win. Judge hit his second HR of the game to open the 11th and Gardener topped it off with a 3 run HR.

NY has 8.5 game lead over the Rays, 10 in the Loss Column.

Hicks tied it at 3 in the 9th with an HR but it didn't get to extra innings this time.

Rays hit a 2 out HR off Green for the 4-3 win.

CC gave up 3 runs over 7 innings.

No late innings dramatics. Rays score 2 in the 1st off of Paxton 6.0 IP, 2 ER, 11 SO, 99 P.

Morton gave one back in the 2nd on Gardner's 15th HR but closed out the scoring thereafter.

Final TB 2 NY 1

LaMahieu and Torres got the day off which took a ton of offense off the field. Combined they average .315, and total 201 Hits, 31 HRs, 123 Runs, and 113 RBIs

German wins 11th, 4-0, scattering 3 hits over 6 innings whiffing 7 walking none on 78 pitches. Kahnle and Green complete the shutout. LeMahieu drove in the only run needed with a RBI groundout. Later in the inning Encarnation cleared the bases with a double.

Rays maintain the pace eviscerating the Os 16-4 behind 20 hits.

BoSox lead Dodgers 8-1 in the 9th.

Voit expected back Saturday.

I need one starting pitcher to get his shit together, and just a couple bullpen guys who can get outs.

if memory serves me correct we've only beat the empire once this year...ouch.

Luckily, baseball is a marathon...let's see how this plays out. 9 back as of 7/12.

NY 9th inning rally falls short. Jays win 2-1. Happ loser, Judge 4-5.

TB also loses 2-1. Status quo.

In the meantime, the rival plays baseball's best team tonight. I've never been more interested in a Chris Sale start in my life.

96 is the number. Watch out if the gun hits 96.

Looks like you've got your starter. NY Post story has Orioles Cashner 9-3, 3.83 ERA 1.19 Whip, traded to the Sox. Also mentions this allows Evoldi to move to the bullpen to put some fingers in the dike.

NY leads the series 5-1 so far. Still a dozen or so to play lots of time.

Post also notes:

Cashner is 2-5 against the Yankees with a 3.96 ERA in 10 career starts.

No, the starter I'm thinking of is getting roughed up again tonight.

Your pitching problems will show their head too soon. Chapman, however, is the difference.

Edit: Just saw the trade...lets play some ball. I'll take what we can get

3.96 isn't that bad in the AL East. It's not good either, but we need innings as Sale needs a neck brace due to whip-lash.

Bad, Bad contract we have on our hands with Sale. He's went to the shitter faster than any other pitcher I can remember of late.

Anybody want a lefty with a hefty price tag who can't get anyone out?

Didn't realize Sale hasn't won at home in over a year going 0-3 in 13 regular-season starts in Boston since his last home win July 11, 2018.

Wow.

Sale: “I’ve got no other excuses. I’m just not getting it done. There’s no other way to paint it. No other way to put it. I’ve got nobody else to blame.”

Sigh...

Tanaka gave up 2 solo HRs but only allowed 2 other hits in 4-2 win. Struck out 6 walked none. Trachoma not hit first NY HR in 3 games.

TB kept pace.

Sox and LA tonight.

NJ.com notes:

For the weekend, Yankees starters allowed just four runs over 18 1/3 innings for a 1.96 ERA. Since returning from London, Yankees starters have mostly tremendous pitching to a 2.62 ERA over nine games.

Tampa Bay @ Yankees 7:05 pm B. Snell (5-7, 4.70 ERA) J. Paxton (5-4, 4.01 ERA)

HTML:
Snell W L ERA BA SLG INN H R ER HR
2018 21 5 1.89 .178 .300 180.2 112	41 38 16
2019 5 7 4.70 .251 .410 90.0 85 49 47 13

Like Sale, Snell is having some troubles but Snell's is readily apparent. His ERA's jumped from 1.89 to 4.70, his opponent's BA has gone from .178 (send them back to the minor's) to .251 (about MLB average), slugging has jumped from .300 to .410. He's thrown half the innings he put up last year but already has given up 9 more ER than he did all last season. He's given up 85 hits in half a season versus 112 last season ... and he's only 3 short of last year's HR total, 13 v 16. On the other hand, Snell is K:BB ratio is about the same as last year.

Snell's still throwing strikes ... but they're hitting more of them for base hits.

Sounds like some catcher I never heard of had a career day for the ages and the Yankees should have stuck with Green for the 9th.
